#13 Large Lag Spikes in Q/A Help
DemonousNightnopeDo you play any other multiplayer games? If so, what do you ping normally to them? It might just be your internet. Try www.speedtest.net and show us your results.Mhh not sure how to check ping on my other games but I do play many other multiplayer games that have zero lag when I play. Alright the results were: Ping: 12 ms Download Speed: 22.38 mbps Upload Speed: 12.11 mbps

Those are pretty close to the speeds I get. The problem could be that you're connected wireless. Or your joining servers that are too far away from you.

#120 TF2 update for 1/27/15 in TF2 General Discussion

So is there a way to hide viewmodels that doesn't cause the bug (for in the meantime)?

AndKennethdeszaResponse from Valve: We haven't had any other complaints of this issue or been able to
reproduce it locally. Could you share a bit of information about your
setup so we can try to track this down?

Apparently they're not getting any (or very many) complaints. I sent them the information they requested from me, but if a lot of you guys are also experiencing this issue please send some emails so we can get this fixed ASAP.

Link them to this thread.

Already did in my first response.

Honestly I wish Valve would be kind enough to rollback this update until they figure out the issues that many users are having. Since we're a minority I doubt this will happen, I just hope it's resolved sometime soon.

#76 TF2 update for 1/27/15 in TF2 General Discussion

It's more than likely something in your various FPS configs. I really don't think posting hardware specs is going to help us figure this out (since everyone experiencing this problem are on completely different builds - as you can see above).

2nd response from Valve:

Thanks, this is super helpful. It seems likely that this is related to
the FPS config, which also explains why it's not more widespread. We
will investigate.

(I sent them Comanglia's cfg)

I really hope everyone posting about this issue is also emailing Valve. It will help us get to a resolution much quicker.

Only other option is some graphic command wizard figures out what the new update messed up and shares the info here.

#38 TF2 update for 1/27/15 in TF2 General Discussion

Email to Valve:

Hello,
After the most recent update (Jan. 27), a lot of people are experiencing a pretty serious graphical bug.

After playing on a server for a few minutes, many props disappear and all players become invisible.

Examples (all from three different players):
http://i.imgur.com/KDuAYJH.jpg (Gravelpit B)
http://i.imgur.com/XczofyU.jpg (Snakewater 2nd)
http://i.imgur.com/MsErlH7.jpg (Upward spawn)

There is a lot of competitive matches tonight that are important to the TF2 community, so please try to fix this ASAP. The game is currently unplayable.

I really recommend more people sending their own emails if we want any chance of this being fixed before matches tonight.

#88 How did you come up with your name in Off Topic

Originally zza (pizza) because pizza is fucking amazing.

Changed it because I found out about the esea-im scout (around playoffs last season). People kept mistaking me for him in pugs causing some to think I was good at this game when I'm actually garbage. (Fun fact: according to his esea page we share the same real name and age, pretty ironic). People also kept calling me z-z-a.

Desza is a variation of de zza.

#1 Soap dm not restoring health on kill in Q/A Help

So I haven't touched the soap_tf2dm.cfg, but my server isn't restoring health on kills nor is it immediately starting the health regen on a kill.

// Percentage of HP to restore on kills. .5 = 50%. Should not be used with soap_kill_heal_static.
// -
// Default: "0.5"
// Minimum: "0.000000"
// Maximum: "1.000000"
soap_kill_heal_ratio "0.5"

// Amount of HP to restore on kills. Exact value applied the same to all classes. Should not be used with soap_kill_heal_ratio.
// -
// Default: "0"
soap_kill_heal_static "0"

// Start the heal-over-time regen immediately after a kill.
// -
// Default: "1"
soap_kill_start_regen "1"

I've edited the soap.cfg a bit to include more spawns, but I don't see how that would prevent the health on kill to work.

Any help is appreciated.

#8 Getting into Music Reviewing in Off Topic

Yo, I actually wrote for a music section of a large publication for about a year and I have buddy who has been working at a music publication since launch (for about three years now).

The best advice I can give you is networking. Like any journalism job it's mostly about who you know. Yea, it's 2015 so maybe you'll get found by writing a blog, but you're still better off by going out and meeting people who are already in the business.

Writing about music is really popular among the younger crowd, so starting off writing about other topics at a publication that isn't music centered is probably your best bet.

I'm not sure of your age so I guess it just depends if you're looking at it for a career or hobby. Hobby wise, just start up a blog like others here have suggested.

Hope this helps you out a bit.

#737 HUD editing: short questions, quick answers in Customization
JBSome buttons are only visible in the mainmenu and others only ingame. There are two values in gamemenu.res, OnlyInMenu and OnlyInGame (or something similar) to change that. I guess that your coop button is only in menu so it doesn't show ingame and the resumebutton is only ingame so it overlaps with the first server. Probably the same for quickplay button. There are two quickplay buttons, one for mainmenu and one for ingame so you probably wanna check that one aswell.

Perfect, got it to work. Thanks!

Still would like to know if there is any way to permanently resize the console window.

#39 TF2 Player Rankings Official Thread in Projects
GentlemanJonSorry for not making this clearer, it's obviously a design challenge for me to meet, but I'll state it as clearly as I can. If you are in a game/log with no damage the only people that affects you against are the other people in the same game/log who also have no damage. It has no effect on comparing you with the wider group. Having no damage in a log does not put you at a disadvantage against the wider field.

Ok thanks for clearing that up. But my point still stands for other stats. Such as:

GentlemanJontime participating is taken into account.

Logs only record time participated with the sup stats plugin.

And it was mentioned before that heals per minute is an important statistic for med (which you need the medic stats plugin for), so what's the point of counting med logs that don't include healing?

I still think it makes more sense to only include the logs with all the appropriate plugins (and there's certainly enough of them to go off). Otherwise it's kind of an unfair playing field. But that's my opinion and I'm just one man.

#731 HUD editing: short questions, quick answers in Customization

So this may be a dumb question, but is there any way to change the size of the console when it opens up? I have -console set as a launch option because I like having the console pop up, but I don't like how wide it is aesthetically.

http://i.imgur.com/hgVObFV.jpg?1

Is there any way to make it permanently smaller so it doesn't overlap the button text?

Also, I edited the buttons of my main menu to make them server shortcuts, but now when I'm in a server the spacing is messed up. The resume button and the top button overlap. As well as my second button returned to what it was originally (quickplay).

#32 TF2 Player Rankings Official Thread in Projects

Honestly for consistency, these rankings should only pull from logs with all of the appropriate plugins (sup, med, etc...). It might be a hassle to make this happen, but it must be possible. I'm sure zooob or F2 could help you figure out a way to filter those.

It really doesn't make sense to have a mixture of both.

Is there an easy way to add those server shortcuts to the main menu in any hud or is that just an option in Rays?
