PaalsFzeroPaalsFzeroDid you two even read the whole thread? It's in here and if you read some of reddit you will see it too
If by "you two" you meant me, I have been going through it sporadically, and have seen numerous links to laws that I am too lazy to click on. I am not a legal expert, so I would have to take someones word on it. It seems that there is a plethora of evidence showing the breaking of Federal Law and very little defending them with their ToS.
If you wont read 7 pages on a thread, you really wouldn't read a whole law
The thread has been open for 20 hours, and has 200 posts. If you expect me, a person who has class, a life (heh), and other things to do to go through and click every link that i see and expect to understand a field which I have no understanding in, I am sorry. I was merely trying to understand what this emmawatson devil's advocate person was doing showing that irrelevant img.
unacceptable.

FzeroBrohamharbleuBlueberryVillainIncorrect, TFC thrived for a longtime, there was no LAN for the Platinum division, no money, no prizes, people played for the love of the game. TFC died eventually because it got old, valve stopped supporting it, times changed, and people moved on to other games. TF2s release sealed the fate.
sorry but that doesn't sound like a great situation to me. yes tfc may have sustained itself but i doubt it continued to grow. tf2 right now has been slowly but steadily growing over the past couple seasons with it being on the verge of its biggest season yet. if esea were to die that would change.
i don't see why the tf2 community is so up in arms over this. there has been ONE esea match played since the bitcoin thing was added. i highly doubt anybody from tf2 runs the esea client outside of matches so in all probably only 12 people were affected by this. the cs community has every right to be upset about this seeing as they use esea to scrim/pug but we don't. yes it was scummy of them to do but it really had no affect on most tf2 players.
The principle behind the fact that we are still all paying for a service provided by ESEA. It doesn't matter that we aren't effected by it in the slightest. They are a business for god sake man, its low of them to what they did and you should be pissy about it as well.
Under that thought, as long as it doesn't affect you directly then it shouldn't matter? What if your internet browser was doing that? Would that bother you? I mean I don't like to use google chrome for selling my information, even though it is better than Firefox
That was to Harbleu

Bitcoin to USD conversion rates are really volatile, 109$ between 29 bitcoins can easily be lost in an hour.

in this day and age when selling names, phone numbers, or email addresses or "leads" as those in the field would say is a multi million dollar business, everyone has an incentive to include malicious software that will transfer your personal information, I think its something 30% of android games and apps had some sort of information logging...
I'm not saying its acceptable for Esea to slip in he miner but no one should be surprised...

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/110/hr1525/text
So after seeing the error of my ways, I am now reading every thing in this read and clicking every link. I read this, went to a link on the top called "bill status" and found THIS: http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/110/hr1525
Since many will be like me and not read it, i shall say what this url contains. This bill was introduced into the house on May 14, 2007 and was passed in the house on May 22, 2007. It was subsequently dropped in the senate. So this IS NOT AN ACTUAL US LAW.
Please provide more proof.

I did a little research after replying earlier and found this. Looks pretty cool, I used to use the Comodo Firewall and didn't have any complaints. Looks like the browser comes with a free optional VPN (for every application, or just the browser... your choice). It looks like it's just Chrome but edited, similar to what I linked earlier.
Despite transferring over virtually everything from chrome, it seems to be having plugin compatibility issues, as they aren't running. I've only spent five minutes on it so it could very well be that I missed an option somewhere, i'll edit this post with what I find.
edit: I guess you just need to reinstall certain plugins. some work off the bat, others don't :(

Can you provide a link. I'm trying to fight my ignorance of cyber laws in America here. Also I actually dont understand this sentence. So far the only law linked is this http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/2701
Which is not completely applicable here since they are talking about "electronic communication hardware" and some wiley lawyer could portray computers as instead electronic computational hardware or something. If this is wrong correct me though.
EDIT: Oh nvm its not hardware that they are offending it is a SERVICE. I'm pretty sure this doesn't apply then. But I am no legal expert.

thank you for that. now upon looking at the wikipedia link this states that this act protects computers that are:
exclusively for the use of a financial institution or the United States Government, or any computer, when the conduct constituting the offense affects the computer's use by or for the financial institution or the Government; or
which is used in or affecting interstate or foreign commerce or communication, including a computer located outside the United States that is used in a manner that affects interstate or foreign commerce or communication of the United States...
So it still does not apply in this as I'm sure none of our computers are parts of a financial institution, unless they are somehow? Still no legal expert.

The law seems to not only apply to government-owned or traditional financial institution-owned computers, as you can see in the cases involving Sony and other companies.

the problem is you were originally saying they didn't break federal law not because there's no law that covers these actions, but because their ToS warned of it
but contract law doesn't work that way

TorbullWith the whole fervor around Bitcoin, we did conduct some internal tests with the Client on only two of our own, consenting administrators’ accounts to see how the mining process worked and determine whether it was a feature that we might want to add in the future. We thought this might be an exciting new tool that we could provide to our community. Ultimately, we decided that it was not.
In what fashion would bitcoin mining capabilities be an "exciting new tool to the community"? If someone wanted to mine bitcoins why wouldn't they just download it themselves?
