I think this is a bit exaggerated and I don't know for SURE it will backfire, but I definitely don't think it will go anywhere or reduce trump's popularity that much

the best case for impeachment, aside from it generally being a moral thing to do to a president so cartoonishly corrupt, is that it could potentially offer the dems the ability to air dirty laundry on televised hearings a la brett kavanaugh

but I HIGHLY doubt this ukraine story is capturing peoples' imaginations the same way a story about rape would. I mean this shit isn't in the top 50 worst things trump has ever done

also doesn't help that pelosi, adam schiff et al. keep voting to give trump more money and power (NDAA, ICE funding, patriot act, etc.)
