Recently finished the secret commonwealth by phillip pullman. It was good but its very much only the first half of a complete story so im reserving my judgement until the final volume.
Still have not gotten past page 160 of crime and punishment
Started the overstory by richard powers a few weeks ago and so far its pretty good, looking forwards to finishing it over the holiday.
Also picked up dune which ill probably read after the overstory.

my mum is allergic to everything including dogs and both of my parents prefer cats over dogs

hi!!!
after i moved out my sister is home alone pretty much every day for at least 3 hours and she feels pretty lonely as a result
shes always wanted a pet (so have i) but we've never had one, shes recently spent the past half a year pestering my parents to get a snake, which was denied for obvious reasons
only real problem is that my mum is allergic to cats and so we have to get one of those special breeds that are more allergy friendly (research hasnt fully been done here yet but in theory this works) which increases the price significantly
both my parents had cats growing up, both lived on farms for a while so they just kinda had some around for mice and stuff so its pretty hard for my dad to come around to the idea of having to spend a decent sum of money on a cat
but i really think it will do all three of them good and i wouldnt particularly mind them getting one either (plan is to get one myself when im not a poor uni student)
i am in desperate need of epic arguments to convince my dad that he will also love a cat
