The sponsorship thing is interesting, but it seems kind of pointless. If lotus actually paid for servers and mumble, it would be much better for branding (and would cost them very little).

One thing Shwan pointed out in the Vector interview is that you have to remember what value you give to the sponsor. In the case of bpm, it's very little, since most people watching them will already know of Lotus, skial, etc. However, and this was said in the ugc thread, even if 1% of the people on Lotus check out the match, it's still a positive number. So, the sponorship essentially is the two parties advertising for each other, which will hopefully help comp tf2.

It's more about getting publicity for the game. If we get some of the people that play on Lotus servers to tune in, we're increasing our viewers. Some of those will even try to get into it themselves(HL or 6s). It's not about what lotus can provide for us.

My point was that Lotus would get better advertisement through providing servers. If Lotus shows that they care about comp tf2, you can expect attitudes amongst competitive players to change towards lotus servers. And with the competitive community having more presence than pretty much any other tf2 community, you can imagine the influence they can have.

Of course, their current level of commitment cant really hurt them. If this test run goes okay, they might consider more serious sponsorship in the future.

Sure lotus clan could get better advertisement but you should probably tell that to them.

Also most teams already have servers/mumbles so its not really something that's important to either party.
