I think the 2 worst mistakes beginners make are:

#1 - Getting overwhelmed with information about nutrition or exercise routines/machines they should buy. Most times these things are a major turnoff to a typical person who is just trying to get started. You look at all this information and preparation and you instantly think of all the work ahead and it can turn people off very quickly. Just think about starting slowly and gradually increasing your working and fine tuning your nutrition as you progress. These things cannot happen in the first week.

#2 - Trying to do fitness routines such as DVD's on the first day, when the body is not ready to do them at that moment For a beginner, there is no better way to get prepared for a regular routine schedule than by starting the first 2 weeks doing nothing but resistance workouts. What I mean by that is using your own bodyweight only. No weights, no Kettlebells, etc. Pushups, situps, planks, etc. The first 1 to 2 weeks should be about preparing your body to jump into a weekly routine.

The last thing I'll add without sounding too boring is that I believe working out should not be a part-time thing. It should be a lifestyle change as well. With any change like that, you need to commit to it and stick to the commitment. Being motivated to workout is all mental. If you REALLY want results, you need to push yourself mentally. The mind will make the body work, trust me. It all starts in your head.

We're trying to keep it simple. Stick to "Starting Strength," cut out fries (hash browns count) and add lots of whey
