#7 Playing on a mac in Q/A Help

http://www.teamfortress.tv/25328/comanglias-config-fps-guide
I don't know how different it'd be on macs, but most of the settings should increase fps either way. You're not going to get great fps until you start using windows though.

sibbyowlcomethi berry have you tried the getting that smooth texture pack that a lot of users use to help boost frames?

Flat textures don't increase frames.
Clean TF2 increases frames because of the unlit materials, but that's also what breaks in sv_pure.
Generally speaking, there's no mods that significantly help fps and still work in sv_pure 2. Iirc the biggest boost is the no hats mod, and that's not that huge.

#26 TfLive Hud? in Q/A Help
Maxi-Why don't all leagues use the same HUD?

>then new players won't get confused looking at new huds like all the viewmodel settings

(I'm probably biased because huds were a major appeal to me but) I don't really see it as a huge issue. Most casting huds have all the same information in the same or similar places and try to be as readable as possible--past that I don't think viewers would have any issues with huds, and definitely not different ones. New players who are straight up confused by there being huds at all wouldn't understand any hud that's not default, and default spectator hud is absolute garbage. Some games have entirely different clients for tournaments even, don't forget.

Making all leagues use the same HUD would probably get a lot of complaints though and imo is making a problem instead of solving one.

#3667 HUD editing: short questions, quick answers in Customization
JBNot really a hud question, but what's the easiest way to remove the "-" from a fontfile so it only shows the numbers below the crosshair?

http://i.imgur.com/3cbnNok.png

https://fontforge.github.io/ Basically just edit the glyph, remove everything from it, then go into font info and rename the font to something else, then export as a new font (if it was a .ttf, make the new one a .ttf too, and vice versa with .otf).

#35 Nixeus Revel in Hardware
RainofLightthe mousefeet on mine are too thin or something because the mouse scrapes my mousepad really bad with any amount of downward pressure applied.
I had to bend the m1 and m2 away from the center piece with the scroll wheel because the sides would have friction and create a squishy feel for the click

edit: I got an email reply after contacting support, it said this:
"Yes, we are looking into this. We are actually waiting for the feets to come in once they do we will inform everybody of its availability."

I actually really like the mousefeet for hard surfaces. Though they have some pretty sharp edges, if that might be what's breaking mousepads.

I didn't have that scroll wheel issue, but my scroll wheel is pretty close to M1 with a big gap between it and M2. It doesn't cause any issues but I can definitely see it fucking things up if it were a bit more to the left. Past that the build quality's been pretty good though.

lootWhat makes it better? Does it track better on more different surfaces, or have higher accurately tracking DPI range, etc? Just being realistic, I don't see how there could be any difference at all at low DPI on a cloth mousepad. Any optical sensor without accel, negative accel, smoothing or angle snapping should perform identically. Yet, there has to be some difference or else it would just be the same sensor.

According to PixArt's specs, for mouse design it's both smaller and requires less voltage (and they don't put weight but I'd assume lighter too), while supporting a higher max resolution (12000 dpi vs 5000 dpi) and a better twitch/max speed (250ips vs 130ips).

Realistically these aren't really important at all and pretty unlikely to ever come into play, so if you have a 3310 there's not really any need to upgrade. But at the same time you can get a Revel on massdrop for cheaper than any 3310 mice I've seen (correct me if I'm wrong), so if you're getting a new mouse you're not really getting cheated out of anything either.

TsarbucksJarateKingComanglia's

If by hammer textures you mean fullbright, that used to be achievable with Clean TF2 but as of a long time ago, it broke in sv_pure.

May sound like a dumb question, but does that work on ESEA servers?

Comanglia's does, any cfg would. Clean TF2 doesn't.

#5 URGENT 5HELP in Hardware

It's probably the keyboard's controller that's dying, and there's no easy fix to that.

Maybe use this as a chance to upgrade to a mechanical keyboard, they're a lot nicer and generally built better.

#4 How to get custom CP icons to work in Customization

I thought valve patched all vmt-related stuff a long time ago. I guess not :)

Unless something happened since then, it seems pretty weird that A) preloading on the main menu works (it never did when I tried with the healthcross image, pre-patch and post-patch) and B) it works with preloading at all (valve's patch was basically to reload all materials when you join a server).

Top find in any case. Hopefully this extends to more than just cp icons, though I don't know what else is loaded in a similar way.

Medico_di_BiscottiThis is purely hypothetical because we already have a single file for this, but could you instead of using chapterbackgrounds.txt. use separate VMT files for the different menu backgrounds and have them all redirect to the same file?

You could but it'll mess up whenever a new update adds a new background. And it'd only work because you'll never see it ingame (and by extension never see it in sv_pure), working through this method isn't very likely because they're probably just not a material that works for it.

#3604 HUD editing: short questions, quick answers in Customization
Jackal176Apologies if this is a dumb question, but is it possible to rotate elements within a hud? For example I have a square, can I rotate it say 45 degrees for example? Or will I have to find workarounds?

You can't rotate elements through hud files.

If it's just a square though, you could make an image file that's a rotated square to your liking and use that.

#4 Reflex time in Off Topic

0.1966 (Rocketing Rabit)

jdm~.191 but that is with 3/5 stopping at .166 which is weird

All my scores were either 2ms within 0.216 or 1ms within 0.168, even after doing it a second time. I think it's just flash having bad polling rates for this sorta thing.

#5 Some nice keycaps for 10 bucks (Massdrop) in Hardware

I thought it was going to be a complete steal but it's only modifier keys, and not a fan of the colors either :(

Still, doubleshot PBT is pretty nice. Does it say what profile it is?

sopsi want to open this link but i fear for my security

It's legit. You can just go on massdrop and see it if you'd prefer.
e: yeah just noticed the referal, hiding it is pretty dumb.

#15 College Essays in Off Topic

In 618 words you have 54 commas, and in 26 total sentences you have 21 that contain at least one comma. That's way too much. They butcher the fuck out of your writing and make it difficult to follow. You need to both cut the commas that don't need to be there and rework sentences that don't need them, because you shouldn't end up with anywhere near that many commas.

And since you added the prompt, you seem to be a bit off topic with it. You need to make it clear first off how you're going to answer the prompt. Make it directly clear what the community you're talking about is first off (in a tasteful way, but make sure they know right off the bat). Keep descriptions of your community and your involvement sane--they should be related and avoid meaningless descriptors that aren't involved with anything else. You were sorta doing that but the link between what your community is and what you did felt forced, not to mention a bit rude to other people (you don't want to look like an asshole, you accomplishments should speak for themselves without having to put anyone else down).

and with intelligence in our DNA.

I want to nitpick this because you really shouldn't send this. It just seems jerkish/arrogant (and having this right after saying "caucasian" doesn't help much, just sounds like psuedo-neo-nazi shit then). Idk if this was added in as a little joke thing but if it could be interpreted the wrong way, it will be, and it's hard to interpret it in a good way too. I'm 99% sure when it says intellectual heritage, it's referring more to how your thinking got influenced through your life, and not some genetic/racial superiority.

e: ninja'd with the upbringing, but the 'most other people wasted their lives and did nothing while I was a select few who did something' is another thing to look at too.

#13 Any way to get state flags? in Site Discussion

idk if you can really compare that list to the states.

Wales, England, and Scotland aren't sovereign but at the same time they are countries. Same with the Faroe Islands. Puerto Rico's in a weird state (heh) where it's in the process of being a state still and even then it'd be a while before people fully start considering it as one--I've known a lot of people that never actually knew Puerto Rico was a part of America. I don't know much about the Virgin Islands but I've been told they're in the same boat. And Quebec's been split almost 50/50 on leaving Canada before due to a large amount of people identifying themselves as Quebecois more than Canadian, and is the only province to have its flag here for that reason.

All for state flags btw, but there's not really a huge case for it other than some of them looking nice and some looking crazy.

#7 Why has there been no new huds lately? in Customization

This is only the way I see it, but with the huge recent push to update every old major hud and the lack of updates breaking them, there's not a huge need. On top of that, as someone who has a hud released, I don't want to work on another and have to deal with updating both when something big inevitably hits and breaks them both (even though I've got some ideas for new things).

We've probably got the highest number of quality huds that are up to date that we've ever had, even though there's a bit of a drought in new ones. Though there are still some wips on the hud mods thread, as always.
