My bad guys, turns out I had -autoconfig in my launch options all along and it was just resetting my dxlevel to 95 as soon as I'd remove dxlevel from my launch options.

blAstroIf it helps, I have these sound settings and have used them previously on dx8. ((I would recommend these sound settings for competitive TF2 as well)):
dsp_enhance_stereo 0 dsp_slow_cpu 1 snd_async_fullyasync 1 snd_pitchquality 0 snd_spatialize_roundrobin 1 snd_mixahead .05
Try those settings, I hope they work.
EDIT:
Perhaps I should link my DX8 launch options as well...
-novid -mat_dxlevel 81 -noforcemaccel -noforcemparms -noforcemspd -console -windowed -noborder -h 1080 -w 1920
Remove the windowed noborder if you don't like borderless windowed mode, it's all preference.
I'm afraid your sound settings didn't do anything for me, and adding -mat_dxlevel 81 seemed to launch tf2 as expected without any sound glitches, but when I closed and restarted TF2, the game was started with dx9 even though I had that command in the launch options. Using mat_dxlevel 81 in the launch options or as a command seems to give me fucked up audio all the time.
cantimat_dxlevel 81 in your autoexec.cfg
don't think it will improve the alt-tabbing, though
Tried this and it seemed to solve the alt-tabbing issue. However now my sound is really buggy. My hitsound is sort of clipping through any other sounds and I sometimes don't hear things like nearby gunshots, explosions and footsteps. Could this be a flaw with mat_dxlevel 81 or is there something up with my sound commands? I'm using these, if knowing helps:
dsp_enhance_stereo 1
dsp_slow_cpu 0
snd_async_fullyasync 0
snd_legacy_surround 0
snd_mixahead 0.1
snd_pitchquality 1
snd_spatialize_roundrobin 0
voice_fadeouttime 0.1
For whatever weird reason, I managed to run TF2 in dx8 using -dxlevel 81 in the launch options, but every time I remove -dxlevel 81 from the launch options, my TF2 will start up in dx9 again.
I'd really like to be able to run TF2 in dx8 without having to keep the launch option there every time, as it apparently makes alt-tabbing a lot less of a hassle to do.

Sorry if this is old news, but the dropbox links in the op don't work anymore. Also, can we get a link to the potato pc config? Or is that the same one as the gfx/stability configs in the op?

We have a couple Scan stores in the country, but nine times out of ten, buying from Amazon is cheaper than buying from their retailer.
My friend who has a €2.1k build told me he bought all his parts except his case from universalcomputers.com. I checked out their prices for the parts I'm looking for and they're way cheap compared to anywhere else I've checked. I might just get my shit from there, thanks for the help though <3
My grandfather has a blood-orange tree in his garden and it's always exciting when he comes over and gives us a few, cos we get to make blood-orange juice and it's bloody delicious.

I'm buying stuff from, and need it shipped to Malta. It's a bit of an esoteric location to ship to, and I'm not sure how many other online retailers aside from Amazon ship to here. Do you think Ebay is an option worth considering if I find sellers on there that ship to here? I usually buy a lot of the stuff I can't get from amazon from Ebay anyways, but idk if it's worth it for computer hardware as of yet.
Which is the best website to order PC parts from that ships to EU? Is Amazon good or are there better options? Is it worth it to buy different parts from separate online retailers if I can find the same parts for a cheaper price from somewhere else, or should I try to buy everything from the same place?
Ay this was really fun. Can we please have more of these please? I'd legit love to donate towards every single ETF2L ulti tournament as long as I have the money to do so.
