#5 dorm room internet in TF2 General Discussion
smoboeven if you don't get much bandwidth, if you're wired in the connection should be really good

I had 9up/9down at school which I think was pretty alright, but my connection was so damn spotty I sometimes wouldn't be able to play for a month straight. In a way bigger Canadian city than Guelph.

I don't think anyone can tell you what you will get, you're just gonna have to wait and see for yourself.

#8 Why that class? in TF2 General Discussion

Scout because the friends I started with picked demo, medic, and soldier.

I made the wrong choice I think, I enjoy all 3 other classes as much or more.

#23 Ruleset Discussion in TF2 General Discussion

While I don't have a problem with watching EU tf2, I find NA tf2 more enjoyable to watch. The longer matches with the halftime makes each match a story of it's own. I think NA tf2 may have more stalemates, but that gives casters time to talk about what happened and create a story out of the match. Same with half time.

And on that point, I don't think stalemates are necessarily a bad part of the game. It happens in real sports, eg. the back and forth in football. It also happens in other esports, eg. the farming stages of dota. It's just what happens when neither team has an advantage and is working towards one.

#8 "CS:GO could get its own international tournament" in CS2 General Discussion
alec_it's not like valve has some hatred for tf2 players. it would just be a waste of money to have a tf2 international on account of the small turnout it would get

How much money do Valve gain or lose by running The International though? I imagine directly the lose money. The initial prizepot they put out, on top of running the tournament doesn't seem like anything they could make back from the event itself. Unless they are selling some crazy number of tickets, idk what the capacity is of wherever it is.

They most likely run the tournament to keep the game growing, much like half the reason LoL is alive is because Riot continues to run the top level of the game. More people coming to play the game = more ingame revenue. TF2 is no different in that they make their money from in-game purchases.

On top of that, Gabe Newell is literally a billionaire. A billionaire. Valve probably makes a very sizable amount compared to what he is worth, if not more. I understand that you don't just throw money around because you have it, but they could triple the largest prizepot TF2 has ever had and hardly even notice it.

I think the fact 6v6 conflicts with their vision of the game is an obstacle we won't ever overcome and you shouldn't expect to.

tl;dr I'm not an economist so probably don't listen to me

#56 cell phones in Off Topic

I have a Nexus 5 ordered from the Play Store, which I'm using with Telus prepaid. Prepaid is kind of a joke but I don't spend much and I'm not stuck in a contract so I guess it's okay. Unlimited texting costs me $15 a month. If I got data it's like $10 = 10MB aka a complete rip off.

In terms of plans, the only thing not a complete ripoff in Canada is this one from Wind
http://www.windmobile.ca/plans-and-devices/plans/mobile-plan-details/phone-monthly-plan-3
However, some people have problems with Winds coverage outside of cities, and I've also heard some things about an unstable future for the company so idk look into it

I'm also open to suggestions if someone can find me a cheap way to get data + texting (calling isn't important).

Edit: This information is for Ontario btw, I don't think Wind exists elsewhere.
