Make TFTV like ESPN

I was reading an article recently about ESPN and how they have become so successful by providing a channel where you could tune in at any time and watch sports/watch people talking about sports and it got me thinking.

What if on the tf.tv twitch page it would rebroadcast previous streams on tf.tv? Not the whole stream of course but essentially the VOD on youtube with just the match. Now of course people are going to tell me to go watch those on youtube but the whole point of this is just having a place to watch TF2 without having to choose.

Thoughts? Is it dumb?

i remember when i would just run espn in the background while i did other stuff

it was really comforting for some reason

i don't think tftv has that replay value as of yet

ESPN also creates hours and hours of content every single day.

On a special day we have like 3 hours of content, and most have 0. It would be hard to create a 24 hour stream out of that.

ESPN focuses on multiple sports, TFTV only focuses on TF2.

I could see this happening as some sort of collaboration with other esport casting orgs, but solely TFTV? Probably not, unless TF2 is that interesting to watch.

True. There are a ton of VODS though and those are generally pretty long.

You mean like a channel with all kinds of esports? I guess that could work.

On the flip side having VanillaTV, TF.TV, eXtv etc.. band up to rebroadcast all of their content could solve the issue that reilly brought up.

Once upon a time, Livestream.com (formally Mogulus) would allow you to run archived footage from previous streams or Youtube clips when you didn't have a live input going into the account. Since it was designed more in mind with real-life broadcasts using the website as a producer suite than for online gaming it wasn't all that practical/useful for what most of us use Twitch/Justin.tv for now.

Though it was fun to play around with.

There was a channel called TF Radio or something, that might be the one skyride ran. It rarely had much more than 10 viewers, hardly what I would call worthwhile.

Just went looked and found the forum thread about it. It seems strange to me that it died. Seems like the idea of constant frag clips, vods etc... would be quite fun.

would be kinda neat to have something like qlrankstv a bot that would hop around in servers and just stream whatever people were playing be it bball pugs mge jumping ect ect. Not sure how this would work but I think it could be pretty cool if pulled off right.

I suggest it be something like tip of the hats where they had a schedule for certain events. I really enjoyed the variety and it gave more exposed different ways to play tf2 for viewers. It'll probably have a rough start but if it does gain enough interest from people then it could grow pretty big. I might just be delusional though =P

Well with tip of the hats everything was arranged and there is no real way to automate that.

If you went back into old Sal vods and stuff, and sixes as far back as recorded, there would be plenty of content. If I could catch old games with people like Solid Snake or Reptile that would be wicked cool, watching with other people in chat is always better, even if it's only ten people.

I've suggested a similar thing in the past.

All that has to be done is to assemble a playlist, set a time 2-3 nights a week, and replay old casts.

It'd be so easy because all you have to do is have some random guy set up the stream and click play on the playlist.

MerchantWell with tip of the hats everything was arranged and there is no real way to automate that.

I say it's just a matter of whether people are dedicated enough to participate or able to get teams to play at certain times and stuff. I understand that it's very difficult to keep it scheduled like that at all times but I say it is crucial to get consistent viewership.

Maybe have one of these things.
Have it show scores, match times of Invite/Plat/Prem matches. And have it link to the highlights of the month or something (If we're still even doing highlights)

Avertum, I think you're missing the point. There are so many great games that have already been played. We don't need people playing all the time; a playlist and rebroadcast system would take a few hours to set up, and then just click and play. It could possibly be even set up so that the community could add vods as they are created

Sorry, guess I got a bit carried away with what I was thinking. Personally, I don't like watching content like that without commentary. Maybe we could have people who wish to work on their casting practice there. Could also create a bot to accept item donations so that we could have random give aways to keep people interested in the stream.

Well, this was all purely hypothetical/a suggestion but the idea would be to have previous cast so there would be commentary.

It wouldn't hurt to try to expand the idea. I mean, with more casters we could have the lower teams have their game casted and provide more content that way too.

Lots of good ideas to be had, just need to keep in mind that we're working within the confines of the current streaming platforms to make stuff work.

Show Content
Though it wouldn't hurt to ask John if we can bug the Twitch techies for advice/assistance.

I think you are kinda missing the point which is somewhat my fault. My idea wasn't to have constant live casts but to have constant replaying of VODs.

I do understand what you are saying. I'm just saying that there's many other things we could do as well to make this more beneficial to the community. lol
