#7 Team Immunity i49 perk distribution in TF2 General Discussion

Secondary bump - If you don't know how to get on IRC, here's a simple guide to joining the channel:

1. go to http://www.mirc.com/get.html & download & install
2. open MIRC
3. Set up your nickname/etc in the "connect" tab

http://i.imgur.com/EhliLaq.jpg

4. Go to the servers tab and select any gamesurge (or quakenet) server. It may sometimes screw up so you might have to change from EU/random/NA to the other and vice versa at times.

5. Connect
6. After connecting, a little box will pop up. You can either enter the channel here shown in the image, or close the box and simply type /join #thankyoui49

http://i.imgur.com/wBlqn63.jpg

Done.

Alternatively, if you would not like to download software, you could use mibbit (http://mibbit.com)

1. Click: Launch app
2. On the 'connect' drop down box, select gamesurge.
3. Set your nickname
4. In channel, set the channel to #thankyoui49

If you're from europe and would like to join the quakenet channel via webchat
1. webchat.quakenet.org
2. choose your username
3. in channels, set the channel to #thankyoui49
4. join server

#1 Team Immunity i49 perk distribution in TF2 General Discussion

Quoted from the thread on ozfortress

Hey guys,

I've had a lot of time to think about the best way to satisfy the 149 people that helped us get to i49, and while I can happily assume responsibility for the 5 other people in iM to guarantee that all of your perks will be distributed - it is incredibly difficult to contemplate coordinating a match-up between one of our players and a donator for each and every perk.

So here is how things are going to work:

I've registered the irc channel #thankyoui49 on irc.gamesurge.net, which we'll be using to facilitate all of our perk distributions. If everyone that donated could idle in this channel it would be amazing, as the way I intend to run this process (at least until its obvious we need to switch to more direct means for the last handful of people) is pretty straightforward. When one of us has some spare time we'll post in the irc with a simple message along the lines of:

"Hey, I have time to do X one hour packages," or "Signing weapons" etc.

The first X people that respond will get the spot, and after some pretty straightforward verification you'll get your perk and be crossed off the list.

Those of you with combined perks or the six one-hour packages - you won't have to receive everything at once, we can partially complete your perks to suit our + your availability. For the One Hour package I also don't expect you to list the 6 people that you want to receive the mentoring straight away - you can either let me know through pm/steam or preferably just post in the irc/pm through irc with who you want to receive a perk and then grab them into the channel.

I haven't set a time-limit on this process, purely because I think it's less effective if we rush the delivery of these to the point where we burn out/stop giving each person the attention owed/etc. We'll do our best to get these perks to you as fast as possible.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks again,

aporia

Pretty happy with the changes overall. Only thing I don't like as much now is the train on 2nd. I'm not sure what you could do with it (probably don't remove it), but it's still pretty hard to see into the yard/"green" area without being on the catwalk area near lobby or some other high ground. Unless it's intended, then *shrug*.

Good work with last & mid though.

*yawn* I thought you'd be done by now. Is the real reason that you want the last word? Please let him have it June else he wont stop posting.

If it's "not something that should have great consideration", then you really should just stop posting. You should also read through all your posts, as you pretty much keep typing the exact same thing every time.

RadmanyukiHow many games do you think take into mind what the spectator thinks, let alone values it higher over competitive players' opinions? Lets say I were bored of seeing Batrider, Dark Seer, Kotl, the usual suspects in Dota 2: If I messaged valve and were like "Hey, you should remove these heroes from the game because they make the game boring for me as a spectator", how do you think they (and the players) would respond? It's not the most ideal analogy, but it should clearly show why spectator's opinions should not be considered in games/sports/etc.Bad example. Valve would nerf those heroes into the ground, and buff new ones that havent been a part of the meta. Case in point, Kotl was pick/banned constantly, so he got nerfed. Now we dont see him as often.

Shadow demon was picked every game, so he got nerfed. you see him a lot less now.

Batrider nerf is incoming.

A LOT of dota changes are made with the spectators in mind.

This is Valve we are talking about, not Riot Games. Also, it's a difference between the heroes being 'imbalanced', vs a spectator getting bored about seeing hero x time and time again. Please read what I actually wrote :)

I don't see a furion nerf anytime soon.

TheManWithNoNameup front: i do not play competitive tf2 at all -- either 6s or Highlander. if i found tf2 when i was in college or grad school, things would be different but i just do not have the time now. i do make time to watch as much TF2 content as possible -- from Fully Charged to TFTV casts to TFTV EU games to random HL games that are casted either on TFTV or POV (such as xalox's casts in the HL Nations cup)

----------------------------------------

i am not saying it should be a huge consideration (if you totally ignore players you lose your player base) but ignoring the viewers/casual in these kinds of discussions (rule/map sets) are one of the things that keep TF2 from growing

example: look, i understand many players do not like gravelpit...but if viewers love it and it is not difficult to cast -- can't that be considered? let's be honest, a casual viewer DOES NOT enjoy watching a match of cp_metalworks. they have not played it, they do not know the map and it not particularly enjoyable to watch.

am i saying that comp tf2 should stick to maps played in pubs? heck no! cp_process is a great example of a map that has been played in 6s that (thanks to becoming an official map) is now played in a ton of pubs and is not particularly difficult to understand.

i do think that the standardization of rulesets/mapsets would be beneficial for casual viewers (and would help bring more people into the game) -- but focusing only on the thoughts of only those currently in 6s when these kinds of discussions occur will do nothing to help the game grow.

How many games do you think take into mind what the spectator thinks, let alone values it higher over competitive players' opinions? Lets say I were bored of seeing Batrider, Dark Seer, Kotl, the usual suspects in Dota 2: If I messaged valve and were like "Hey, you should remove these heroes from the game because they make the game boring for me as a spectator", how do you think they (and the players) would respond? It's not the most ideal analogy, but it should clearly show why spectator's opinions should not be considered in games/sports/etc.

I daresay if there were something that were changed to a viewer's dismay, I'm sure they'd suck it up and keep watching/following the game, because they enjoy the game as a whole, and won't get upset over one minor change. I'm sure a few people were upset about T9 not being in official map pools in QL - doesn't mean it "hurt the games growth" or people QQ'ed and stopped following the game.

After all - I wouldn't be surprised if highlander players thought the same way when a 6s player that doesn't play highlander (but sometimes watches it) thinks said 6s player is a moron when they suggested that unlock x should be removed from highlander because they found it boring when spectating.

#72 Are you proud of being a (competitive) gamer? in Off Topic

Same with a lot of others, I don't go out of my way telling people that I play videogames (competitively, at that), or have in the past. Though, when a lot of people (including family) knew that I was going to i49, a lot of them started to just google about myself, the event, and TF2 in general.

A lot of my family and friends watched the event, contacted me regularly saying stuff like "You top damaged that last game nice work". It was really awesome to have the support from people that usually aren't supportive of 'gamer habits'. Get back from trip and I get told by family & friends alike that "I didn't know that you were at that level in your games" and such, and "better luck next year!"

Pretty awesome to have that support, and I feel kinda proud now (despite only getting 4th), but my team and I are now hungry for the title @ i52.

Coming 4 u Seb.
