hey setsul i was wondering if you can set me up with a build

id like to get something around $1500-1750 but no more over $2000

im looking for a computer good for tf2 csgo and other single player games that i can play and stream with good graphics and quality. i was thinking off getting a bulk of the parts on cyber monday if i can but its not a big deal if i dont. i just need to have parts in mind so if they are on sale then i can jump on them.

im probably going to be buying this monitor to go with the setup if it matters at all.

They are not settings, they are features.
It depends on what's most important to you.
Basically:
- IPS = better colours, but more expensive. Preferred for photo/video editing or simply watching movies.
- Lightboost/ULMB/Strobing = lower motion blur, basically going from 120 Hz to 120 Hz with strobing looks like going from 60 Hz to 120 Hz. Good for fast fps games, but only if you can actually get >120 fps reliably (same as normal 120/144 Hz).
- G-Sync/FreeSync = Syncs fps and refresh rate so you don't get the horrible stuttering, screen tearing and other problems you'd get if your fps drop below the refresh rate. Great if expect to not be able to get 120/144 fps at all times.

While some monitors offer both Strobing and G-/FreeSync you can't use them at the same time. Well the XL2730Z can but it's 500$, 27", 1440p so not exactly what you wanted.

About the i7: It really won't do anything unless you're going to stream, keep that in mind. And because you'll have to get a cheaper GPU you'll probably get lower fps with it.

Same as always, I can make a rough sketch now, but I'd rather wait for the actual prices in the week that you'll actually be buying it.

That's still a long way off. There's not much point in doing a partlist 2 months in advance, especially if you're trying to take advantage of deals that I can't know about yet. I'd have to change most of the partlist again.

Post here again a week or so before Cyber Monday at earliest, then I should be able to do a much better job than I would be to now.

And fuck the VG248QE, I have so many rants on that topic.

Well then I guess Lightboost or something, since that seems to be the best feature for gaming, correct? I'll only be using it for gaming 95% of the time anyways.

Also alright, but if it's not too much trouble would you wanna give me a rough idea of what you'd have in mind now for a PC build and then just quickly go through it agian the week before I build it? It's alright though if you dont wanna waste time doing it twice tho, we could wait till then but I'd appreciate it a lot.

Generally for fast paced games Lightboost, for slower games or if you want it to look as pretty as possible without stuttering G-/FreeSync.

Uh I'm hoping I can get 120+ FPS in at least med settings or something in most games considering I'm dumping quite a sum of money into building it ._.

Well games like Star wars, Everspace and other GPU heavy games like overwatch, world of warships and world of tanks. Forgot to mention I play those as well, esp world of warships.

You can get >100 fps on max settings with a 150$ GPU in those.

WoT is also one of the few games with worse multithreading than TF2. Because it doesn't have any. At all.

Assuming you're talking about the new Star Wars Battlefront, that and Overwatch are actually not too demanding either. It's not easy but with e.g. a GTX 1080 getting >120 fps actually isn't a problem on 1080p even with maxed out settings.

Alright that looks great thank you, just wondering though what if I wanted to start streaming, making videos etc. Wouldn't I need an i7 core then? If so, how much more $$ would I need to add to my current budget to replace the i5 with a good i7 instead and keeping everything else?

You wouldn't need it, it just would actually help. If you're not streaming you wouldn't notice a difference.

The thing is though I'm not sure if the 1080 is going to happen with Swedish prices. Since the 1070 is 200$ cheaper if we have to drop down to that the i7 might fit within the budget anyway.

Hey Setsul and other PC building enthusiasts. I'm planning on getting a new PC and I was wondering if you can give me some advice and maybe hook me up with a build you think fits my needs.

So basically the plan is to come up with a build and then send it to a store I know for them to build it for me, the budget should be around 5000-5500 NIS which is ~1300-1450$. One problem is that the price and availability of components might differ from where you look parts up, thus making my budget worth less then it would be in $.
I would like you to try to fit the budget in $ and if there's a component that isn't available for me or that costs a drastically different amount for me I will write back to you after seeing your idea for the build.

My needs for the PC are mainly:
1. Gaming - Including but not limited to Overwatch, Rocket League, GTA V, etc. In which I would like to get good performance on pretty good settings.
2. School work and programming (probably not really worth noting here but whatever).
3. Overall casual PC use and video/stream watching.
4. I might branch out in the future to other sorts of activities/hobbies involving PC use.

Now some things regarding the components I would like to learn about and get advice either from you or from sites you know and can link me are:
1. How crucial is the difference between i5 and i7 CPU's and what comes in factor when choosing between them and between different models.
2. Getting a HDD storage + a SSD or just a SSD.
3. Monitor - My current most likely purchase is the Benq xl2411z, and then using my current Samsung S24C350 as a second monitor, though I don't know much about the different types of dynamic frame control and screen taring fixes such as G-sync/S-sync and about the rules of dual monitors, so I would like to get advice on that too.
Budget for monitor is around the price of the xl2411z, and I am looking for around the same level of specs for it as well.

Hey Setsul and other PC building enthusiasts. I'm planning on getting a new PC and I was wondering if you can give me some advice and maybe hook me up with a build you think fits my needs.

So basically the plan is to come up with a build and then send it to a store I know for them to build it for me, the budget should be around 5000-5500 NIS which is ~1300-1450$. One problem is that the price and availability of components might differ from where you look parts up, thus making my budget worth less then it would be in $.
I would like you to try to fit the budget in $ and if there's a component that isn't available for me or that costs a drastically different amount for me I will write back to you after seeing your idea for the build.

My needs for the PC are mainly:
1. Gaming - Including but not limited to Overwatch, Rocket League, GTA V, etc. In which I would like to get good performance on pretty good settings.
2. School work and programming (probably not really worth noting here but whatever).
3. Overall casual PC use and video/stream watching.
4. I might branch out in the future to other sorts of activities/hobbies involving PC use.

Now some things regarding the components I would like to learn about and get advice either from you or from sites you know and can link me are:
1. How crucial is the difference between i5 and i7 CPU's and what comes in factor when choosing between them and between different models.
2. Getting a HDD storage + a SSD or just a SSD.
3. Monitor - My current most likely purchase is the Benq xl2411z, and then using my current Samsung S24C350 as a second monitor, though I don't know much about the different types of dynamic frame control and screen taring fixes such as G-sync/S-sync and about the rules of dual monitors, so I would like to get advice on that too.
Budget for monitor is around the price of the xl2411z, and I am looking for around the same level of specs for it as well.

Regarding the questions:
1. You know about clock speeds and cores, right? Higher clock speeds are always better, more cores only work if a program can actually run on that many cores. E.g. TF2 doesn't gain anything beyond 3 cores (and not much beyond 2) because it can only use 2 but then there's obviously still the OS and GPU driver. Rendering/Streaming will use all the cores you throw at it. Due to how CPUs work (I won't go into it) no core is ever perfectly utilized, so what happens on an i7 it reports 8 instead of 4 cores to the OS to get a bit better utilization (most say around 30%). So when streaming it would perform like a 5 or 6 core, but nowhere near an actual 8 core, and for anything that uses 4 or less threads (like 99.9% of all games) it won't make any difference.

2. Depends on how much space you want/need. A 250GB SSD will be cheaper than a 120GB SSD + an HDD.

3. Basically if you get >120 fps G-Sync/FreeSync become useless, if you get <120 fps Lightboost becomes useless.
For Lightboost the XL2411Z is the best options.

I will most likely send the build to either Ivory or KSP but I just wasn't sure how to approach this with you since these are shops in Israel and Ivory doesn't even have an option for english on their website.

1. So to sum it up for my needs it's generally better to get an i5 just because it costs less and doesn't make much difference?

2. On my current computer I have about 300 GB being used as of now, and I'll probably be using more/want to have more on the new PC. From my understanding though there is also a difference in reliability and speed between SSD and HDD so that is also a factor I suppose.

You shouldn't need a CPU fan when it's boxed, and you can always drop the SSD or downgrade the card to an RX470 if you need to save for a monitor/OS.

The budget is excluding the monitor, monitor's a different budget which is pretty much around the price of the XL2411Z.

Also I just want to mention that if there's an improvement that is good/important but exceeds the budget by a little I'll probably be able and willing to fill the gap.

I'm not really a fan expert. The case comes with one, how many more will he need? 1?

hey, need a build for my sister. budget around 350 - 400 euros. uses alot of photoshop and premiere, plays tf2, hearthstone and some other newerish games.
dont need an ssd since i will be taking the one from her laptop out and putting it in. no optical drive needed. no peripherals. need wifi card since ethernet cable is not an option.

Okay Setsul so I went to KSP to consult with them and to order the assembly, and after reading your part list with the guy that helped me we made some changes to it.
I would like to get your opinions on the changes and on the new build in general.
I should note I'm okay with adding some money to the budget as long as it's for a crucial / important / safer change.
After making the changes I ordered the assembly from them, but it's gonna take some time meaning I have until probably sunday to make changes to what I ordered or withdraw his changes which is why I am bothering you again.

The changes are as follows:
1. According the the KSP employee the i5 6600 Box doesn't include a cooler so he replaced it with a tray and added a fan - Arctic Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 this seems a little weird to me though and I think he might have confused it with the K series which doesn't come with a fan so I want to hear what you think. It's also worth noting that even if the box does include a fan and he was wrong the temperatures in israel are relatively high and the default fan might not be enough so it might be worth getting a tray + CPU Cooler anyways.
2. He also said the 450W PSU might not be enough and fail at peaks so he replaced it with the 550 one, I don't know much about what that means but I'm okay with adding money to the budget if it means being safer/improving. If you don't agree maybe a 500W is an option?
3. He said the case doesn't have enough room for the GPU so he replaced the case with Antec P9 WINDOW ATX Mid Tower, I think he was wrong on this one too because looking up the GPU I found it does fit in the case. Regardless of the mistake he said the antec one is better. Should I just stick to the CoolerMaster one?
4. I decided to go with only the 500 GB SSD instead of getting both a SSD and a HDD. If I ever need more space I will add to it.

I will also note going past the budget by not too much ( as much as the new build does) is okay.
