soldier jumped beside/above you before you could confirm the stab on the demo
he HAD to be above you because before you kill the demo his cow mangler falls down from the sky.
so probably the soldier was jumping to valley and landed on your head, and the bottom of his hitbox was in backstab range
either that or he noclipped inside of you
