#6 TF2esports Episode #3 This Friday! in TF2 General Discussion

Yeah since the old thread is RIP heres all the questions I had after the last episode rewritten so it doesn't sound like a 12 year old wrote them

We are now a couple of weeks into matchmaking. How does the panel feel about the current XP system for rankings, and more specifically, is *someone's* rank something they should be proud of?

As we get closer to the next ESEA season, discussion about the current state of the whitelist is obviously going to come up. What does the panel think *should* happen, and what do you predict *will* happen?

How does the panel feel the community has done in convincing MM players that ESEA ruleset 6’s is the way to play TF2, and how difficult does the panel think it is for someone with 0 non-mm experience to enter into the comp tf2 scene?

How many of the non-sponsored Invite teams could be sponsored, and of those teams, how many does the panel think have actively looked for sponsorships?

Is TF2 competitive on an upward trend, or a downward trend?

#20 For the casters - Suggestions in TF2 General Discussion

One problem with online casts is that(and this is near unavoidable) unless the casters have a really good feel for each other and have worked together for a long time, its hard for casters not to talk over each other. Its very hard to do analysis well as a caster if they have to be ready to drop into PBP at any time. The absolute best(IMO) setup would be to have the PBP guy casting the observer feed, while the analysis guy is casting both the observer and his own feed.

One of the most jaring things as a viewer is when casters are talking about something that I can't see, or the camera isn't focused on. It doesn't matter how good your casters are, if they're talking about something I'm not seeing with them.

LeyrI know that this isnt necessarily how development teams work but i find it interesting that they release this huge casual event before addressing some of the issues that make the game difficult to accept competitively.

Pretty much what you said. Basically its the Law of Diminishing returns+ Having enough developers where you can have multiple projects going on without harming the status of any other project.

After reading this thread it seems like nobody would have any major problems with this. Thoughts?

MarxistI feel mostly ambivalent about the whitelist as it is - I don't think anything particular great would be gained by allowing any of the new items - which is why I assume nothing has changed in 2 years. micspamIdea: What if we stop treating it like a whitelist and start treating it like a blacklist?

flufDoesn't ETF2L have a tourney were they try new items and maps? Why don't we do that.

That doesn't work if nobody tries

ErenJayConsoleThis might just be my inexperience at play here, but I feel like the caber could be unbanned. To my knowledge it's not that great after the nerf a little while back, I think the explosion attack does 90ish damage and you only get to use it once unless you die or resub. Even then it's still a melee attack and on the demo at that. I personally don't see it being very broken, however this might just be me being retarded and not seeing how powerful it is or something.it would be dumb to play against, if you were a scout and you died on 90 hp when the demo is on 10 hp and had no stickies or pipes loaded you would be pretty salty.

How the fuck would a demo with no pipes or sickies loaded be in range of a scout who hasn't already killed him

#7 half shotgun, half gunboats in TF2 General Discussion
TurinI'm not necessarily saying it would be overpowered, however the decision of "should i run gunboats or shotgun this life" adds a layer of knowledge and experience to the game that would make the game easier to play if removed. Maybe you run gunboats to a mid and for most fights, but when on the defensive or when you need the firepower you run shotgun.

Just having a mix of both, even perfectly balanced, would remove that decision from the game.

Yep. The reason we have 2 soldier 2 scout 1 demo 1 med is because its the most well rounded composition that can do well in pretty much every situation. This weapon is the 2 soldier 2 scout 1 demo 1 med of soldier secondary unlocks.

I agree with alot of this whitelist, but why have panic attack banned and solemn vow unbanned?

Because I think panic attack is *just* powerful enough that it would start crowding out other options in the secondary slot. I'm not entirely against unbanning it, I just think that its powercreep over the shotgun, whereas the reserve shooter is a different playstyle necessary to utilize the weapon to its max potential.

In the solemn vow's case, its a weapon that on a team with good communication, is literally useless, and you have to give up the ubersaw to use it anyway.

saamshoraskawaBattalions backup was actually fucking broken and you definitely don't want to play against itIf we're banning what we don't like playing against, can we ban Scout? There's nothing wrong with any of the banners right now.
Super-o yes i love the battalions backup i love when rockets do a max of 75 damage its my favoriteYeah... Ever played against a Vaccinator?

Did you miss the first part of the sentence? "Battalions backup was actually fucking broken". People don't want to play against broken weapons, that's the reason a whitelist exists.

Also comparing Battalion's which you have to give up shotty or gunboats for and you can do during a stalemate with no repercussions later on isn't comparable at all to giving up Ubercharge for a chance at a desperation hold. I've never played against the Battalion's so I don't know how good it is but you made two of the most retarded arguments I've seen.

Part of the problem here is that people are evaluating individual weapons as they stand, instead of the whitelist as a whole. Is the problem with Battalion's? Or is the problem with the counters to Battalions being banned?

Idea: What if we stop treating it like a whitelist and start treating it like a blacklist?

Anyway, with that in mind http://whitelist.tf/6109. I think it would do less to invite level play than most people would initially think, and having the smallest amount of weapons banned possible is always the best solution.

Maybe I'll make a rant post talking about the problem with heavy/engineer being nearly identical classes, but as the classes stand for now allowing heavy to have lunchbox items isn't a problem.
