#18 iT Servers Shutting Down in TF2 General Discussion

If someone can get me the surf/bhop mod I will do my best to get a public surf server up. There are quite a few jump servers outside of iT's but I don't know of many or any surf servers.

#596 ESEA S15 NA Open Happenings/Predictions in TF2 General Discussion

So since London is a lazy bum and didn’t want to do match preds for the bubble teams, I decided that I’d throw my completely unwanted opinions around some. I was wrong about Lonely Hearts last night, but hopefully (maybe?) these preds will be a little better.

For all intents and purposes, the 13 teams that have 10 wins already are safe for playoffs. If UP loses out and doesn’t take many rounds (their magic number is 7 RF to clinch a playoff spot, if my math is right) then they could be out, but everyone else in that top 13 basically has their ticket punched at this point and are just playing for seeding. That leaves eight teams for three spots (sorry, This is a Team. You could still go 10-6 but you don’t have enough RF to get a spot). All of the matches matter for the The Smouldering Remains, Chillin in North Korea, The Salt Miners, Ingenuity, Besaid Aurochs, The Heart Breakers, All In Without Allen, and Theunforgiven, and for the latter three, all of their matches are elimination matches. Lose and you’re out. For this post, I’m gonna do a quick prediction and write-up for every match between these eight teams. There are four such matches, and if you love open as much as I do (jk, nobody loves open as much as I do) you’ll be tuning in for all of them.

Ingenuity vs. Chillin in North Korea
9:30 PM EST, Tuesday December 3

The first match between bubble teams (tonight!) should be one of the closer matches of the late season. The core of Chillin has been playing together for a while now, and while individually they aren’t necessarily DM superstars, the team cohesion is fun to watch. Tery is absurdly good at staying alive, perhaps better than any other medic in open, though sometimes it can be to the detriment of his team. If he stuck in a little longer and risked more deaths, his team could have the edge to win more fights. All of Chillin tends to play in this more passive style, limiting deaths and preferring to hold the next point back rather than risk wiping and losing two points out of it. All of Chillin, that is, except for Deep. Deep has some of the most creative and intense bombs I’ve seen out of an open roamer, and though he’s often left to his own devices as the rest of his team leaves him in to force a medic, he’s as successful as many roamers who get more team support. This style does lead to some pretty hilarious death totals, however, including at least one match where Deep had more than double the deaths of the next team member.

Contrast this methodical style to the DM-rich band of MGE superstars on Ingenuity. Unfortunately Ingenuity had to play a match that they probably should have won against STOOP Nation 5 v 6 recently, leading to a 4-1 loss. This has created some roster turmoil for the Paul and the boys, who have to decide if they want to keep playing with a demoman who misses matches with no notice, on top of very recently replacing a scout starter as well. They’ve been scrimming hard, however, and we may see a new-look Ingenuity in these upcoming matches, potentially with Hippo on pocket and Paul moving to demoman. Hippo is not on the roster yet, however, and we’ll see if those changes are set in stone or if Paul will have to do more roster tinkering before tonight, possibly playing with backups (something Ingenuity is used to at this point). Watch out for Kino and Polar on the flank; both players have very strong DM and can definitely overpower the Chillin flank on DM alone if they’re on.

If it weren’t for the roster issues facing Ingenuity, I may have predicted a different outcome, and I think that Chillin’s passive style against such a DM-heavy team could lead to some of those impossible-to-push-out snakewater last holds. That said, I’m going to go with Chillin in North Korea over Ingenuity, 5-4

After I’m done working, I’d like to write up the two bubble vs. bubble matchups that are happening on Thursday, so stay tuned if you’re interested at ALL in reading way too many words about The Smouldering Remains vs. The Heart Breakers or Ingenuity vs. Theunforgiven.

As always, feel free to talk as much shit as you want after these predictions turn out hopelessly incorrect.

My students might, but they have to listen to me talk most of the time anyways, so I'm sure some clicking wouldn't be that bad o:

On topic, I have reds and love them for gaming and general internet browsing stuff, but when I have to type anything longer than a few sentences, my typing feels mushy. Whenever I'm doing work stuff at home I prefer to switch back to my old membrane keyboard. I'm sure I'd love blues or browns at work where I'm typing most of the day.

#91 The Mouse/Mousepad Thread (last updated Sep. 9, 2013) in Hardware

I might have asked this in this thread already, but I'm in the market for a mouse again and I wanted to get some opinions.

I have really big hands and have had to deal with cramping after extended mouse use for as long as I can remember. I used an old Death Adder for a long time and it was too small. About 8 months ago I switched to a Corsair M60 and it feels pretty good but is still a little smaller than I'd like. What's the biggest mouse you have used? At this point I'm more concerned with comfort than performance, for the most part.

triplemintI still think Lonely Hearts will win a match and make it to playoffs. Sure their schedule is hard but they're a great team with really smart players. Pretty sure you're underestimating them, Owl.

I don't doubt that they could win a match at all. However, I'd give them a less than 50% shot in each of their remaining matches (against mesr's team, budsquad, and medical geniuses). I think that most of us can agree that Budsquad is the better team so I won't go into that matchup much. The other two matchups, however, are just bad for Lonely Hearts in particular. Mesr's team is filled with players with a ton of experience who won't fall for a lot of the +fwd stuff that sherman and romeo do on the flank. Lonely Hearts relies too much on their DM and doesn't have a great connection between the combo and flank (I haven't seen every match that LH has played this season, but this seems to be the case especially in their most recent matches). Medical Geniuses, on the other hand, has one of the two scout combos in open who I think can actually outplay sherman and romeo on even ground in Hugh and Stoch. Add to that Xan on demo on a strong demo map like snakewater, and I think MD takes that one in the 5-3 range.

Lonely Hearts making playoffs I believe comes down to the match against Masturb8 to Anime on viaduct, and while I think it'll be a great match, I have mesr's team taking it.

All that said, I certainly wouldn't be surprised if they win any of the three matches. All 6 of the players on that team are very very good at TF2.
