Low resolution texture pack?

In Unreal Tournament 3 they made some really low quality textures to reduce frame rate lag. I know the m0res config and chris config help a lot. Makes even the most got awful integrated laptop video cards run TF2.

But like I was saying UT3 has low resolution textures that sometimes not always increases FPS, but it this a viable option? I mean take it back and re use the old TFC or Quake textures and make TF2 look like a complete crappy graphically inclined child?

If this has been before I am sorry, but please do link it.

texture resolution is one of the least things to worry about with source engine

Looking for something like this? As you say, it probably doesn't help performance. His link is in the description.

Whitewalling makes the game much easier. Would destroy demos hiding in the bush at badlands choke, let alone sticky traps that aren't as noticeable. Also probably won't do much like #2 said texture memory isn't much of a bottleneck in TF2.

No, sv_pure 2 means that no custom textures / models are loaded.

Alrighty then, well thanks for the help. Thought it might have been a lot of help for those with bad frame rates.

Most of TF2's performance issues come from the entity system, and bad map optimization (only on certain ones; the three big granlands maps don't have problems) from what I remember.

type in the command mat_showlowresimages 1 into your config, it should make everything very blocky but it may increase your fps, literally be prepared though everything is minecraft literally.

Yeah the command that makes things look blocky in Chris' Maxframes is

mat_filtertextures 0

disabling texture filtering doesn't help with your FPS unless you have the world's worst integrated graphics chip that doesn't even support most of the shaders or particle effects that TF2 uses.

I think we should make a petition (or something along those lines) to valve to optimize their game

I swear the game runs worse on dx8 with every patch. I have an old system and I switched to dx98 to take some screenshots with a "hi quality" config and was surprised to find it ran at 300+ fps... what the hell?

does this sv_pure 2 make it look like carpet's thing? (if you know who carpet is)

First off, don't bump old threads unless you have something really on-topic that brings new information to discussion.

Second, no. sv_pure is a server cvar that allows the server to restrict what custom stuff clients can load. 0 means anything works, custom textures, models, sounds, etc. 1 means that the server can choose what kinds of custom stuff can be loaded (skins/models/textures). 2 means only default game materials are allowed.

The reason carpet's videos look the way they do is because of an exploit with Nvidia graphic cards, where you can use game-by-game profiles to change graphics settings on a really low level. What some people (including carpet) do is set the LOD bias to 15, meaning that the game uses the lowest possible detail textures and models, simulating the ingame cvar mat_picmip 15, which is a cheat command.

Needless to say, the GPU hack isn't ESEA legal, though other leagues don't stop you from doing it. If you're looking for a guide on how to do, I'm sure there's one floating around.
