If "basically most things" means <=4 threads then you can't. You can't afford a faster CPU + 16GB RAM + mobo.
At least 120$ for the RAM, 70-80$ for the mobo, with the 200$ left you can only get a CPU that's marginally faster. The best you can get would barely count as an upgrade.

Yes, for streaming and other highly threaded programs you can just about get an R5 1600, but it's only going to be faster in a select few games, about the same speed in a couple and slightly slower in most.

An actual upgrade would be simply getting a used i5-4670(K) or 4690(K), maybe a cooler and Z87/Z97 mobo and overclock if you can get a K version. Should be able to afford additional RAM if you've got 2 sticks right now.
Or even get an i7-4770(K)/4771/4790(K), decent single threaded boost in case of the 4790K, negligible for all others, but more multithreaded performance >4 threads.

#2459
Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong. Did I mention wrong?
If it uses <=4 threads, which is most things, then there is no RyZen CPU that is noticably faster. Spending 400$ for no difference isn't worth it.

Marketing names are irrelevant.

I mostly play old games, but my old computer (7 years on - I named it Doris) is starting to really show its age. So it's time for an upgrade.

HOWEVER. Are there any major limitations I should look out for if I intend to hold it to windows 7 - like I said, I mostly play old games, and windows 10 can be kind of finicky with some of them. So I'll likely try to have win 10 for the new stuff, and a win 7 drive for the old stuff. Are there any major hardware limitations inherent to win 7 that I should look out for as I build that could cause that drive to be non-funcitonal within the build? Or is win7 still newish enough that companies haven't made their drivers ignore its existence?

Microsoft decided to not support new CPUs, starting with RyZen and Kaby Lake, on Windows 7 and 8(.1) anymore.
As official support does just about nothing, everyone ignored that.
Therefore Microsoft decided to block all Windows updates for those daring to use a new CPU on Windows 7/8(.1).
This has been widely considered a dick move.
So someone called "zeffy" made an unofficial patch that simply removes the functions that Windows uses to check before an update whether or not the CPU is "officially supported" on Windows 7/8(.1).
https://github.com/zeffy/wufuc
That should fix it.

Because fuck Microsoft, fuck them for pulling this bullshit, fuck Windows 10 and the horse it rode in on.

Hi, some time ago i asked advice on buying video card for i5 3570k, you recommended r7 260x, but i didnt end up buying it for various reasons. Now im looking for your recommendation again. Currently playing paladins, maybe for streaming too.

Google it.

#2465
Budget?
GPU doesn't help for streaming unless you're using NVENC/VCE in which case the quality will probably be worse than with x264 on a 3570K.

There's better SSDs. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/D28H99/sk-hynix-sl308-120gb-25-solid-state-drive-hfs120g32tnd-n1a2a
200R isn't really good value. Full ATX case doesn't make much sense anyway.
Not a fan of Razer either.

I just built a pc in one of these a few months ago and it was extremely easy to work with. Plus the side/top panels are all the same so you can put the window on whatever side you want.

Watch a video to get the order right. Don't forget the mobo standoffs.
Test with just CPU + mobo + RAM + PSU outside of the case to check for DOA parts. Especially if you're using the stock cooler you can just leave it on afterwards.

#2472
GTX 1050 then I'd say. Maybe 1050 Ti if you can find a cheap one. RX 470/570s are sadly too expensive at the moment

Cases are personal preference, due to asthetics. Dust filters should really be standard though at that price.
There's a few microATX options. There's the Core V21 that #2469 mentioned, which I usually don't recommend because the front panel ports are down low on the left side which means you basically have to put it on the right side of your desk and can't put it on the floor or anywhere else if you want to use those, and it's fairly wide which isn't ideal if your desk isn't that large. It's a good case though and rather cheap.
There's the N200, standard 40$ µATX case, 2 fans, mesh acting as dust filter on the front, can fit basically any GPU. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/T3rG3C/cooler-master-case-nse200kkn1
The usual Fractal Design Core 1000 USB 3.0 or 1100 and lots of other options.
A more expensive option with a window and some other stuff would be the Define Mini C. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/vBTrxr/fractal-design-define-mini-c-microatx-mid-tower-case-fd-ca-def-mini-c-bk

Just for comparision, you've seen 40$ cases that offer the same as the 200R, here's some 70$ cases to show you that the 200R really got no business being that expensive.
Phanteks ECLIPSE P400 https://pcpartpicker.com/product/xjZ2FT/phanteks-case-phec416pbk
Window, dust filters, RGB LEDs, much more interesting design, much easier to work with.
Fractal Design Define C https://pcpartpicker.com/product/gvbkcf/fractal-design-define-c-atx-mid-tower-case-fd-ca-def-c-bk
Sound dampening, dust filters, again easier to work with. While the P400 is going for "non-standard" lines to avoid being just another black cuboid the Define C does the "simple lines" thing really well. The 200R somehow attempts both and manages neither.

I don't care much about windows.
Windows 7 is Windows 7.
Windows 8.1 + classic shell is essentially a newer and slightly faster Windows 7 since you never have to look at the metro bullshit ever again. Except for some settings because Microsoft found the only way of making the control panel even more confusing by making some settings only accessible via the normal desktop and some only via metro.
Windows 10 is basically a fixed Windows 8(.1) and then a steaming pile of shit bolted on. Microsoft's way of getting more people to upgrade isn't to remove the shit but rather to put a gun against your head, which turns out not be an actual gun rather than them flinging more shit at you and is rather ineffective.

Basically Windows 7 if you want Windows 7, Windows 8.1 + classic shell if you can deal with the control panel bullshit and want something newer, Windows 10 if you want DX12 or want the newest.
Don't forget to apply the update fix mentioned above to 7/8.1.

#2460
Marketing names are irrelevant.

well what if I had like $600-700? could I upgrade to something better?

This isn't about multitasking. You don't need a CPU with 16 threads to have spotify running in the background.
Are you actually going to run a program that benefits from >4 threads/cores?

Hey Setsul. Just going about buying the parts for my computer, already have the 1080Ti. Decided on the 1950X, which is now available to preorder to Denmark, so do you have any motherboards/RAM you can recommend?
Here are the parts that are unchanged from before introducing the 1950X https://pcpartpicker.com/list/7rB3Yr

Are you sure you can afford the 1950X? When we did the math the worst case for the 1920X was just about affordable, but I haven't looked at Danish preorder prices yet.
TR4 mobos won't be cheap.
I can't recommend any mobos yet since there's neither prices nor reviews, because they haven't been released yet either.

#2487
Programs that benefit from >16 threads / >8 cores?
Trying to get rid of money?
Needing the largest CPU available (and I do mean physically largest)?
Idk, you decide.

Frankly the difference between the 1920X/1950X pricing is small enough that I may as well upgrade; 8099 DKK (£788 after 20% discount). As long as the mobo/RAM aren't too much more, then it's all still affordable. As for the mobo, are TR4 mobos the only ones compatible with the CPU? If so, how are people able to benchmark it?
E: Along with the Threadrippers, this site also seems to be selling TR4 mobos https://www.proshop.dk/threadripper

Ok, just making sure. Another 4 cores extra is obiously nice.

Yes, only TR4.

How are reviews with benchmarks that take days to run available on launch day? Just because you can't buy it yet and shops don't have it in stock yet (see your link) doesn't mean review sites don't have it already.
At this point most reviews are actually done and everyone is just waiting for the NDA date.
