#30 anyone play LoL? in Off Topic

Balance will always be imperfect. Heros are changed to be stronger/weaker every patch. I would imagine its the same for Dota?
At any given time, you will always have X heros for every roll that are way better than the rest.
New heros aren't always overpowered. Most of the heros that are changed with every new patch are pretty old.

I mean sure as a player I find it frustrating that I have to bank up on IP, but I understand Riot's view as well.
Honestly if all you can buy in Dota is cosmetics, then I really don't understand how they are making money. (but then TF2 pops in to mind, so I guess there really are enough people that care about that stuff)

I think your term "soft pay to win" nails it. I don't like just "pay to win".

you start off with all champs unlocked, no grinding involved.

Yeah I inferred that, but obviously Valve makes money from dota. So what can money buy you in-game?

I'm playing on EUW, add ItsTrath. (Probably nothing will come out of this post but here is for hoping)

yukiYou know it takes you like 50+ wins or whatever just to unlock the 'latest hero' in that game? A+ Either that or 5-10 bucks.

Well you don't need to have the "latest hero". There are plenty of hero that you can get after 3-5 games.
Sure it is annoying that you don't have a hero you want, but that is why this business model works.

How does it work in Dota? I'm sure people pay for something similar, no?

In any event, League certainly isn't the first to come up with this model, where it isn't pay to win but it isn't nothing either.

#7 Twitch Metadata in Off Topic

I don't see how this could have any effect on music copyright.
What, is iTunes gonna supply Twitch info with what music your listening to while streaming? Then use a different program to listen to music.

Video/Audio data is pretty much limited to the metadata supplied with it, and even if they did have some advanced audio recognizing thing like Youtube, I doubt they would be able to go through all the videos/data they have.

milotldr

Twitch wants to start having metadata for its videos so you know what is in them.
So if you would search "Call of duty 5vs5 sniper" you would get 5vs5 games from sniper POV.

It seems to be mostly talk, and even if it were to happen, it would only be directly with game developers at first. (Apparently Twitch has some agreement with Xbox One devs? so potentially you could have Xbox One game videos with metadata).

The next step after that would be to have PC stream apps (like OBS and xSplit) to either allow users to manually enter metadata or PC game devs would integrate with these apps and supply them the data automatically?

TL;DR of TL;DR
Just some talk about a possible future feature

huhyLKincheloeClick me Gently for the Article!

Seems interesting, though I am slightly concerned that this is what will be used to enforce the music copyright issue we were all freaking out over a couple months ago.

Thoughts?

Link doesn't work?

look at the address bar and just cut off the tf.tv part of it.
maybe this will work http://venturebeat.com/2013/06/24/how-twitch-is-using-metadata-to-change-video-on-the-web/

#1 Recommend me some good DnB in Off Topic

Yesterday I "discovered" 2 sick DnB tracks:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7azOBkAg2rA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q77LWPmAp4k

I would love some more of these type of DnB's.
Good pace, unique-ish sound, good feel/flow.

Thanks in advance and sorry for creating another one of these threads.

#11 Lag spikes when somebody else is using the wi-fi in Hardware
jp_Are you using 802.11n while the other devices are using 802.11g?
AFAIK, G and N on a 2.4ghz frequency can fuck each other over.

I would try falling back to wireless-g only. (General setup>Wireless>Basic Settings>Band)

edit: look at fix #3 http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-basics/30664-5-ways-to-fix-slow-80211n-speed

OMG yes they are using G and I'm using N.
I'm in the middle of a game but if this is the fix you are a legend!
Fingers crossed!

#8 Lag spikes when somebody else is using the wi-fi in Hardware
hooliWell it's a bit different for every router/firmware so I can't be too specific but you just need to find a way to prioritize your computer via IPv4 or MAC address.

I did it, nothing has changed.

What should I be doing in QoS?

#1 Lag spikes when somebody else is using the wi-fi in Hardware

Whenever somebody else uses the internet from another device(browsing, watching youtube, streaming music), the internet is slow for everybody else and games are unplayable.

For example, if I am playing TF2 and then a family member starts watching a youtube video, the game will become unplayable for me, ping goes crazy on net graph.
However, if I am playing TF2 and I run a youtube video in the background, it is unnoticeable. So to be clear, the problem is not the internet bandwidth (15MB down 1MB up), its about "using" the router. (I don't really know how to describe)

If I'm playing TF2, browsing gets slower for everybody else. (even though it is only KB/s).
If I watch youtube/stream, browsing gets SUPER slow for everybody else, and pages might even not load.
Obviously, the same is true vice-verca.

The router is an Edimax BR-6524N.
I ping <1ms to it.

When there aren't more than two people using the internet at the same time, everything is stable.

Is this how things are supposed to be on Wi-Fi? Would getting a new router solve the problem?
