#8 RIP George Michael in Off Topic

I've been shitposting "Last Christmas" related things at a few people on steam over the last few days and I feel guilty.

#16 ow customization in tf2 in TF2 General Discussion

I honestly think it's every dev's responsibility to make their game well optimized for lower end hardware and to make it look clean without a huge amount of visual clutter so players/attacks etc are very easy to distinguish. If these factors are satisfied then I think it's ok to be more restrictive with settings but I still think allowing people to have more customisable settings to their preference is always a good thing. High level players are almost always going to set the graphics to low to gain both of these advantages whatever you do, making the important settings easy to access and making the defaults non-garbage is probably the most important part.

I'm not happy with the way either TF2 or Overwatch does this, but as TF2 at least doesn't restrict most of its options I think the settings it has are far far better, even if these settings are often hard to find.

Valve would be much better off overhauling the default TF2 experience as opposed to changing the experience for players already invested in the game. Disallowing graphics settings has a negative impact on players who were already playing the game for long periods of time and has very little positive impact on the skill gap as new players are likely to be much worse anyway. Instead this could be addressed by making the default graphical and net settings non garbage, and adding in a decent tutorial and easy to navigate menus. This game is free so many of the people who play it will be children who don't have money to buy games- they especially are going to need the help in working out what the fuck is going on. Penalising players who already play makes no sense.

#7 In-Depth TF2 videos in Videos

The intro to this is really good and brings people in to the context of the vid. I really like the format of the video and think the clip selection demonstrates correct decision making really well.

I think it would be good to have at least a second clip for each concept with a really high impact play made off the back of that decision to demonstrate what can be done as some of these he doesn't make huge plays despite him doing everything right.

I also think more clips where drawing is done to show what he can see and focus in a freeze frame is really useful as a visual aid because people watching videos tend not to have the same awareness as someone actually playing the game. (this vid does multiple explanations of the same idea with freeze frames really well).

If you want to still keep the vid at 10 mins you can probably cut out the long outro, a short clip coming back to a player interview at lan is good but keep it to 15-20ish seconds.

The vid explains the decision making process really well. Glad you're making these.

U know its bad when people are happy valve added in the option to adjust the ingame brightness settings in mm 6 months after its released.

#14 Prepare me psychologically for the update in TF2 General Discussion

Engine updates:
-Fixed a bug where players could use explosions to launch themselves long distances. The soldier and demoman class can now middle click to boost themselves upwards with a small amount of damage taken.
-Fixed a bug where players could control themselves in the air and move faster by pressing strafe keys.

Weapon Changes:
-Changed no unlockable weapons banned in the global whitelist
-Nerfed some underpowered weapons and viable sidegrades
-Buffed the Rescue Ranger, Natascha and Vaccinator
-Buffed a bunch of scout unlocks for some reason or other

Class Changes:
-Medics can now double jump when healing a scout with any medigun
-Pyro now deletes all projectiles with fire but not bullets for some reason
-Buffed sentry health
-Made sniper headshot hitboxes more consistent but also buffed sniper somehow so you just die if you see one

Have a good Christmas

#23 Demoman Melee Meta? in TF2 General Discussion

Zatoichi is good because you can build with it but its not very good as a melee weapon for attacking people due to the switch speed.

You can respawn quicker on servers that have short/instant respawn (or in pregame) by switching class to skip the killcam as well. I guess this is an extension of that where you can live if you time your class switch right.

#15 Some TF2 items irl in Off Topic

There's a shield that the Splendid Screen was definitely based off of in the Pitt Rivers museum in Oxford along with a few other weapons that deffo remind me of stuff ingame on the top floor (I think there's some revolvers that the spy ones are based off of). Don't have any pictures though.
