Could we please fix dm server spawns?

I don't know if this is intentional or the spawn thing has broken due to an update, but either way I wish the spawn system gets fixed since the spawns have been the way for even months now?

Basically the spawns are now so that the blue players spawn only on the blue side and the red on the red side. It used to be so that you spawn randomly around the map no matter which side you were on.

Now what happens on the servers is that the teams just juggle between one side spawn camping the other & other side waiting at mid area for other side, either way it's very boring & useless.

Yes please, I generally wish the spawning system was smarter as well, ie: if I'm within 2feet of an enemy maybe don't spawn me there? Gay for both parties.

No it wasn't. Even the Serveme's premium servers having the startup DM plugin has the old system of random spawns. Before, you could spawn all around and you'd get lucky sometimes to spawn next to an opponent, now it's a team fight between mid and other side's spawn, which is ridiculously dumb.

Only once they find a way to make it so assists get you half the normal health and ammo normally received when killing someone. The biggest turn off of dm is doing damage and having a scout get a 3 damage frag and then being stuck with no health or ammo it's better to just kill bind and get full health and ammo

I actually like Freight in DM more than most of the maps where you have to either jump twice to get to mid (Specifically the Badlands spawns near spire and resup) as well as any map where you need to go through a choke most of the time to get to mid (Badlands, Gully, Gran, Snake to a degree). I would say this is more a problem with the spawns than the maps though since I don't really see a reason that there should be spawns like under the bridge on Badlands second as well as near resup.

I'm fairly sure the only thing that people really complain about in Freight are either:

1. Trains are stupid
2. Map isn't in the rotation

The first problem could probably pretty easily be solved by using Stripper (http://www.bailopan.net/stripper/) to remove all the related entities to trains. Freight not being in the rotation doesn't really change that it's a solid map to DM on. Compared to most it's fairly open and there aren't really any bad spawns that force you to walk through one or more chokes to get to a fight. I also miss having Turbine/Gravel Pit but I can understand it's removal because people would just sit on the catwalk/roof and not fight people for 10 minutes at a time. I don't really understand the removal of Coalplant/Viaduct though, they were probably my favorite maps in DM and I didn't see any real problems with either of them (Besides "its not in the rotation :^)" ).

Since I'm writing this I also figured I would bring up that for some reason an ancient version of Sunshine is being played (I think rc1/2?) and demos still have 8 stickies in clip/active compared to the 2/2 that it used to be when the servers were regularly maintained.

The packs shouldn't be removed. It's good to learn to recognise when someone is in a favorable position because they can get to a healthpack. It's also much more realistic that you can quickly get a pack and go back in like in a mid fight rather than suiciding.

Maybe my memory is shoddy, but Gravel Pit was by far worse than Turbine at that, if there is one map I wouldn't bring back that would the top of the list. I shit you not I once saw coffemonster sit on top of roof as a demoman with sticky bombs and booties, and he literally never touched the ground except the handful times he respawned, in which case he would immediately jump back on top of the roof and continue fighting. He did this for the entirety of the map, and I am still traumatized by this even to this very day.

Then I assume you'd think it'd also be more realistic if there was health packs in MGE? As you know, in MGE many players takes it very seriously and do their most dumb shit to win, which do not improve them, causes shitty habits at best. If I do scout vs solly in say badlands middle in MGE, realistically I could just run for the house to get a pack, I wouldn't realistically just fight a solly if I had 20 hp when I could quickly get a pack.

Same kind of people are also in DM, and these guys just run for the packs all the time because they don't want to lose their rank or don't enjoy dying even though it's an instant respawn. It's just better for everybody if the health packs are removed from DM servers, you already get rewarded for killing opponents by getting your HEALTH filled, the packs are pointless.

i have closed the forward spawn doors under mid so many times cuz no one knows that causes the problem

Instead of gully mid, what if it was 2nd point?

Pros:
+ Has high ground for soldiers
+ 5 possible spawn locations/entrances (Lobby/choke/flank/behind the big rock/upper(bats)

Cons:
- 3 big health packs in the vicinity
- easy to see everything if you have high ground?
- people would probably not play the point and will play bats instead?

The invisible walls on Gullywash as well as the little doors on Metalworks forward spawn are all because of the little snippet of code in SOAP DM that causes all doors to be forced open when the map loads. I honestly do not see any benefit from having the doors open since every single map is played on mid and there aren't even triggers to let you get into the forward spawns at mid anyway.

I don't know enough about how sourcemod works but it seems like you could probably just comment out the part that forces doors open and it would be fine unless other things are being called with it?

Nobody that I know has ever had fps problems because of the water on any map. It seems to be a common trend for people to blame fps issues on the most random shit, stuff like dustmotes on an earlier version of sunshine and water on basically any map that has it.

While the roof on B is pretty stupid I enjoyed the rest of the area for DM, there are always going to be people who will try to win DM by sitting on the roof and spamming chokes for 10 minutes. Granted a lot of the maps don't help (Gullywash and Badlands in specific).
