#3 [server] badwater.pub (EU and NA) in Requests

Thanks Slin!

Is there any reason why the player count and map aren't showing up?

EDIT: Maybe Enigma's code is expecting the port to be present to check? It's 27015 for both.
Also, EU is showing up for NA, AUZ and ASIA :)

Server issues should be fixed, very sorry for the inconvenience!

#21 badwater.pub - No Waiting, No BS, Just Vanilla in Projects

Thanks for reminding me, nurfu, I did it.

My plan was to grow badwater.pub with its name, add some non-interfering features (chat bans, server stats (not player stats because that makes people try too hard for stats), some monitoring stuff for me) , and maybe try reproducing more than just badwater, say upward, or complete payload servers.
I would do it if the servers were populated more than anything. Right now, the only funding thing that bothers me is the price of the NA server compared to the EU server, the latter one is absolutely cheap and high quality, I'm not sure I'll be able to ever find anything similar in NA.
I'm really glad you'd be down to help me financially, but considering this project is very (very) young, I'm gonna hold off on accepting donations, I don't want to feel pressured to provide, etc. The thought is very much appreciated, though.

#1 [server] badwater.pub (EU and NA) in Requests

Hello,

I've already posted and announced in the Projects forum, I'll let you read the OP, if you don't:
badwater.pub is a small project aiming to provide a pre-MYM valve pub experience on badwater.

The EU server is hosted by online.net in Paris, available at: connect badwater.pub
The NA server is hosted by digitalocean.com in NYC1, available at: connect na.badwater.pub

Thanks!

Hey, I just set up a server in NYC!

Use the appropriate flag on http://badwater.pub , or just type this in console:

connect na.badwater.pub

Thanks :)

#13 badwater.pub - No Waiting, No BS, Just Vanilla in Projects

Hello again,

Thank you again adysky, mario, unskilled and everybody else for playing tonight, that was great indeed :)
Thanks Blithe and yttrium for the info/offer, I'll probably check those out if the other solutions I found aren't as good as I thought.

I too hope this gets populated, and if it does regularly, I will definitely run more servers with more options, payload/upward/goldrush are requests that have come up often so far.
EDIT: Actually, if the servers are doing great this weekend as well, I'll set up upward.pub :)

@vibhavp: gtld are great

https://static-cdn.jtvnw.net/emoticons/v1/1/1.0

I found the server to be iffy with 24 players online (cpu load was ~1.10 for an hour and a half), and sadly this is probably the best they could offer (they offer more cores, but of the same type of CPU, tf2 server is single-threadded). I'm considering limiting to 22 or 20 players so that the server never feels iffy to anybody, ever. Thoughts?

EDIT 2: sorry, whoever tried to bruteforce my ssh :/
root:~# grep "Password" /etc/ssh/sshd_config
PermitEmptyPasswords no
PasswordAuthentication no

#1 badwater.pub - No Waiting, No BS, Just Vanilla in Projects

Hello,

Meet Your Match has greatly changed the TF2 ecosystem, one of those changes personally affected me.
My biggest interaction with the game, when not playing competitively, was playing Valve public servers, mostly on pl_badwater.
Sadly, those servers were removed to make place for the great Casual+Competitive systems.
That's why I'm trying to bring this experience back by launching a small and simple project:

badwater.pub is a Vanilla Team Fortress 2 Public Community Server, running 24/7 Badwater, with nocrits, nospread, fixedspread, no restrict_aspect_ratio_fov, user votes include kick, scramble and classlimit 3.

The IPs are eu.badwater.pub and na.badwater.pub.

I will be as available and transparent as I can, feel free to heckle.
Oh, and of course, no ads/donations ;)

Wow, Check it out!

#2 ToTH needs a web dev in Off Topic

Are you looking for a web developer or a web designer?

Basically, I could pretty much set up an app that could run the website and it's components, and the contents of the pages, but I have no skill in the matter of designing pages, etc.

I potentially could do the job you need, but I'll need somebody to draw things a pretty way.

Feel free to contact me.

Am I the only one that find most of the female characters are bringing way more stupid QQ drama than ever needed? I skipped most of the conversations involving Skyler because of the cringe it induced me.

#3 What would you expect from an organic server host? in TF2 General Discussion

First of all, thanks a lot for answering.

mana- Having stuff like TFTrue, SourceMod installed and configured the way we like it (whatever settings your region uses, for TFTrue, and proper access for SourceMod)

I was thinking about let people chose between TFTrue and the combo MM:Src/SrcMod on signup, or when the server is requested to be created.
Could you be more precise about the settings? I don't really see what you're trying to point out.
As for access to the SourceMod, I guess you've meant the plugins, I'll be providing with an FTP of the server(s).

- Making sure the server doesn't do anything stupidly unexpected (changing maps even though a scrim/PCW/match is still being played HEH OOPS)

As for control over the servers, the user will be the one doing stuff, I'll set up and provide help until things get stable, and will help when needed, but I won't take input on the server.

- UP TO DATE maps. It pains me to see how many servers still run cp_process_rc2 and cp_metalworks_rc3 (hi Fog).
- Configs, of course.

Sure, I'll provide with config packages, and the few custom maps that are played often.. User would have to uploads the maps/configs to the FTP when I'm not available, such things as these. Since the dedicated server used is shared, the FTP's speeds are capped.

- Possibly a custom config for PCWs (from what I've seen, PCWs run first to 5 with a 30 min limit)

User can do that :).

- Answering stupid questions with "did you do rcon_password password first?"

As long as I'm online, that should be good to go.

- STV running and working, no question (HEH OOPS #2)

STV demo recording will be enabled and available for sure, but STV listening to clients might be something else. I'll have to see with that.

- Making sure TFTrue automatically uploads logs.

The feature can be enabled, but I won't make a script to check if the logs were automatically uploaded. If anything wrong happens, the logs are available on the FTP.

- Even better, having a web host that publicly lists the demo associated with it and a link of the logs.

I'll see what I can do.

I was thinking about running an automatic Steam update every day at 6AM-ish? Would that be bad? The point is to make the server restart every to keep fresh, as you would open your windows in the morning, and make it hit two birds with one stone, checking if TF2 has been updated.

Any thoughts on the prices, and such? I was thinking about keeping the servers "private", as in not used to a 24/7 pub. I still don't know.

But thanks a lot for the answers!
