#1556 PC Build Thread in Hardware
Setsul#1546
I just looked it up and you said you're going to build after Black Friday?
I won't make an exact partlist yet since prices will still change.

Some things that you should definitely change though:
You don't need Z170. You can't overclock the i3-6100 and that's basically the sole reason for a Z chipset.
I know the Z170M Pro4S is on sale right now but it probably won't be when you actually buy the parts. Even so the B150M Pro4S is still cheaper.
Always go for 2 sticks of RAM. Shouldn't cost more and you get a few percent more performance.
The Phantom 240 comes with 2 fans preinstalled so you can drop 2 of the 120mm fans. I can help you figure out later which fans to get.

I think the pre-installed fans' RPM top is 1200 so idk. Also you didn't suggest a keyboard I'd like to hear your recommendations.

Setsul I'm about to study digital design so my budget increased to 1000 USD(I could go for 1200 USD but the shipping and taxes are killing me). I'm gonna need a good pc and based on the stuff you said last time I posted, I came up with this build:

I'd like to have a well cooled pc.I know you might come up with a better rig so I'd like to see your opinion. Also I would like a nice keyboard but I don't know what makes a keyboard good without exceeding 1000 USD so I'd like to hear some suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Thank you all.
So the fx-6300 is worse because it uses old technology a not efficient one for real time processing, the architecture is old so it uses more power, hence the Source games use effectively only 3 cores it's an awful decision to pay this much for a 2011's processor that won't use its maximum potential.
The i3 6100 has newer architecture making it more energy efficient and has the performance needed for TF2, way faster than the AMD processor and it's worth the same, so guess which one I'll choose.
On the other hand I'm gonna wait until December to get my computer on Black-Friday, when the Rx 4xx non-reference GPUs are already in the market. I might as well increase my budget for my rig: 600 USD.
Again thank you guys for teaching me about CPUs I really appreciate it, it's always nice to learn something everyday.

Tonshano one should be buying the 6300 in the year two thousand sixteenTechDudeFrequency is only useful if you're comparing CPUs from the same architecture. In this case each GHz of the intel chip is much more performance for each GHz of the AMD CPU. Listen to Setsul.

Alright but what exactly makes the i3 better than the fx-6?

Did you know there's an edit button?

Anyway, this is absolutely terrible for TF2. Anything beyond 3 cores doesn't help but you want those 3 to be as fast as possible. The FX-6300 is an ancient 6 core which means:
-You're paying for twice as much cores as you need.
-The cores you get are terribly slow.

Here we go, far better CPU, slightly better GPU:
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i3-6100 3.7GHz Dual-Core Processor ($110.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B150M-D3H Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($57.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill NT Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2400 Memory ($31.98 @ Newegg)
Storage: PNY CS1311 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($59.99 @ Amazon)
Video Card: Asus Radeon R9 380 2GB Video Card ($134.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Cooler Master N200 MicroATX Mid Tower Case ($34.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($39.98 @ Newegg)
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer ($16.88 @ OutletPC)
Total: $487.78

Depending on the settings you could also get a cheaper GPU and an even better SSD.

If you can though wait until July. New GPUs are coming and they will be far cheaper for the same performance.

But that processor only has 2 cores and it has basically the same clock speed as the FX-6300 which has 6 cores BUT source games only use 3 cores, 1 less than the i3. So: 2x3.7<3x3.6
I have a lot of questions: Does the i3 use threading technology? How many threads it has? Can the threads reduce or improve performance in tf2? I heard the FX-6300 is just an under clocked FX-8xxx, is that true?
Please answer the questions like a civilised person, not like a salty fuckboi. I don't know much about processors.

So? Is it the best I can get for this price? TF2 is the only game I play. It would be awesome to hear you guys opinions, thanks beforehand :D

I have a family member who works with computers so the HDD and the OS it's not a problem.
