#1 CS:GO update for 12/9/15 (12/10/15 UTC, 1.35.1.3) in CSGO General Discussion

Via the CS:GO blog:

Fixed exploits with the R8 Revolver, including being able to fire during freezetime or defusal, and the ability to hold the primary hammer back indefinitely.
Fixed a disappearing smoke exploit.
– Fixed a timeouts-related exploit.
– Fixed competitive UI flickering at the end of rounds.
– Fixed a regression in logaddress_add to allow DNS hostname resolve.
– Fixed a rare game server crash after replay.
– R8 Revolver now correctly shows up in weapon_fire events.
– Added map mode to game stats integration.

Rumor has it:

- Some miscellaneous items_game stuff: https://github.com/SteamDatabase/GameTracking/commit/711943f7602b4f125e45deafa9d753bc3a2c30e3

- And some other deep stuff: https://github.com/SteamDatabase/GameTracking/commit/05fa411e2622ffc1b1006a42c85d889ddbc83a32

- Size is ~10 MB

------------------------

Warning! If you are on a Mac and you're still using Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6), be advised that Steam client support was killed off for Snow Leopard effective November 10th. Mac OS X Lion (10.7) or newer is now required to acquire future Steam client updates, but if you're stuck on Snow Leopard for whatever reason, you should be fine for a while and you should still be able to play CS:GO still, just that you won't get updates for your Steam client. However, a future CS:GO update could move the minimum Steam client version up to one past this date. If possible, make arrangements to move to at least Lion or Mountain Lion, preferably Mavericks or El Capitan, otherwise, you may be left behind if and possibly when a future CS:GO update moves the minimum version up past the November 10th update.

This warning will be repeated for the next 2 posts.

That thread was already EOL before it even started, good luck acquiring a new item schema update.

#1 MAJOR CS:GO update for 12/8/15 (Winter Update) in CSGO General Discussion

Via the CS:GO blog:

Valve[WINTER UPDATE]
– Slight adjustments to Holiday Cheer.
– Gifts are now available for purchase. Gift leaderboards will be displayed until January 15th.
– Added the Revolver Case.
– Added several new community sticker capsules, currently available as offers.
– Added Service Medals for 2016. Players achieving Global General rank after December 31st will receive the new year’s medal.
[R8 REVOLVER]
Added a new secondary weapon, the R8 Revolver, which occupies the Desert Eagle loadout slot.
— Note: The R8 Revolver will become usable in-game when the back-end servers restart.
[GAMEPLAY]
– In Competitive Matchmaking times are now 1:55 and 0:40 for round and C4, respectively. These are also the new times for CSGO Major Championships.
– Adjusted recovery time on the AK47, M4A4, and M4A1-S assault rifles to reduce the range at which spraying is preferable to tapping/bursting.
– Increased move inaccuracy on pistols: Elites, Fiveseven, Glock, P2000, P250, Tec9, USP, CZ75a.
– Added team timeouts to Competitive Matchmaking, which can be called with a vote. Default is 60 seconds, set by mp_team_timeout_time.
[KILLER REPLAY]
– Added new Killer Replay to Casual and Demolition modes. GOTV must be active on the server to enable the feature.
– Menu option Help/Options->Game Settings->Automatic Killer Replay will turn replay off.
– Several convars are available to customize the Killer Replay. Search for ‘replay’ in the console for a complete list.
[COMMUNITY]
– Game servers and GOTV relays not logged in to a persistent game server account with a Game Server Login Token (GSLT) will only allow clients to connect from the same LAN.
– Community servers can now be only connected by their real public IP or their internal RFC1918 address.
– To create a GSLT, visit the GSLT creation utility here: http://steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers
– Each GSLT is restricted for use on one dedicated server instance only, and should be passed on command line with +sv_setsteamaccount THISGSLTHERE -net_port_try 1
– Added an option to report servers for misrepresenting players’ inventory and/or rank.
– Game servers will now display their SteamID to an operator’s status request in the server console.
– Game servers with GOTV enabled and GOTV relays that need to support external clients connecting on GOTV port must set tv_advertise_watchable 1
[MISC]
– Users’ options are now stored independently in a Steam account-local data folder and can be different across Steam accounts on the same machine.
– Administrators setting up tournament Active Directory logons with Roaming Profiles can create a directory inside the user’s roaming profile storage and expose that location to the game by setting an environment variable USRLOCALCSGO=%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\csgo
– Video options for shadow quality, model/texture detail, effect detail, shader detail, and texture filtering mode can now be autodetected at startup to adjust for multitasking with other background applications. These video options can also be permanently set by the user to remain the same regardless of other background applications detected during game launch.
– Minor sound mix tweaks. First person footsteps slightly quieter, third person footstep volume remains unchanged.
– Highlights and Lowlights now transition smoothly between clips.
– Lowlights will now identify the target using the same visual indicator as the Killer Replay.
[MAPS]
– Fixed some surfaces playing the wrong footstep sounds in Mirage, Overpass and Train.
– Fixed a DM spawnpoint in de_dust where the player would get stuck.
[STEAM CONTROLLER]
– Made toggle crouch work
– Fixed several bugs
[GAME STATE INTEGRATION]
– CS:GO’s game state can be relayed remotely, allowing third parties to integrate their services with the game. For example, game state integration was used at the CS:GO Major Championship at DreamHack Cluj-Napoca to present special stage effects (e.g., lighting and pyrotechnics) during a match.
– For details on how to set up your service to use game state integration, visit the wiki page here: https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Counter-Strike:_Global_Offensive_Game_State_Integration
[SERVERS]
– Added official servers in Hong Kong

Rumor has it:

- Note that due to the enhanced user-based settings storage introduced, all video settings were reset. You may notice some drops in FPS

- GuideZ of reddit posted a side-by-side comparison of the Desert Eagle and the R8's stats in the buy menu

- Here are the new item images in this item schema update: https://github.com/SteamDatabase/SteamTracking/commit/99603261327fe6d24be25ac9226d0f4b97a4199a

- For the 2016 Service Medal, there are a possible theoretical total of 6 times to claim it
- If you're capable of reaching level 6, talk about dedication

- Lots of game state stuff: https://github.com/SteamDatabase/GameTracking/commit/d19ea4853d66e1df3edf7cb0721d22a02ed2436c

- Steam datagrams, currently used in Dota 2 particularly after its Source 2 transition, appear to be making their way over to CS:GO: https://github.com/SteamDatabase/GameTracking/commit/91cb56f29121e23c8825583f6afea30bdb806447

#172 TF2 update for 12/2/15 in TF2 General Discussion
joejoe347if they force viewmodels I will actually flip a shit.

This is the one thing I would flip out over, and it would actually be worth it to flip out over.

Turywickedplayer494I'm personally glad that DX9 is a requirement. DX8 is extremely antiquated (it's from even before the Windows XP days). Sure you might complain "b-b-but my FPS!", but do you see CS:GO players playing on DX8 at Valve-sponsored tournaments? Didn't think so.
My laptop struggles to play TF2 at a constant 40 FPS, that is with dx 80, a insanely good FPS config, AND a resolution of 854x480, if I was forced to play on DX 90, tf2 would be unplayable for me

Newsflash: I started off with TF2 (and PC gaming beyond little Flash games in general) on an old AMD Athlon system from around 2006-2007. I didn't bother with DirectX 8 even though I had a painful 10 FPS. Yes, 10. 20 or so at best, but usually 10-15. I could have used DirectX 8, but I didn't because I knew that Valve could have killed it off at any point either partially (like now) or completely.

After I decided to be a jackass and try putting Windows 7 on that same desktop, the motherboard gave up the ghost. I had to resort to playing on a laptop intermittently with some 4000 series AMD integrated GPU. I had most settings at high or a few steps short of high, and it was perfectly playable. There was also another laptop that I could have used (it has some Intel Centrino), but didn't because I didn't even want to chance getting the same stuff again.

Then, I built my current desktop, and 3 years later, I'm still happily chugging along at ease with everything at maximum on DX9. The only sorts of "trouble" I've had at all with a 3570K and a 660 Ti is only just recently with Just Cause 3, but even then it's "playable" (less so than that AMD laptop in terms of estimated frames, for reference). 30 FPS "playable", maybe not the "pleasant" of 60 FPS+, but still perfectly playable with most things high or a step or two away from it.

If you lot are having problems, maybe it might be some power-saving hippie shit that's on by default or something? Check your motherboards and Windows power settings too, make sure your mobo's on at least "normal" and Windows is on high performance.

#31 TF2 update for 12/2/15 in TF2 General Discussion
Bonafidedeetrwickedplayer494Feel free to take shits on me all you want, but the fact of the matter is Valve can't afford to keep supporting your antiquated setups forever. If anything you should be thankful that they even bothered supporting XP and DX8 past 2013.
Yeah except I have a 4670k and a 780 Ti and I don't get 144 fps with a dx9 fps config. That's by no means an antiquated setup. The game is just shittily optimized and removing one of the major ways to get better fps is dumb.
Than that's something wrong at your end, I run dx9 with a similar but slightly less good setup and I'm getting 290+ always

Agreed, slightly worse on paper: a 3570k and a 660 Ti, I'm perfectly fine.

#20 TF2 update for 11/17/15 in TF2 General Discussion
fade-i literally can't even open walkway

is this because of autoexec/fps cfgs, unupdated huds, or just the game being broken?

I would wager un-updated HUDs.

#1 TF2 update for 11/17/15 in TF2 General Discussion

Via the Steam store:

Valve- Added beta support for Steam Controllers. Use the Steam Big Picture interface to select and configure your preferred controller mapping. Controls operate in one of four modes, automatically selected by the game as needed. You can customize the controller layout for each one independently to suit your taste, or just use the defaults.
- “In-Game” operates during regular gameplay. Use the left stick to move, and the right trackpad plus gyro to look around.
- “Menus” turns the right trackpad into a virtual mouse pointer for use in navigating menus (use the triggers to mouse click).
- “In-Game During Popup” covers popup menus that occur during gameplay, like Spy’s Disguise Kit, Engineer’s Build PDA, and the Taunt menu.
- “Spectator” is active while spectating and before respawn.

Rumor has it:

- HUD modders: as a result, you've got lots of new files to play with: https://github.com/SteamDatabase/GameTracking/commit/166f2339d2762db17bca634d35e7b7a22eb29030

#1 CS:GO update for 11/10/15 (11/11/15 UTC, 1.35.1.0) in CSGO General Discussion

Via the CS:GO blog:

Valve[SOUND]
– Increased fidelity and weight of jump land sound.
– Landing sounds now play an additional sound depending on the surface.
– 3rd person footsteps are now slightly louder in relation to weapon sounds for increased positional clarity. (Further volume compression may be possible by enabling “sound normalization,” “volume equalization,” or a similar setting in your audio playback device properties)
– New surface footstep sounds to reduce repetition and phasing as well as increasing listenability and positional clarity.
— Concrete
— Wood
— Rubber
— Snow
— Glass
— Grass
— Mud
— Dirt
— Solid Metal
— Metal Grate
— Metal Chainlink
– Fixed a bug where give_ammo sound was playing for every shotgun shell insertion animation.
– Minor volume mix adjustments
– (Note: For players using virtual surround sound, please be sure to set the audio settings in CSGO to 5.1 speakers.)
[MISC]
– Awp now always un-zooms during reload animation
– Misc player animation CPU performance optimizations
– Overview icons can now be scaled with the convar mapoverview_icon_scale
[STEAM CONTROLLER]
– Game now requires Steam Client to be updated as of Oct 14 2015 or later.
– Added native support for the Steam Controller
[ DEDICATED SERVERS ]
– Added concommand sv_setsteamaccount to specify Game Server Login Token. To create a GSLT go to
http://steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers

Rumor has it:

- aparatis of reddit is uploading videos showcasing the new footstep sounds on various areas of some maps

- If you use a custom font in CS:GO, it may have been reset to the default one

- xPaw (one of the people that maintains SteamDB) shows off the DreamHack Cluj-Napoca trophies for participating teams

- There's also apparently a 2nd level attainable for 2015 Service Medals

- Here's the item schema update, which contains the trophies: https://github.com/SteamDatabase/SteamTracking/commit/99da08332c92edcc2a820667d1bd365586cf7feb
- Not necessarily caused by this update (or this item schema update) specifically, but still worth mentioning: if you live in South Africa, Saudi Arabia, or the United Arab Emirates, Valve recently implemented localized pricing on the Steam storefront. CS:GO items purchased from the store will be charged in your local currency, which will also mean that what you deposit from a debit/credit card will be what you get as there will no longer be any US conversions applied from your card
- If you're in any of the above countries and want to keep track of how things are priced, be sure to watch Dota 2's item schema, which will contain conversion data and provide a bit of a heads-up for impending changes
