Some competitive Smash players are making a Melee-esque fighting game, looking pretty great so far, I hope they reach their goal

Looks pretty cool. I used to love playing smash but never got into playing it competitively. Still I'd like to play this.

it says there's no helpless phase in the air, which seems really strange. How would that even work within a combo'ing system or is comboing just less possible. And in melee if you did like the old powershield into upsmash followed by a dair, it would render the person into a "helpless" state while sending them flying off the screen. It wasn't a knock out in the sense that, there was no possible way to come back, but odds were that the helpless stage(which increased as you got damage more) would of been so long that you would need frame perfect reactions to get back onto the stage.

idk though it looks pretty cool.

Looks sick, but I hate to say I hate the character design. Going from the over-the-topness of various Nintendo characters to just...people is honestly a downgrade. Even if they're different kinds of people, they're still just people. They need a roster of interesting, unique characters for me to really get behind it.

That's a good point. SSB series is popular mainly for having all the diverse Nintendo characters. Even if this becomes a competitive game, it won't have the same reach as the SSB series (unless it becomes the next LoL f2p).

If the game is being properly developed as a modern game (f2p microtransactions) + given they are a 16man dev team it seems real hard to believe they couldn't just get capital. tbh the entire concept sounds 1. incredibly naive 2. too focused on "competitive fundamentals" rather than creating a game that anyone would enjoy rather than competitive playerbase

this will likely turn out either never coming out or be the equivalent of warsow

Pretty much this. Making a new game that is essentially just a pro-mode of an already popular existing game never does well when getting a solid playerbase.

The animation so far looks pretty awful, but I guess it's still has a long way to go for completion still.

there's already a pro mode of brawl. i think this'll probably be a bit more than that, since they're planning to have a proper online system, which is something smash has been missing.

there's already a pro mode of brawl (project m) made by the same people. i think this'll probably be a bit more than that, since they're planning to have a proper online system, which is something smash has been missing.

Project M is not a pro mode of brawl, Brawl+ is the pro mode of brawl

project M is basically the melee engine using brawl graphics
