#18 Map Voting Results in TF2 General Discussion

This goes against how ETF2L announce their 6s seasons, but it would be nice if the map pool was announced ahead of time so that if there are any new maps in rotation, teams have ample time to practice them. The 2 weeks between the pre-season and the actual season aren't really cutting it, aside from the fact that even once the preseason is done, the main season's map pool still isn't decided.

Bandwidth doesn't usually have an effect on online games, unless your bandwidth is abysmally low.

#9 Mr Slin - Potential Fixes for 5cp in Comp TF2 in Videos
Polar-The gist of his solution to stalemates:
"The shockclock timer ticks down to 0, and instead of having another midfight, what happens is two ramps like descend down from heavens. The ramps come down and then the teams can choose to walk up the ramps, and at the top of the ramp is a heavy. It's like a mechanical heavy, like Mann vs Machine, cuz I'm trying to be thematically correct for TF2 - but you have this like robot heavy at the top of the ramp, and it's a pretty strong heavy but it's 1v1able, like barely, just barely 1v1able like if you're trying really hard to -- eh maybe like later in the game -- eh maybe it's like 2v1able or 3v1able or something like that. So it requires your team to go up there and contest that neutral objective. If you don't do it, well, that heavy is either going to, either you kill the heavy and it gives you like a huge buff, like crits or something, or it gives you -- it'll like drop intel like Roshan, and suddenly your team has this huge buff."

^Yeah I'm sorry I gotta be a bit rude but this is honestly the stupidest thing I've heard anyone come up with with regards to solving the stalemate problem, and I'd rather play 6s at it's slowest than have this ridiculous idea ruin whatever flow and momentum there is left in the game.

Edit: I've said this in a different thread, but I'll repeat here just because I feel this idea actually tackles the root of the problem instead of adding unnecessary gimmicks that only make things more confusing: The reason smart teams won't push is because the chances of failing a push are greater than the chances of failing a hold. The stalemate issue will be solved when the chances of failing a hold are greater than the chances of failing a push. A lot of this is in the hands of how Valve balance and design each class' statistics and mechanics, but as a community we can also do things to help our gamemode by making defending much harder to do, for example:

Show Content
banning heavy, engi and banning unlocks that make defending easier.

#18 How do I get better? in TF2 General Discussion

I appreciate the feedback from all of you. One question I have is what is the mindset I need to be in in order to try to get better? Every time I go into a game saying "I'm gonna try my best", I end up not really going anywhere.

#1 How do I get better? in TF2 General Discussion

Whenver I play 6s I do everything in my power to improve, learn from my mistakes and perform well. I review my own demos and get as much help from fellow gamers as possible, and every time I make mistakes, I often know what went wrong and how I could have avoided doing so. However I feel like I don't know how to learn from my mistakes and am unable to apply what I've learnt from demo reviews and such in actual matches. I end up making the same mistakes over and over again, regardless of how much effort I put into improving my gameplay.

tl;dr I don't know how to get better pls help ;-;

#56 my 5cp idea to help with stalemates in TF2 General Discussion

I think a lot of you guys are looking at this from the wrong angle. The reason 5cp can induce stalemates is not due to the configuration of how round timers work, and thusly changing said configuration won't suddenly vanish the need to stalemate.

Sideshow said it best in his Some Flaws with 5cp video. The reason teams would (and frankly should) rather stalemate than push is because without a big advantage, you are putting yourself at a disadvantage when pushing just because you're more likely to make a mistake pushing as compared to holding. Teams chose to stalemate because waiting for your opponent to make a mistake when they push involves less risk than pushing yourself.

For example, in equal uber situations, using your uber earlier than the enemy team is seen as putting yourself at a slight disadvantage, however TF2 is designed in such a way that in order to push against a team that defends well, you will almost always have to use your uber first. This means that in such a situation, you are taking a risk by simply trying to push. Let's not forget about all the other things that can go wrong when pushing that can lead to a failed push attempt and a successful counter-push from the enemy team.

Stalematey TF2 is a result of the way TF2's classes and their mechanics are designed, as well as how the community has designed 6v6. If we want to rid stalemates from 6v6, the game's mechanics and the gamemode's rules need to be designed in such a way where the chances of pushing successfully outweigh those of holding successfully.
