most of the interesting alt gamemodes (3cp with koth mid, 7cp, 2koth) tend to make game durations longer and less consistent and dont rly add much to the core game flow beyond novelty

the convenience of discord both in communicating and creating servers kind of made forums largely unnecessary as an online town square. forums value comes directly from their cumbersome and (relatively) structurally heavy nature, which is a barrier too large for possibility of positive user growth since ~2016.

the other half is the death of shit talk, beef, heels, genuine trolling etc as elements of online conversation which has a lot of causes (plenty coming from discord and tumblr) that i don’t claim to have a full or cohesive understanding of
