The main reason that people have to use them is because everyone gets the good servers first. If you take more than a day to negotiate a match time, you're almost guaranteed to have all the Chi/Dal servers reserved already, with only a couple Denvers left if you're lucky. Switching the VA/GA/NY servers to Chi/Dal wouldn't make them less popular (and at least for tf2 would be much more popular). It'd probably also alleviate a lot of the ping complaints, since Chicago and Dallas are largely the locations the community has settled on and is used to their pings.

The most vivid World Cup memory I have is 2002 groups; we were living in Senegal at the time and they beat France in the opening game of the cup 1-0. Being an ex-French colony the entire country went fucking insane and El Hadji Diouf is literally a national hero to this day
