Zanei have cystic fibrosis and my life expectancy is 27 and im 19 and i dont see a point in doing further education besides for self improvement when most of my interests would be 4 to 6 years of study and i would be unable to work effectively by the time i can fully finish it

dont let a life expectancy rule you. you cannot plan out your life based on an idea of when you may die. not to sound morbid but you could very well die in a freak accident before you turn 27- anyone can at any time. i say that because its like, why fear death, yknow? what do you have to lose except for all the potential experiences and enjoyment you are missing out on by fearing some 'death sentence' of a life expectancy. and there is a very good chance you will live longer than 27, as said above science and medicine is always advancing. doctors dont know things for certain when they tell you what your expectancy is, its just a guess. if you dont think further education is worth it i dont blame you, but you shouldnt rob yourself of a good career. what happens if you end up living into your 30s and you never started pursuing your education because you thought you would die early? what im getting at is dont let the number 27 stop you from doing what you want, because its just a number, a concept in your head, and it has nothing to do with all of the things that you will find worthwhile.

Geel9fade-are you legitimately saying that hillary is a better option than trump?

or gary johnson? or jill stein?

you cannot legitimately convince me that any of those would be better than trump, especially taking into account hillary's corruption and past, gary johnson's support of the TPP, and the fact that jill stein is straight up nuts

lol dude

you can point out how stupid the conservative platform is without promoting hillary

that said Trump would be worse than Hillary, but Hillary is also a godawful option for the presidency. I'm just not voting. Fuck it.

instead of not voting, consider supporting a third party! while they may not win this election cycle, they will get equal funding in the next cycle if they receive 5% of the vote!

i cant get better at tf2 no matter how hard i work and i feel like im even getting worse. i have a spot on a plat highlander team but feel like i dont deserve it and keep seeing myself drop further out of the skill level i used to be at.

i get good grades in school but could be working a lot harder, and it makes me mad at myself that im not doing more, but when i do i just do worse and it gets hard to justify.

i feel like im losing friends irl and even when hanging out with people i feel like im on the outside, trying to be with them instead of them wanting to be with me.

im becoming a worse person because of tf2 and while i am actively trying to stop i always end up thinking that the horrible person that comes up every so often is who i really am which makes me feel worse.

e: oh ya im also a completely uninteresting person

not to egg on the political discussion but i just want to say that not voting is probably the worst thing you can do. yeah hillary and trump are both stupid choices but not voting is like saying "i dont care which one of them wins". if you really think neither of them should win, then vote against them, and vote third party. even if third party is seemingly pointless, at least you are saying "i think somebody that isnt hillary or trump should be president", and that is a lot better than "sure let one of those two fuckheads win". hell, even write in your vote for mickey mouse, he gets plenty of votes every election.

i mean usually I joke around saying tf2 > life, but im just joking. you should prioritize your life choices over a cartoon shooter from 2007 on the source engine

Not voting is stupid but if the majority in your election area has voted for the opposition you're better off staying home. Also your vote doesn't have a large impact on the outcome of the election. It's the electoral college who decides who becomes president. You're simply telling them who you want them to vote for. Also the electoral college doesn't have to vote for who the people they're representing want them to. They can vote for whoever technically. And this has happened before but hasn't made a specific impact on the outcome on the election.

CGP Grey explains this way better than me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUS9mM8Xbbw

wjust started working again like a month ago and management treats me like im subhuman. they always whistle at me and say one word commands like "come" or "eat" while pointing towards the breakfast room like im a dog.. (i dont think i ever heard them call me by my name when i say their's all the time)

everytime i ask them something they pause for a good 10 sec and just give me a disgusted look. there were some lowkey racism here and there but i didnt really want to overreact. they make me buy them coffee out of my own pocket even though i receive less than minimum wage (late pay cheque by a week). when i asked them for my pay stub, they hide from me the entire week

stuff like this really wears down my confidence about myself as a human being.my coworkers and customers on the other hand have been very pleasant and i get along with them really well

sorry for the rant i usually dont get stuff like this off my chest that often. i have that problem where i just hold stuff in

whoa cmon, this whole thread is here for getting stuff of your chest, no need to apologize. im glad you are taking part. as for your situation, if you havent already started looking elsewhere for work, do that. minimum wage is bullshit and there are jobs out there that are entry level that pay more than minimum wage. where i live, minimum wage is a little under $9/hr and i know of a few places with entry level positions paying $11/hr. you have to look around more. think about what is nearby and apply to everything. craigslist is also great for finding work, you just have to go thru about 10 pages of ads but it is well worth it. the job i have now doing construction was found on craigslist, as was my previous job working on a farm.

charisfuspeaking from experience, getting out more helps in general. people irl (at least every state ive been to) are generally pretty nice and welcoming if you give off positive vibes. learning how to talk to people respectfully and without memes is one of the best skills you can learn. learn to talk to people in a way that is respectful, not awkward, and makes them feel good; people love it when you kiss their ass, whether they know it or not. every person who is good at socializing was once shit at socializing, nobody is born with it, thats why people say 'fake it till you make it'. exist in an uncomfortuable situation until it becomes your comfort zone. don't be afraid to get out there and feel awkward and out of place.

when i was in highschool i was a prisoner of my own thoughts. i always assumed people thought the worst of me. do you ever wonder if your friends don't actually enjoy your presence, but tolerate it? you can't allow yourself to tell yourself what is reality and what isn't. you can't hold court in your head, assuming what people are thinking about you is always true, trying to read their alterior motives. the reality is, most people are often thinking about themselves, with their own worries, problems and insecurities. everyone's life is a movie to them, and the rest of us are supporting actors. everyone has value to this earth, and we're all here for a reason, so be nicer to yourself in general.

i wanted to highlight what you said because it is powerful and applicable to a lot of people here, and i can vouch for what you are saying. if anyone is self conscious, feels awkward, doesnt know how to socialize, please read and let these words sink in for a while. getting outside regularly and socializing with strangers is healthy, and its going to help you a lot to have those kinds of social skills/comfortable with unknowns as you age.

I know this thread has been pretty much about people struggling with some part of their life (or just the whole thing), but ILLEGALELEPHANTGUN said it was for pretty much any feeling you wanna get out so I just wanna say that I was super nervous about starting college but it has honestly been awesome. I'm really enjoying myself and I'm happy with life. The few months before I had been doubting a lot of stuff about me and in my life but I feel like I'm figuring myself out more and becoming much more comfortable with myself and the people around me. Best of luck to everyone else out there!

loocorijnaGeel9fade-are you legitimately saying that hillary is a better option than trump?

or gary johnson? or jill stein?

you cannot legitimately convince me that any of those would be better than trump, especially taking into account hillary's corruption and past, gary johnson's support of the TPP, and the fact that jill stein is straight up nuts

lol dude

you can point out how stupid the conservative platform is without promoting hillary

that said Trump would be worse than Hillary, but Hillary is also a godawful option for the presidency. I'm just not voting. Fuck it.

the problem is neither of the main third parties deserve my vote either. Gary Johnson is for privatizing way too many things, and Jill Stein has a dubious record regarding vaccinations.

Jill Stein is completely in support of vaccinations. the entire idea that she was anti-vax came from people who misconstrued something she said about keeping big pharma away from regulatory agencies.

instead of not voting, consider supporting a third party! while they may not win this election cycle, they will get equal funding in the next cycle if they receive 5% of the vote!
the problem is neither of the main third parties deserve my vote either.

That's definitely encouraging. Can you provide me with a clear, concise list of her major policies and what she wants to do as president?
loocorijnaGeel9loocorijnaGeel9loocorijnaGeel9fade-are you legitimately saying that hillary is a better option than trump?

or gary johnson? or jill stein?

you cannot legitimately convince me that any of those would be better than trump, especially taking into account hillary's corruption and past, gary johnson's support of the TPP, and the fact that jill stein is straight up nuts

lol dude

I just want to share my gratitude towards teamfortress.tv, in its entirety.

Chiefly I'm thankful for this space to experience and explore competitive TF2 as a whole; most of my friends have long moved on from this game and it's comforting to be a part--albeit a small, relatively unvocal part--of such a unique, spirited and largely accepting community.

But there's another, stranger reason I'm thankful to have found tftv.

This past quarter I took a notoriously difficult argumentative writing class that culminated in a twelve page research paper. To some of you that may not seem like too much trouble, but for a first time researcher like myself, it seemed insurmountable. We were allowed to write on any subject that interested us, and I chose to research how interaction on the internet can create conformity in the thoughts and ideas expressed by users online. I used this thread as a primary source to demonstrate how upvotes and downvotes--I mean upfrags and downfrags--can shape the course of an online conversation. When I got my grades at the beginning of this summer, I was surprised to see I was one of only three people to pass the class with an A.

So I just wanted to express my thanks to all of you tftv users: every shitposter, pro player, lurker, memer, caster, nerdstar pursuer, and community figure. I love all of you and I'm proud to be a part of this community.

honestly if youre against nuclear power im going to assume youre grossly uninformed. the only real downside to nuclear power atm is what to do with the waste it produces

Technically it's not renewable, though the renewable energy sources we currently have aren't really viable and nuclear is much better than our current dependence on oil. However there is technology for solar energy currently under development which could turn into a viable large scale energy source, at the same time there are completely renewable forms of nuclear power. I assume that the renewable nuclear power generators lost interest because the others are more profitable.

TommyI played too much tf2 in my youth (12-14) so now I have poor social skills

Ok i know this sounds crazy but I learned most of my social skills from watching tv shows. It's also a great conversation starter, and im not talking anime or some shit. Watch tv shows that are popular among people your age, its a great way to connect with somebody and watching people have conversations will help you have conversations.

JJDoreI know this thread has been pretty much about people struggling with some part of their life (or just the whole thing), but ILLEGALELEPHANTGUN said it was for pretty much any feeling you wanna get out so I just wanna say that I was super nervous about starting college but it has honestly been awesome. I'm really enjoying myself and I'm happy with life. The few months before I had been doubting a lot of stuff about me and in my life but I feel like I'm figuring myself out more and becoming much more comfortable with myself and the people around me. Best of luck to everyone else out there!

glad to hear! not every post has to be super dark or trauma filled. before i went away to university i was anxious as a mofo, but upon arrival i had a total 180 on that feeling. i loved my time spent dorming, made a lot of cool friends, and got to try out a lot of different clubs/hobbies i might not have thought about at home. that being said, i probably wouldnt dorm again. super expensive, the food at home is 100x better than on campus, and i was taking the train home every weekend to be with my girlfriend, so that was costly in itself. a great experience, nonetheless. definitely happy i got to do it though.

@ political discussion; i deem it okay because political ideas are a touchy subject and not easily discussed, theres a lot of tiptoeing around issues and it almost always turns into a full on debate. that being said i find it appropriate to open up about your political stances and engage in conversation, but please remember to keep it civil here. theres nothing productive about talking down to people because your opinions differ. and as for politics in general, i dont think there is ever going to be one right answer. politics will always have to change and adapt to the times. i try to keep my head out of politics though so i might just be talking out my ass.

I was going to start out in open this next season, but apparently "video games will destroy my grades" even though I've already been doing well in school and getting maybe 1 or 2 B's at most a semester. And now I probably won't be able to play tf2 with a team at all for at least the next 10 seasons or when I graduate college and move out (hint:I'm still in high school) and probably ESEA will be dead by then and it just really fucking pisses me off that I probably will never get better at this game or be able to play with some of the amazing people I've met because of this game. This probably looks like whining to some of you guys who are struggling with more serious situations but I'm just really annoyed.

CONFIDENCE IS KEY. Sometimes u gotta say fuck it and do it. Nike wasn't lying
also for the people complaining about having no friends:
high school sucks, I have friends and they smoke weed and shit and thats great but i dont do it i was never interested. dont let your friend convince you to do something u dont want to do like if u want to smoke weed go for it have fun. I've accepted the fact that I probably wont have super close hs friends and my real friends live 5 hours away from me and I see them 2 months of 1 year at summer camp, so you might as well focus on academics so you can get into the college you want to go and then start fresh there.
