ESEA PROMOTION

z4chKillingz4chthrasherWhen I looked yesterday ESEA has 3 teams in open. Just looked again... 11.

Thank you for doing this promotion killing. It's great to give the newer teams a chane to play here without having to pay. It also effects all of the teams in the other divisions who have worked really hard to get where they are.
Thats's not why he's doing it. He's doing it so that the TF2 league doesn't fold.

Same thing
I wouldn't say so but whatever.

That's exactly what I was saying. The promotion is nice for the newer teams but it helps the established ones in a much bigger way... Keeping TF2 alive in ESEA.

considering cp_sunshine is the official 8th map in this season's pool, could you please release the map list for this season? seeing it would give some teams who are on the fence about one or the other league (or thinking of participating in both) a clearer vision of what to expect.

also, wouldn't it be possible to just add sizzlingstats or logs to the ESEA servers? I know you mentioned adding in stats (such as healing) is something you'd like to implement, but is there a reason I'm not aware of why these plugins could not be installed?

Do you even have any pull with the people in control of the tf2 Esea stuff? I feel like people have been begging for some shit to change or at least work properly for quite some time. It's like Esea asks for suggestions and then does absolutely nothing with them except try to give you the illusion that what you say matters. I mean you are asking people to tell you what needs to happen for them to want to play in Esea again and then saying that you will pass it along. Which we all should know by now that passing anything along there will just be totally ignored . Just seems like false hope that anything will actually improve with Esea given that people have asked for the same changes so many times and still here we are.

You seem like a great person killing and I feel for you trying so hard to make the best out of what you have but are any of these requests even within your power to change? (pug system, client and server issues,transparency,tf2 coverage and so on)

I hope for the best with either league. I hope this game grows and people find the place they feel is out for the best of the game and the people competing in it. Good luck to everyone this season in whatever league they go with.
Cheers

kuzawhat killed TF2 was ipkane going nuts and handing out 10 yr bans without answering any questions about the malware client.

This. Kane should have taken lessons from MLG Sundance on how to deal with massive negativity.

If the company you own fucks up and leaves your entire customer base (or potential customers) with a bad taste in its mouth then take some responsibility and treat us with some honesty. ESEA made itself into the bad guys of TF2 instead of working to fix relations with the community.

Very few people in Open, whether ESEA or CEVO, care how big the prize pot is.

Forgive me if this has already been mentioned (i see this and another 8 page thread, so i'm assuming somenoe probably said this already)...but why not combine open/IM and make that open, Main teams become IM, and invite stays invite. Same 3 tier model that worked for pretty much every season right??

blendtecI swear to god guys, any team that hasn't paid up for CEVO yet, PLEASE sign up for ESEA. My team won't sign up for ESEA because we already paid for CEVO, but please keep the league alive.

Ask for a refund. They should allow it.

Yep we do. As long as your team is not registered in the league, irregardless of request for refund, we refund the fee.

Heh, here we go again. Nerd essay incoming.

I feel like, for the last few seasons, there's been a plea at the start from Killing for people to keep playing in ESEA. For the first time ever, though, it's because of competition, and not just an ESEA fuck up.

Before I go on, I want to make something clear: if you're going to play in ESEA, by all means, do so. However, consider also playing in CEVO. At the same time, if you're in CEVO and looking for more action, these incentives to play in ESEA are a pretty good way to make the cost more reasonable.

With that out of the way, I'd like to bring up the fact that ESEA has done a lot of talking in the past; as I said above, one of these posts comes along every season. They usually only act on it when they're backed against a wall. For as long as I've been playing, we've been asking for pre-game DM. We've been asking for better server locations, since the most popular servers and times get filled up quickly. We've been asking for a usable PUG system since we're paying for it. We've been asking for better looking and more in-depth stats, or at the very least, log downloads.

These have all been either ignored or half-assed: they started working with Cinq on a better PUG system, but it's still sub-par compared to IRC (which, in my opinion, isn't great to begin with). I believe they finally added damage stats about two seasons after TF2Logs came around. We still have server locations that go largely unused while Chicago fills up in minutes, and we still don't have pre-game DM. These aren't huge things we're asking for (I suppose servers are a bit of work to switch over, but SOAP DM has been around for years).

Now, Killing has made two threads (I'm countin this once) asking for suggestions/requests for changes. He's done these before, and we've asked for the same things (I'm probably missing one or two). Lange has held two public community meetings where he and Pipher (of CEVO) have answered questions, and we've gotten plenty of things we've asked for: before the season started, CEVO had no stats, no servers, and no prize pot. They've since added all of those things, as well as the ability to easily pay for your teammates (or anybody in the league), and are looking to modify the map list to match what the community wants.

My question is, why does it take CEVO, in the span of a few short months, to accomplish all of these when ESEA has been pestered for years? I find it hard to believe that lpkane came to Killing asking to add a Main division when he's publicly put down TF2 (and we've been asking Killing for Main for way before it happened as well), essentially perma-ban players who just wanted answers, and is just an all-around shady figure. I really don't think he cares; if TF2 really doesn't make money for ESEA (I'm sure they at least make something; the spreadsheet makes a strong case to the contrary, but we don't have all of the numbers) then why are they so desperate to keep it? I just don't see "the community's best interests" in their minds when they just let one of the most disappointing Invite seasons happen because of a technicality.

tl;dr: If you're going to play in ESEA, that's cool. If you're going to play in CEVO, that's cool. If you play in both, even better.[/b] I'm not really trying to persuade anybody because I think it's great that we finally have two options for leagues, instead of one monopolizing one. Maybe this season is finally the one that lights a fire under ESEA and we get to see more improvements made; I hope that's the case. Just don't blindly go to one league or the other because that's the current popular opinion, do it because it offers the features you want.
