#1 "sticky" situation in TF2 General Discussion

Hey guys, so I've been having this problem since I've started maining demo, and that is that I'm really overusing pipes. I'm not horrible with stickies, I'd say average, but i often find myself overusing pipes and using them in situations where stickies are the best, both in actual games and dm/mge. Has this ever happened to any of you? What have you done to fix this? Share please and tnx in advice :>

#8 How to act as a demoman during an uber in TF2 General Discussion
NurseyDo you know the enemy team is going to run at you? Put stickies on the entrances. That's just a general rule for demoman. If you're not in the uber, just put stickies behind the uber until you know it's safe for you to walk in. This also gives the people a safety net to fall on if their uber isn't going properly.

Generally those two guidelines should be enough to not let you fall victim to being the #1 priority in most uber fights.

And what do i do in case the enemy scout/soldier is tunneling me?

Please use r_lod -1 so that models in the distance have lower LODs!

thanks a lot!

#5 Confiq question in Q/A Help
dodefEven if you use comanglia's cfg you can use this one for future references. It covers up pretty much every GFX/performance command you can use, with a short description of each one of them
https://github.com/mastercoms/mastercomfig/blob/release/config/mastercomfig/cfg/comfig.cfg
For instance, in this case, look for the LOD section.

same thing for drifta, but tnx ;D

#1 Looking for mentor in Mentoring

Max_vulcWatch habib play demoman, he’s one of the best demoman streamers and he has most of his matches on YouTubeThe problem with that is that Habib is at such a high level and playing with such a good team a new player isn't going to learn much from him as much as a mid IM+ player would.

It's similar to how people say watch Clockwork demos to learn to play Scout. But clockwork did shit that literally only clockwork and maybe like yomps can do. You need to watch demos from people who are not at the very top until you understand the basics of your class and what you need to.

I think the best bet would to find a mentor and go over your own demos rather than focusing too hard on someone else's demo's

I used to have a mentor but it was kinda embarrassing to watch togheter how i played hahahahhaha. Thanks though!

TwiggyMamzzFuxxTF2C is not an ideal environment to learn proper positioning, but by being surprised and left alone by your team it at the very least teaches you when you should feel vulnerable and take the necessary precautions before you get picked off. In an ideal scenario you'll be with a team that communicates and does its respective job (which you aren't guaranteed to get in an Open team either).

It's an upward battle for sure but as a Demo main it pays off to recognize when you're alone. Once you've developed that intuition you'll see that playing with a proper team will feel that much smoother. At the end of the day TF2C will be holding you back so I'd recommend finding a group of people to form mix teams, doublemixes or play in pickup games in order to further your skill. Join the ETF2L and TFTV discord if you haven't already and start socializing with people.
I'm already in a team and we've been partecipating in a tournament, it's just that i gotta find something to do while we're not scrimming. Thanks ;)
Split your time between mechanics practice (mge/dm/jump), lobbies, and watch your demos.
When you go for DM remember that DM skill does transfer from scout/soldier to pipes.
Make sure to learn crouch sticky jump if you havent already.
When watching demos review mostly your deaths. Why did you die? Was it your fault? What could you have done differently? etc..

Thanks a lot!

attackoftheidiotsI have the same problem mamz and for me, part of it is getting in a rhythm. Simply getting comfortable with the projectile in the same way that you can get comfortable with rockets - knowing the timing, speed, angle, etc. Also for mge, if you don't have anyone to play, play badlands mid. Otherwise do ammomod or no splash to help with directs because that's where waddling is most prevalent.

funhaver1998the pipes not fun either then im just shooting at a potato thats going to become a mad potato (or should i say hot potato) and then eventually use them. ur not gonna learn anything even doing that

if u played dm/mge as scout or soldier in between playing 6s, even shitty lobbies, where u can play demo there, it would be more effective.

like u don't aim either of demos weps in the same way you would a rocket or scatter its situational even to a point where you're shooting at something not even on your screen. if ur piping some guy in 1 situation all the time ur not getting anywhere...

if u want to be good at 6s play a lot of 6s

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHJzg6Nf42M

watch this or any demo frag vid or any moment where a demo displays dm prowess and think whether or not the situation is like what you would find in mge at all

people used to regard kaidus as having the best dm on demo in the game and have u ever seen him in a dm/mge server? i haven't. i haven't seen any Bdonski, Numlocked (playing demo), Ryb, Elacour, Jimbot, etc until recently Habib popularised it and plagued my seshes and the ones that play it aren't even good like if u think of someone who plays demo in mge they are like open/mid/NA open + yight, habib and bullet, who are invite, yes, but are also TROLLS

I met elacour in a dm server lmao he added me after that, and his pipes are prob better than kaidus', and tbh i learned how to hit pipes just thanks to mge. Tbh it kinda looks like you don't like demoman so you're bitching about it. The mge thing doesn't make any sense, when can you find a complete 1v1 situation in an actual game except maybe when SOMEHOW everyone is dead but 2 scout or 2 soldiers, and even then many factors come in like remaining hp etc. Its also known that frag videos are good for nothing if you want to learn, they don't show anyting but a guy's highlights. It's not like i can hit splash from a far with pipes, they're not as consistent as rockets, not to talk about hitscan. Half of an actual 6s game is stalenates, so if i want to improve quickly my dm it's not the best thing. I repeat, it just looks like you had a bad experience in mge with a good demo so you don't want me to play it,and i don't think it's that useless if 3 people above said it's something i should do. Peace

funhaver1998its really really unfun to play against like ive never had fun playing against any demo ever and i've never felt like it was even possible to have fun or learn anything from the match up at all

90% of the time whats happening is the demo is in the furthest point of the map from you where you are doing -3, you gotta obviously now run into him because at your -3 range he hits -100, but hes got a trap there where you insta die to sticky/pipe combo.

mostly happens on via mid. the demo is just behind the rock and then you jump around the rock to get to him but there's a sticky there and he dets and pipes u at the same time.

the sticky/pipe combo thing is much easier to do in mge and unrealistic because of this. its about positioning and forcing people to come to you which doesn't improve whatever you want to learn in 6s at all and literally insta kills you and there's nothing you can do about it especially when you're a soldier

its dumb

idk why people are suggesting ammomod as a way to get better at it too because other than viaduct its the next worse thing u can do because all it falls into is how far is the soldier away from you when you spawn and if you mess up the sticky pipe combo thing or not, which is again completely mge specific

you mess up = u die
u don't mess up = he dies and there's nothing rly he can do about it cause he just spawned too far even if he aimed perfect rockets

Basically why i never use sticks in mge. I get it that it's unfun to play against it, so i don't use it, also cause i don't learn much in the process either

CrimeScenemaybe you are not as good as you think. Anyway TF2C is really aids and you should try to join low level pug groups or even tf2pl instead so you dont fight circlejerks. If you play too much TF2C you will genuinely get worst, it will make your game sense worst

I'm open and i have 310 hours as demo, so maybe I'm really not as good as i think, but tnx ;)
