Soldier DM problems

A problem I noticed I have as a pocket is finding the right position to be to defend my medic. I think I'm doing everything right, but then a scout or roamer manages to get my med, and it makes me think there's an obvious problem but I can't figure out what it is.

sometimes there's just really nothing you can do unless you wanna try hitting 100% airshots on a bombing soldier. med is important but its not the end of the world if he goes down. just be extra careful when you have uber advantage because chances are they're gonna try and force or drop your med (you should really be in a position to avoid this in the first place). and sometimes a scout getting in means your flank isn't paying attention/doing their job (unless they're dead). its not always the pocket's fault if the med dies :) although I like to blame my pocket anyways

You should *definitely* blame your pocket, followed by your flank, and then everyone else remaining (cause it's never your fault, ever).

Just kidding, but yeah L-block is right. Sometimes there's just nothing you can do if your flank goes down. I don't play pocket, but my best advice would be watch some demos of high level pockets and just see where they are generally standing on holds 'n stuff.

its rare that a called bomber should get by your pocket/demo and snipe the medic

if hes not called its more of a tossup as to who hits what rockets/are we in a choke/what else is going on

mge was designed for this i think, the reason people shouldn't play mge anymore, instead play dm, is because people play mge to win instead of play to improve, so they do things like the infamous "counter-jump" and surfing all rockets shot at them! its very annoying but try to play soapdm and you may see more improvement in your game :) especially because scouts dominate soap dm and it is great practice to kill them in dm mod.

i watched some demos of b4nny (pretty much lg's pocket) and sometimes he gets caught out but he never does the same thing 2x in a row and that is part of why he is able to out perform tyrone in the medic protection game i think.

Know positioning. That comes with experience, and so you'll learn where players like to sneak / jump from to try to catch your Medic and where you could be standing to prevent that. Understand that blind spots do exist and if you miss your airshot / shotgun or your Medic doesn't surf the rocket correctly, that stuff happens, just a little unlucky. Regardless though, your Medic should have good perception to be looking around constantly to be wary of opportunistic Scouts / roamers and letting you know ASAP if he sees anything, of course.

As a rule of thumb, if you're forced to hit airshots to save your medic(assuming the jumper was called at the proper time) you're probably holding in a bad position. Just try to make a mental note about where that happened and why you think it happened(this can be very hard to do during a game, which makes demo reviews extremely helpful for problems like this).

it depends on why they're going after your medic/how many people they send. if it's a single bomber trying to force during a stalemate, you should always be able to deal with him (especially if you play close enough to deny entrances). if they're chasing you with them having uber and you not, you should recognize that ahead of time and be far enough back. if you just killed their medic and they're trying to equalize the advantage, you should have a lot of dudes on your team come play heals and deny all bombers.

etc.
