#7 Movember in Off Topic
clorgYo is that ur sister? ;)

I wish I could grow a beard, but I still need to hit puberty first.

I consciously put that pic up in hopes that nerds would upfrag my sister.

PS: Hi clorg!

#1 Movember in Off Topic

To raise money for prostate cancer research, I shaved my beard for the first time in four years, and will now grow out a mustache for the rest of November. It's through a website called Movember and my profile is right here. Whether or not you donate to the cause, you can still see daily pictures of my mustache growing. FOR FREE! Wow, what a deal.

For comparison, here is bearded me c. last night:

(oh so handsome!)

And here's beardless me c. right now:

(I am once again a child)

I used to be a forever shitty Medic on a bottom tier Open team, so I figured that my name still has some clout on the TF2 boards. Thanks for your time, and may the Spaghetti Monster bless you all.
EDIT: formatting.

#12 Windows 8.1 in Off Topic
obe_However in your case (upgrading from 7 to 8.1) I have to agree with marquee. Windows 8 has really small improvements in performance and stuff but it probably isn't worth an upgrade.ArryWindows 8.1 will give you the ability to boot straight into desktop mode and add the start menu button back to the taskbar. It also adds some customization options to the tiled start screen UI. There aren't many differences between 8 and 8.1, but the tweaks are enough to improve user experience without having to use third party mods. Hopefully it'll be less buggy.

Honestly, I'm still a fan of good ol' 7.

Thanks everyone for the input, and thanks to the quotes for the opinions. If I can reinstall Win 7 without having to pay, I'll probably do that. Will update when I find out what my OEM installed Win 7 license includes.

#1 Windows 8.1 in Off Topic

I'm thinking about upgrading my laptop from Windows 7 to 8.1. Does anyone have any experience with it, or thoughts on it?

My laptop can handle light gaming (TF2, DA2 or Skyrim on Low), but something is wrong with the Windows install; it spends 5+ minutes on the black screen with the Windows logo. I have an Ubuntu dual boot and that works just fine, so I don't think it's the hardware. I mostly use it for web browsing, movies, word processing and some gaming. Will Windows 8.1 in desktop mode hinder any of those activities, or will not paying to reinstall Windows 7 be a better option?

#33 Earbuds? in Off Topic

I know that my current device favors the right side output, but I'm not sure about past devices, or which earbud dies first. Wax buildup happens, and I try to stay on top of it; should I clean anything else?

This probably stems from poor handling, I tend to throw them in my pocket and forget about them, but I like to blame this on my manly cauliflower ears... because I'm a big strong man.

#30 Earbuds? in Off Topic

Every pair of earbuds that I buy dies on me <6 months. One ear gets a little quieter for 2-3 weeks, then dies completely. This has happened to multiple Sennheiser products as well as competing brands that I can't think of right now.

Aside from sending me to some nerd dungeon forum with a 15 page "Sticky: EARBUD FAQ" thread, does anyone have suggestions/advice for what's going on here?

#64 Weight training for my GF? in Off Topic
SpaceCadetI think the 2 worst mistakes beginners make are:

#1 - Getting overwhelmed with information about nutrition

We're trying to keep it simple. Stick to "Starting Strength," cut out fries (hash browns count) and add lots of whey

Goat_keep up with those updates on your workouts, it'll help you stay more on track with what you are doing.
Oh and Google Ads / NSA is watching you o_o

#57 Weight training for my GF? in Off Topic

1Rep Max Update:

We just did 1RM for Squat and bench after a little more than a month. She put up 125 squat and 95 bench and is feeling pretty good about the training. She sees marked improvement and feels confident in her strength. However, she still doesn't do a very good job watching the calorie intake.

We've talked about cutting down on the fries, pastas etc., but she apparently has poor impulse control and I don't want to boss her around. If we go out to eat, I'll substitute in a side salad, and she'll get the fries and a side of bread. I coach kids and high school wrestling, so I'm used to being able to push a little and get a response, but I'm hesitant to "get tough" on my own girlfriend. My worry that I'll make her "feel fat," which will make her pouty and possibly eat more junk food out of resentment, for comfort whatever.

Thanks for all of the advice, I'll update with more 1RMs as they come if you guys have any interest.
