The Theorists add lethality with leth and get ready to challenge Prem

The Theorists have earned their ETF2L Premiership spot thanks to their triumph in Division 1, which means that they are the first top-level team since Ora Elektro in Season 29 that’s made up of complete newcomers to the top flight. Having recently parted ways with Collaide, the team then picked up leth to help them in this new, challenging season.

While The Theorists were only founded last season, they were already acquaintances before, some of them winning Mid in Season 29 with #BIGBOYSEASON or playing in sister teams hasta la vista and hasta la feasta in Divisions 1 and 2 respectively during Season 30. Regardless, they had a very strong showing in Division 1 last season, only losing one map during the entire season. Their eagerness to improve, as well as the fact that they are used to playing together, could make them very dangerous opponents to face for more recently formed teams.

Team leader mak was able to explain the reasons behind the leth pick-up, as well as detailing his expectations for next season:

I guess I'll talk about roster changes since it seems the most relevant. After winning div1 we had a very rough offseason, constantly losing scrims and gaining nothing out of it. To skip over any stupid details that would only feed into drama, Collaide decided he had enough and left the roster. This left us with a few weeks to scramble for a soldier at a time when most people trialing for prem teams had joined a roster. Leth reached out to us and we thought we'd try him as he seemed the best option available and proved to be a very worthy fit for the team on roamer. Team morale is high again and our scrim results are picking up and matching our form from last season with the change, and Leth brings a lot we were missing on the roamer role. With the roster and team situation stabilizing, we're looking to put in a solid performance this season, aiming for the lower playoffs spots or failing that, a 5th/6th place finish. The team is hopefully attending Copenhagen LAN in it's current form, too.

Aph and YeeHaw are the scout pair, and are well-known by DM servers regulars. The rest of the combo is made up of Jordy, mak and Doughy, the latter known for his unorthodox style of maincalling. Regardless, they are all very solid, able to both play as a unit and to quickly overwhelm their opponents. Last but not least, leth has been hired to fill the roamer role. Funnily enough, leth was a part of ame ame ame, the only team that managed to take a map off The Theorists last season, before ultimately collapsing after they broke the hijacking rule and got a default loss in the playoffs as a result. Still, leth has a fair share of Division 1 experience, already finishing second in Season 30 as well as getting a sniff of Prem with two foreigners up front in the Premiership Qualifiers for Season 31.

New recruit leth also offered his thoughts about next season in a clear way that did not contain any shibboleth:

I am excited to play my first season of prem and i am mainly looking forward to getting experience playing against the top players and improving as much as possible.

Hoping for a theoretically good season, The Theorists are:

  • Scout: YeeHaw
  • Scout: aph
  • Roamer: leth
  • Pocket: Jordy
  • Demoman: mak
  • Medic: Doughy

"Alright, we've reviewed your application."

The new guy sitting at the desk looked up to see the lead editor, followed by other writers within the department, approach with a wide smile on their face, and two folders in their hand. The new guy could make out one, which was the article that they'd had written for the application. The other dossier, they didn't recognize.

"This is written fairly well and it gets the job done," the lead editor continued, opening the folder containing the new guy's article and looking over it again. The lead editor met their gaze enthusiastically. "It was also done in a timely manner shortly after we gave you the prompt, which is - honestly - miraculous around these parts. There's just one more thing we need from you before we decide if you've got the job."

Then, the lead editor suddenly slaps down the other unrecognizable folder in front of the new guy, causing them to recoil back in their chair. Four pictures slide out of the dossier onto the desk, and the lead editor bends forward, their expression sharp and their voice gravely serious. "Make the article title include all of these things," the lead editor says.

The new guy sits back up hesitantly, before their eyes focus on the photos scattered on the desk. Their eyebrows furrow in confusion. There are two player profile shots of the players that the new guy wrote about. However, there's a torn piece of a map that has Iceland on it, and a zoo brochure of a lion in a cage.

The new guy's expression is nothing more than bewildered as they look up at the lead editor. The lead editor and the other writers are completely focused on the new guy, not breaking their intimidating gaze away.

Taking a deep breath in, the new guy leans forward to look at the four things. Their perplexed eyes go back and forth constantly from the two players to the map to the brochure. They mutter under their breath for each thing they see. The two players' names. The lion in the cage. The map of Iceland. Players' names. Cage. Iceland. Players' names, cage -

The new guy's eyes suddenly widen, and his mouth stops muttering. Then, the new guy looks up towards the editor and the writers, and speaks:

"Se7en release Thaigrr back into the wild, breaks the ice with Hafficool."

The writers silently exchange looks with each other. The lead editor straightens back up to also convene in glances with their fellow writers. The new guy trembles with nervousness, but courage and confidence glint in their determined eyes.

Finally, the writers all turn back towards the new guy, and the lead editor's grin from earlier returns.

It's a shame but its great that a replacement was found. I knew the team was having some problems when I was asked to trial.

I felt bad but had to decline because i'm nowhere near good enough but i'm relieved they found someone who isn't me.

The only main reason my style of maincalling is "unorthodox" is because noone listens.
