#97 ban the quick fix in TF2 General Discussion
GentlemanJonShounicbefore you read my post please respect that I am just playing devil's advocate because i see some holes in what you're saying.Valve have always looked at online communities. It's not that the competitive scene contributes nothing to unlocks, it's that it is not the priority. If it's not the priority core unacceptable unlocks that nobody is advocating to even test will never be changed because they're too important to casual, the most popular game mode by a huge margin.

It requires Valve to lead a change that both they and a lot of their customers don't want to make. When it comes to certain problem items they're just not going to do it

i agree, valve needs to be less vague about what's going on with comp.

#93 ban the quick fix in TF2 General Discussion

before you read my post please respect that I am just playing devil's advocate because i see some holes in what you're saying.

saamThere is no proof valve used any data from comp to make these changes.

there is no concrete proof, but there is secondary / circumstantial proof.
1. valve reads tftv (among others, like /r/tf2)
proof: jill posted in the forums once (whether this is enough is not part of the discussion)
proof: b4nny and slin (& i think sigafoo too) confirms this is a reality when they went to visit valve headquarters.

2. b4nny has had influence in valve's balancing
proof: he has said that he had been asked to submit ideas for weapon changes and etc. he also had an anecdote about preventing the reserve shooter from being buffed.
2a: whether you think b4nny is the right person doesn't matter, he is a point of "data from comp" used to make changes.

saamAdditionally, we just played a whole season with dumb unlocks, and in the month and a half long offseason not a single weapon was changed.

1. this is not wrong, but why is this right? valve didn't promise when they update things. b4nny has seemingly supported the idea that they like to release their weapon balances and changes in major updates instead, so with the pyro update supposedly on the horizon, doesn't reason favor that they are waiting to ship all their changes then instead of now?

2. regardless of whether point 1 was right or wrong, we also know that the TF2 team isn't very big. Therefore the pace of their work will be somewhat slow. so is it not possible that valve is just slow, rather than they are ignoring us?

saamValve not caring

i'm curious what your opinion on competitive being in the game means, because if they don't care what exactly was the reason they put it in then?

#533 faceit TF2 in TF2 General Discussion
GentlemanJonShounicas for unbalanced games, since every new player starts at 1k elo that seems to be the reason for the imbalancesDo they really use Elo? Surely they use a Bayesian system

idk what their exact system is, but i know that at least new players used to start at 1k elo and then they get bumped up and down as they win and lose. i saw this when i had the free month of premium and you could check people's elo.

#531 faceit TF2 in TF2 General Discussion

I want to admit that we (me / b4nny) did overlook pointing them to resources that can get them more accustomed to comp, so I want to apologize for that. I'd appreciate if you guys could help point them to the correct places!!

as for unbalanced games, since every new player starts at 1k elo that seems to be the reason for the imbalances, because their starting elo is an overestimation of their skill. there isn't really anything the system can do to accurate guess a new player's skill so it's just an unavoidable situation where we just have to wait a bit and let the system sort them all out.

heads up: we (me / b4nny) posted a faceit video so there might be a bump in new players. be wary of newer comp players for a bit!!

SetsulSee #2032.
550W is plenty.

What do you mean with "the full 4.4"?

as in, turbo clock to 4.4ghz but that's also kinda incorrect because you can go further. I just wrote down a standard number to get the point across of <what happens in a worst case scenario OC> type of deal

i'm left handed and you're better off learning how to use the mouse on the right. otherwise be prepared to deal with annoying ambi designs or limited choices forever.

SetsulYes, apart from the ASUS Maximus VII Gene there are
ASROCK Z97M WS
MSI Z97M Gaming
ASRock Z87M OC Formula
and maybe a few more.

I wanna check if my PSU can output enough wattage. so i'll be overclocking the 4790k, let's assume i'll go for the full 4.4. then i'll also be grabbing a 1080 probably, and if it matters, 4 hard disks. so is 550w enough, or should i go for like 600?

Glad we got that sorted out.

Diagnostic LEDs are less a matter of form factor, more a matter of price.

Yes, if you want to overclock a Z97M Pro4 would be good.

i tried googling to find motherboards that would fit my use but i didn't really find any. what matx board with a LED would work for me?

I'm not hellbent on finding one, but I couldn't find one after some googling so idk.

edit: asus MAXIMUS VII GENE?

ok i have to eat my words again, but i'd like a recommendation please :D
so if possible it'd be LGA 1150 with overclocking & the debug LED thing, and if that combination isn't possible I'll just grab that z97 I was thinking of.

oh right, nvm i have some autism. thanks for pointing that out to me. yeah i just have 4x8 which is 32 gb. zzzzzzzzzzzz sorry.

edit: actually idk if technology has caught up yet, but is it possible to get an matx board that also had the LED display? when i used to have a larger PC i thought it was awesome when motherboards came with a display that let you know what was going wrong rather than blind debugging.

double edit: should / could i grab a ASRock Z97M Pro4 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard so I could overclock the CPU a bit?

SetsulI hope you bought 4x16GB.
Another B85M Pro4? If it worked before, apart from you getting a used/slightly broken one with only 2 working RAM slots in exchange for the DOA one, then why change anything? A new one should work properly.

What do you mean by that? I bought the RAM on sale as 4x8. at worst i'll have one that's extra or something but it's not that big of a deal. also that's a good idea, i'll just grab another then. there shouldn't be any issues with power supply / motherboard with the GPU upgrade i'm getting right? iirc r9 280x uses basically the same power requirements as the new GPUs so i'll be fine?

#2014 PC Build Thread in Hardware

[ here is where we left off http://www.teamfortress.tv/post/683548/pc-build-thread ]

so i'm pretty certain i don't need to get a new pc, and just upgrade the one i have.

what i have now:
i7 4790k
r9 280x
16 gbs of ram
ASRock B85M Pro4
CASE - Silverstone SST-PS07

want i want:
replace motherboard (so I can have 64 gbs of RAM, which I've already bought) & replace gpu with a newer one, hopefully a 1080, or something like that. thanks for the advice :D

#10 (Feedback Wanted) Video Recording Preferences in Videos

running all the tf2 commands even with lawena is very annoying if not tedious. I don't enjoy having to look up lawena's keybinds every time I want to use it. Maybe it's changed recently but it would be good to keep the in-gamr aspect of it simple, like one button to start and stop recording. Let all the customization be done in a GUI rather than the console. if you're tempted to venture into a wild idea, maybe you can find a way where we just input the start and stop ticks of the bit to record and the program does the rest, and you just come back to a encoded video.

Please have the option for h.264 lossless and even h.265 for future proofing. Stuff like auto deleting the raw PNG / TGA output from game would also be good - to keep the folders clean.

Beyond that, possibly have a input field to allow "override commands" like if people wanna have min viewmodels on or etc. Can't add a check box for every tf2 command on the GUI so this would be good.

Motion blur from tf2 is bad, because even if people do want it, they can add it post production. Post production also allows tweaking to various degrees so there's not much good reason to have motion blur in tf2 on.

Edit: also make sure you support frame rates over 60. I'd say at least 240 or so.

#416 faceit TF2 in TF2 General Discussion
Avvyis there any way of making the faceit helper launch tf2 instead of csgo

in theory someone could update the faceit helper to support TF2 because the code is all open source here: https://github.com/Poheart/FACEIT-HELPER
