I think the most underrated factor in the gender gap between boys and girls in gaming, as someone in here alluded to, is the average age at which people started pc gaming/playing certain genres of games/playing competitively. it seems to me like a lot of female gamers started later/never had a good desktop pc/didn't really get into fps until later in life, at least on average.
anecdotally, I'd say the cisgender women I know in this game tend to be much much older on average than the guys, and much more likely to have a crap pc/laptop or have had one previously
