i run tf2 at my native resolution, but when alt tabbing in and out I get a black screen for ~10-15 seconds and it sometimes crashes. is there any way to solve this without playing in windowed? i dont want the fps drops that come with windowed. :/

Do you have a dxlevel setting in your launch options?

take it out of your launch settings after you run the game once, never leave it in there

If just removing that from your launch options doesn't work (TF2 saves the dxlevel, the launch option changes the settings to the presets each run), use steam overlay or get a better PC. I'm guessing if you won't use windowed mode, you won't use dx9.
