#5 TF2 update #2 for 10/25/16 (10/26/16 UTC) in TF2 General Discussion

Thank you for listening Valve. I played a couple Turbine games yesterday and they were pretty unfun. Thanks for taking into account the feedback the competitive community (and a lot of less competitive matchmaking players!) gave you.

On a related note, I've been playing more matchmaking recently. It's in a much better state compared to release. There's been a lot of time for players to rank up from fresh meat, so games are more even and a bit higher skill than they used to be, once you rank up. I recommend other players to try it out- queue with a friend or two, but not more than 3 or 4 people max. There's a lot that could improve, but it's pretty fun!

#1752 PC Build Thread in Hardware

So I'm finally getting around to it.

I don't have a firm budget. Ideally, I'd like to spend less than $1200 CAD. I live in Ontario, Canada. I use PayPal for all my online purchases (no credit card as of yet) so I can't get anything from Amazon.

My use cases are primarily TF2 and Overwatch, with a few other games (civ, football manager, CS:GO) I play rarely and am not worried about. I'd like to get 150+ fps in TF2 matchmaking, and 150+ fps on Overwatch on medium or better settings. This is the first time I'm really diving into building a PC or doing anything related, so I'd like some feedback on a potential build I put together on pcpartpicker. PSU not included, but I will need to add one to the build, I just have no idea what to go for.

I have a white/blue color theme which I'd like to stick with. I already have all the peripherals I need.

More specific questions:

Show Content
1. I see the motherboard's memory type is DDR4-2133. The RAM I have selected (mainly chosen for the color) is DDR4-2400. Does this matter?
2. I don't see myself streaming regularly, and upgrading to an i7 with similar single-core performance seems pretty expensive. How bad could I expect performance / fps hitches to be while streaming TF2 or Overwatch if I ever choose to do so?
3. Is it worth spending more money for a 6GB GTX 1060, instead of 3GB? Or is some RX 480 a better choice? I've read some things online saying that 3GB isn't very future proof, and there's a good chance I'll be using a 2 monitor setup.

edit: after talking to a friend of mine I changed cpu cooler and case fans for more blue LED effect because I'm shallow and materialistic. Link is updated

If it's been more than a decade I'd probably see a professional so they could pin down what's causing you the most issues. Tips and tricks from the internet will only get you so far (read: not very far). If you manage to find big improvements, it'll probably be life changing.

AntimoonIf things follow the path of CS matchmaking, maybe this means big changes to granary in the future? It's a REALLY big "if", but we can hope.

This being done well would require the tf2 dev team to have a lot of experience playing 6v6 tf2 in some competitive format, so that they could come up with good changes and test them effectively. Either it's not happening or it's not happening in a good way. Very likely the former

#2 Update problem help in Q/A Help

If you're on a mac you're outta luck. The game will crash every time you join a server until they release a fix (I assume they'll do so today)

It's also a lot more enjoyable if you have one or two other people to queue with, who you know you can rely on to understand the flow of the game and have okay DM. Matchmaking isn't actually that bad, a lot of the time it's more fun than pubs.

#27 ask a shitposter anything in The Dumpster

I've been going over some demos of my past shitposts and I've analyzed that I'm having some trouble using pronouns to their fullest effect. Could you illustrate the thought process between choosing to use "you" and "u"?
