Is there any anime to start watching for those that never really like them. And what I mean by this is having Adult Swim on while one of their shows are on and not liking them, at all.

Depends what you're looking for. It's the same as asking "I don't watch much TV, can you recommend me some shows?"

I never meant it to upset anyone, I just decided that it could be like Sci-fi, I could like anime too. I never gave it a shot when I was in school (too stubborn, thinking in was too nerdy then) but now I love most of them. I have watched every single Stargate show, all BSG, all TNG, all Firefly, basically all the Sci-fi that I had clue I would like as a young adult, I love as an adult. So I am assuming the same for this. No one has ever said where to start like that of the sci-fi

I don't think anyone is upset, I was just saying you're asking a really broad question. Sci-fi is a particular genre and anime is more a form of media like books/tv/movies. I can list you a ton of anime, I'm just uncertain what genre you're looking for.

If you want a sci-fi anime, I'd recommend Ghost in the Shell. I've only seen the movie and not the series, though.

FzeroI never meant it to upset anyone, I just decided that it could be like Sci-fi, I could like anime too.

G Gundam
Gundam Wing
Mobile Suit Gundam 00

Those are, IMO, the best of the Gundam series. If you're huge into Sci-Fi, then I would just recommend the entire gundam series (there is like 2 million different series that each have a good amount of episodes; at least over 20).

Example:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSYAtChwObs

Outer-space is a big thing in the entire Gundam series, though less so in some compared to others. Gundam is basically a Sci-Fi/Mecha/Shounen anime You'll come across other genres depending on which series you're watching. (shounen = usually aimed at teenagers. you typically see a lot of fighting which may or may not include superpowers like dbz or machines like gundam; mecha = anime w/ piloted robots).

Considering Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Mecha, Shounen are some of the genres right up my alley, I can help you find other anime.

as a dude who hasn't watched too much anime I liked:

movies: Akira, Princess Mononoke, Steamboy
shows: Kino's Journey, Mushishi

One thing about anime you have to keep in mind is that japan is really different culturally and it sometimes comes across in certain dialogue/characterization where it might seem kinda awkward or cheesy to your baka gaijin sensibilities (did for me anyway). It's a bit different than just picking up a new genre of western media like sci-fi, but you get used to it.

If you like Sci-Fi, I would give Planetes a shot. It's a hard sci-fi anime/manga, meaning it's more "grounded in science", to the extent that one might be anyway. It's also less about aliens and wars and more just about what space really means as a new frontier for the human race.
