#36 ESEA and CEVO in TF2 General Discussion
london_callingLangelondon_callingsquidThis season of ESEA Open is larger than the last.
this is not true. last season we had 70 teams in Open, this season we barely had 50 teams. this isn't really that relevant to the rest of your argument but it bugged me enough to want to point out.

I would like to point out that Summer seasons are always the largest, and Winter seasons always the smallest. Trends can't be determined from season to season, have to look at it on an annual basis.

yeah, thats why i don't think bringing that up was all that relevant. just that the statement that last season was smaller than this one was wrong. is the size of open really the indicator we have that shows growth in this game?

teams transitioning to open show that they're serious enough about the game to pay for league entrance, so i'd say it is a decent indicator.

pine_beetleNahanni is going to get mad at me but I'm going to say this anyways because I'm very confident if we do this correctly we can match or even exceed the services that esea currently provides. For me my goal is not out of the love of the game or any kind of good will of any sort it's purely a little project I can work on every now and then to see if I can generate revenue (not that I'll take any but if I do expect tf2 to get really big...) I have a lot of long term goals with this that I think are certainly possible because right now this community wastes a lot of money. We pay the league fee we pay premium we put donations in to get teams to lan ect ect... There's definitely a lot of ways we be more efficient on how as a whole community. The main thing is people have to pay for it and a need a reason to pay. If we have anything at all that is free to play we simply will not be able to compete with esea it is of the utmost importance the community supports us with their wallets. There is a sweetspot for price where having more teams pay less will give us diminishing returns that is currently being determined.

I feel like pay to play highlander is a giant cash cow just begging to be milked. This is an area we can unify the competitive scenes. The lan you love from 6s could be in a big way funded by the highlander community.

If we get the communities support and have a good season of cevo and I achieve my selfish greedy monetary goals I don't see any reason why we couldn't host a lan.

facesA few days ago I would have never believed specific invite players could influence Killing because they are "buds," but after how these forums were treated I wouldn't be surprised at all.

the entire point of the "no exceptions" policy was that the esea admins wanted to enforce the same rules for invite players as they would for open players.

huh coulda sworn people cared about lan considering how much more viewership it gets than regular season. back when i was a young scrublet, making lan was the entire point of making it to invite since you could meet your teammates as well as the "legends" of the game.

#54 does our education system suck? in Off Topic

my high school was pretty much segregated since all the asians were in ap/pre-ap classes and all the blacks/mexicans were in regular classes. dunno why there should be multiple difficulties of school to begin w/.

public college admissions are also retarded, how some of them prioritize being top 10% more highly than SAT, when one is relative to the other students in a school and the other is standardized across the nation.

ParagonI think part of the reason why invite isn't as competitive is because the top two teams are just head and shoulders better than everyone else. If those two teams drop due to a lack of lan, there would certainly still be competition within invite, albeit the skill level being lower. As far as I can tell the teams ranked 3-8 aren't that far apart in skill. Not to mention there is some great competition going on within Main IM and open. The competition will be there. It just won't be at as high of a skill level as mix and iT until some more time passes. Potentially sacrificing 12 players for hundreds of others seems like a good trade to me.

Also note the amount of people volunteering to create a new league. With that many people passionate about keeping this community going, I wouldn't say a community funded/organized lan is out of the question (in due time, of course).

the problem is that the big invite names also bring interest from viewers/less casual players. tons of people know b4nny/plat, but how many times do you read in twitch chats people asking who (random invite player here) is? If tf2 loses big names, there will definitely be a loss in interest, and a reduction in the flow of "new blood".

im actually pretty sure insom cheats because we demolished their team on well (thanks to myself being a god) and then they rolled us on badlands so im pretty sure there was something foul afoot. therefore i petition lanfest to overturn their victory and to hand the prize (capes n trophy) to our team.
