Update: I'm no longer updating this and have no plans to continue doing so.

After having 3 other people use "My FPS config" as thread names I figured I should make an actual official thread about my cfg.

**Australium Weapon Fix**
HERE

Introducing

Max FPS for High Quality PCs// The Original Config that I use/update MUST HAVE QUAD-CORE OR BETTER CPU
https://www.dropbox.com/s/3l82p8udwrq680d/gfx.cfg?dl=0
Launch options "-dxlevel 81 -full -w WIDTH -h HEIGHT -console -novid"

Max FPS for Mid Quality PCs // Also known as Max Stability
https://www.dropbox.com/s/u4eem6xyyg6mzpc/stability.cfg?dl=0
Launch options "-dxlevel 81 -full -w WIDTH -h HEIGHT -console -novid" (remove the -dxlevel 81 for better stability with ALT+Tabbing)
Want the toaster config? Make THESE changes. Note: Will make your game blurry and I included a note on how to make it less blurry so please don't add me cause your game is extremely blurry.

FPS config for New Players
-currently in progress-
Sometimes my FPS config goes to far, and disables a lot of useful information that helps players learn the game / new maps. Base of this CFG is most like Max Stability.

and...

Comanglia's Cinema Config
https://www.dropbox.com/s/fq1noz4rx7wvrer/cinema.cfg?dl=0
Thinking about making a Frag Video/Movie/Clip? Give this a try!

Note 1: Goals of this config was to make TF2 as pretty as possible while, limiting clutter where/when possible.
Note 2: This config will also try to make demos as stable as possible, rather than as performance based as possible.

Caster Version
-in progress-
the last release I had isn't really practical for casting, reworking it based off advice from dashner

Max FPS Guide

pre step 1. Have a good PC that you can/know how to overclock. (not applicable to everyone)
1. Install my config. This is where I have mine installed.

Show Content
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf\custom\my_custom_stuff\cfg\gfx.cfg

2. Set you PC to "High Performance" mode http://www.okcomputersolution.com/easyblog/windows-7-performance-tips-enable-high-performance-mode.html
3. Adjust Visual effects of windows to "Best Performance" http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/how-adjust-visual-settings-windows-7-best-performance.htm
4. Launch options "-dxlevel 81 -full -w WIDTH -h HEIGHT -console -novid" (full screen performs better, DX 81 might not be best for all users)
5. Install No Hats Mod

Harbls No Hat's Mod
https://teamfortress.tv/thread/16179/no-hats-mod

No Hat's Mod Particle Effects remover (Very Few Unusual Effects remain)
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/92187841/Nohat-effects.vpk

6. Remove Bullet Hole Dust
http://drok-radnik.com/junk/surfaceproperties.txt
http://pastebin.com/aTd3AF75 (above link probably no longer works)

Install Location for removing dust on bullet holes

Show Content
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf\custom\my_custom_stuff\scripts

7. Don't use to many HUD elements
Hud Elements
All hud elements eat up frame rate, turning off commands like cl_showfps, net_graph 1/2/3/4 , Your Crosshair, any extra Hud Crosshairs should save you some if not a large amount of FPS (if it's net_graph 3/4)

8. Optional Stuff
Aspect Ratios
Resolutions don't matter so much in TF2 as TF2 is cpu limited but since there's discrepancies in the FOV of each aspect ratio they have different framerates.

The Benchmarks http://teamfortress.tv/thread/20172/my-fps-config#18
4:3 Lowest FOV, Highest FPS
16:10 Middleground for both
16:9 Highest FOV, Lowest FPS

HUDs
Which HUD provides the best FPS?

Here's what I've tested so far!!!
http://teamfortress.tv/thread/20172/my-fps-config/?page=1#29

Now for the most important part of any CFG thread.

BENCHMARKS Date Taken: May 18th, 2015
Specs of PC used
CPU = i5 4670k @4.2GHz
GPU = ASUS R9 270x
RAM = 8 GB DDR3 @1600MHz
OS = Windows 7

All benchmarks are after I did my Guide up to step 7 (except personal best)

m0re's config

m0re's config with Shadows and Ragdolls off

Chris Max Frames

2639 frames 13.050 seconds 202.23 fps ( 4.94 ms/f) 10.944 fps variability

Chris Max Frames with cl_threaded_bone_setup 1

2639 frames 11.858 seconds 222.55 fps ( 4.49 ms/f) 11.972 fps variability

Max FPS for High Quality PCs

2639 frames 11.478 seconds 229.91 fps ( 4.35 ms/f) 13.286 fps variability

Max FPS for Mid Quality PCs

2639 frames 12.746 seconds 207.04 fps ( 4.83 ms/f) 10.126 fps variability

Max FPS for Potatos / Toasters (640 x 480)

2639 frames 12.587 seconds 209.66 fps ( 4.77 ms/f) 11.286 fps variability

Chris Max Quality (-dxlevel 98)

2639 frames 23.826 seconds 110.76 fps ( 9.03 ms/f) 3.750 fps variability

Comanglia's Cinema Config (-dxlevel 98)

2639 frames 25.180 seconds 104.81 fps ( 9.54 ms/f) 3.260 fps variability

Comanglia's Caster Config (-dxlevel 98)

2639 frames 22.196 seconds 118.90 fps ( 8.41 ms/f) 4.239 fps variability

Personal All Time Best (using some of the most aggressive settings I know but really shouldn't be used)

2639 frames 11.042 seconds 239.00 fps ( 4.18 ms/f) 12.702 fps variability

I didn't add Rhapsody's Config as he's setup his config in a way that's meant for users to edit it via certain key presses, so any benchmark I give for this wouldn't be true for all users.

Screenshots

Max FPS for High Quality PCs
http://imgur.com/a/Cs2sK
http://www.twitch.tv/comanglia I have some highlights with using this CFG, you might even see it live.

Max FPS for Mid Quality PCs
Exactly the same as above, most of the commands I changed are related to threading in TF2.

Max FPS for Potatoes and Toasters (I upscaled these to 1080i just to give people an idea of how bad this really looks on most monitors)
https://imgur.com/a/fNvV1

Comanglia's Cinema Config
still need to make some screenshots; major difference between this and chris's maxquality, is significantly less fog and haze.

FAQ

Q: What is the best OS for FPS?
A: Technically speaking Linux, but for most users it's actually Windows 8.1

Q: How much time have you put into this?
A: Rough Guess? 70-100hrs Since I've kept keep track (May 14th, 2015) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11dA7_Fw0vkkHPN3emCmDyx6znBrtPJl4LDdrCTVm6rY/edit?usp=sharing

Q: My Game is stuttering a lot? (Laptop Users)
A: Add a FPS cap I typically recommend around fps_max 132

Q: Why is m_rawinput set to 0? (I've commented this section out)
A: Certain programs are not compatible with it, some OS's don't work well with it, and some people use alternative versions of rawinput that can't have this on.

Q: How/Where can I add you at?
A: If you can't figure this out you probably shouldn't add me.

Q: Why are my map textures strobing?
A: You're probably running an Nvidia card while in DX 8, either switch to DX 9 or in some cases update your driver.

Q: What does "x" command do?
A: I may or may not know ask below.

Q: I'm crashing a lot and I don't know why?
A: If you're not using my Stable or Toaster versions, odds are it's cause you have a below quad-core cpu OR having a DX 9 error OR you crashed when alt+tabbing and should take out -dxlevel from the launch options.

Thank You's / Credits

Chris - Without him NONE of this would've happened at least from me
Rhapsody - If he didn't post a config awhile back that I thought he messed up pretty badly on I probably wouldn't have released mine. That and he helped me with a lot of testing / finding some new commands.
The Regime / Moose - Without having played on this team or spoken with Moose I wouldn't have found this config, or had much reason to update it.
All of you - Reason why I still update this, and have decided to make more configs to fit a wider array of users.
Valve - For letting so many commands be user defined.
meb - for making the TF2 Benchmark thread to give us a basis for improving on our configs

I did the whole Set you PC to "High Performance and the following steps and my fps on the benchmark went from 172.1 to 186.4

How is the bad quality PC fps cfg giving less results than the Good quality PCs one?
What changed between those two?

uhhh, quite alot the biggest reason why though for the fps difference is related to threading. Nearly no PC that would require the toaster cfg could support the threading commands of a Good Quality PC. Their was also several other changes, that highly effects how the game looks and are GPU dependent. Most people who I would classify as Toaster users are people with really old desktops / low end laptops with Integrated or APU graphics.

I really like the cinema.cfg. Finally something I can recommend to the newest players and not having to talk about lerp, fov, automatic reload, etc.

I don't remember if I put in automatic reload or not...

I know I have fast weapon switching, fov 90, and the interp already though in all of them (or at least they should be)

Is there any difference between setting visual effects to "best performance" and using these options?

http://i.imgur.com/RiUvfW1.png

("../Team Fortress 2/hl2.exe" > properties > "Compatibility" tab)

Been using it for a long time, it disables aero and gets rid of input lag while TF2 is running but resets back to your standard theme when you exit the game, so Windows doesn't look like ass.

assuming the 1st line is "disable desktop composition" I believe that should work fine.

Technically what he said has possible meanings.
1. He legitimately thought I put no mention of mods in there and thought of those 2.
or
2. He thinks I should add more just like the other 2 I mentioned

edit: should also have a warning that raw input is turned off, i wouldn't have noticed if someone didn't point it out. Or better yet have it commented out and let whatever the original config the user had set take care of it.

also

m_rawinput isn't "turned off" it's actually commented out so your previous settings should remain correct assuming they've been saved before

hooliadd instructions on disabling non-microsoft services and startup entries via msconfig

While I have done this for myself, I don't feel like the performance gain is as significant as some people believe, and could easily have someone disable something that they actually need/use

mat_mipmaptextures 0 / 1

Thought I'd let people know about this command it's a (almost) purely aesthetic difference
default it 1, and as far as I could tell setting it to 0 doesn't play well with the Cinema config with certain stairs/walkways

Hey I was using one if your older fps configs before and decided to try out your fps config for toasters here to see if it makes a difference. I really like it but it seems to be quite blurry. Do you know the command/s to make it less blurry :3

you're probably running it at a really low res. change your launch options to -full -w 1280 -h 720 or some higher res.

I'm running at 800×600 so that would make sense haha

Technically what he said has possible meanings.
1. He legitimately thought I put no mention of mods in there and thought of those 2.
or
2. He thinks I should add more just like the other 2 I mentioned

Basicly its 2 :P just looking for more mods that help in getting better fps besides the ones you mencioned
