#3 CEVO Community Meeting in TF2 General Discussion

I won't be there, so I'm glad it's getting recorded. Thanks Nahanni

#286 ESEA and CEVO in TF2 General Discussion

There's so much micro-drama in this thread I'm coming down with cancer.

Everyone is talking, but no one is listening. There's a TON of unreserved judgements being made seeing as we haven't even gotten to TALK with CEVO yet. The meeting will be relatively short, sure, but at least some of your concerns might be lessened. Not only that, but you might see some nice things that CEVO can do for us that will make the switch more incentivized.

That being said, people have to realize: There are players who are never going to play in ESEA again. Many players actually, by the sounds of it, will leave ESEA even if the invite/LAN squad stays.

So what I want to ask is this: When the majority of the money pool from ESEA gets cut off as lower-tier teams leave the League and go somewhere else, and ESEA drops TF2 due to not being able to afford it, or cranks up fees even more, or any number of ridiculous things, WHAT WILL YOU DO? Like, at what point are you going to say "enough is enough"? This feels like such an extreme case of Stockholm Syndrome to me... people are afraid to rip the band aid off. YES it's a big risk. But so is staying with a business that readily puts it's customers (and this community) in it's backseat.

To the LAN-go'ers: From my understanding, most people who go to ESEA LAN have to fly in anyway. Even though Dallas is center of the country east/west, it's a LONNNG way south for some of us. Wouldn't hopping on a community LAN and turning an existing LAN in to OUR i-series (the same way ETF2L has) be so much better for EVERYONE? Wouldn't playing in front of an actual (small) crowd be much more hype than playing in a hotel room with a bunch of CS children and 9 other people watching you? I just don't understand this logic... if you want a LAN fine but how can you even qualify ESEA LAN as a LAN... it's more of a meetup where you end the season and play tf2 for a few days. It's not a festival, it doesn't really have community support (especially before eXtv and others started creating content at the LAN to try and stimulate some growth in the scene), and it's not beneficial to the community any more than piggybacking on a regional LAN would.

Hell, don't even call it a regional LAN. Get one of the LANs to support CEVO, and every season it'll be the CEVO LAN finals?

As Shakespeare said: "What's in a name?"

Platinum#367 - all I'm saying is that if there is nothing to compete for, an incentive (money, fame, recognition, in-game unique items, WHATEVER) then what is the motivation to try and tackle the task of becoming the best? The first season might go off fine because of the sheer spite everyone has for esea right now, but I'm telling you without an adequate replacement for what we already have, it will stifle the growth and competition of this game and the game will devolve to what valve wants it to be. It's fine if you disagree but that's what I see happening. I'm curious to see the logistics of nahanni business plan for ascending cevo above esea, but I'd tend to think she's only in it for a season. Shes a wonderful lovely person but she spreads her wealth and efforts way too thin instead of focusing in one area.

Nahanni is the catalyst, plat. Gotta have something to get everyone pushed in the right direction. I think the community knows it going to be a tough road, but when the community in the end will have more input in the structure and the league itself, I think in the end it will create a better product. Right now we have absolutely no say in what happens at ESEA. Seeing as CEVO wants to already host a town-hall style meeting to help figure out what WE want rather than just have us adopt whatever they choose is already a good sign. Do have issues that you think CEVO won't be able to help with? Why not wait until the meeting and ask your questions. Sure, some things are unknown and we can't possibly know the answer too, but as far as questioning the motivations of why people want to go and dooming it just because people are jumping ship? That doesn't make sense.

I switched from a shitty ISP to a relatively local one last year due to poor customer service and performance, and just because that was in spite of them, it doesn't mean I'm doomed to fail. There's room for success, and room for growth. As far as I'm concerned, getting away from ESEA has been a long time coming. Because it's taken so long, we've all developed a bit too much of a blind-spot for ESEA and this transition will be much harder than it could have been.

2cthe tools to do such a thing do not exist and is essentially impossible to do. you're citing from a settlement that they didn't attempt to refute because they didn't want to risk paying more money if they lost.

That changes absolutely NOTHING. ESEA has treated the tf2 community like second class citizens while siphoning off the last of our money until they no longer support us or we no longer support them. They don't provide anything that other leagues do (like CEVO) besides a LAN, which can be organized through community support, and yet we have to put up with their bullshit season after season because they have a monopoly. The community has no say of the goings on at ESEA. Things will be different with CEVO. But, there's 10000 other threads about this.

If you really need proof in the pudding: Ask yourself when's the last time the ESEA client caught a tf2 cheater.

2ckalkin has gotten the client updated within 20 minutes of a tf2 update launching in the past couple months as far as I've noticed, so I don't know you mean by it not working. jag got dropped during a tf2 offseason(things woulda been real real shitty had there been a season going on then), their dev got picked up the exact day of the server issues and I think things have been smooth since then right?

How about "Watch This" dieing, or the absolutely barbaric "No exceptions!" policies that ESEA have started to offer? I don't give a flying fuck if their Malware client is "working" or "updated". I can count the number of seasons that HAVEN'T been pushed back by a week because of a client issue on one fucking hand. That's unacceptable. If we're paying all that money so they can push out an update that VALVE GIVES THEM ACCESS TO then you're severely overpricing their product.

The bottom line is that esea works.

Sorry, but you lost me there. It's a well thought-out post, but you're missing the point here. ESEA doesn't work, and not just that: their business practices are nothing but malicious and full of negligence towards this community that pays them thousands and thousands of dollars each season.

Wish there was a way to see in the market what specialized effect it is. I know you can see in your backpack but, zz.

Anyways, made 6 bucks off one item, and have 2 more up for 5 bucks a piece. Then I'll buy the kit I actually want in a few weeks. The news maps are fun though, and medic is stronk.

blinKPretty much in NY/NJ. So cheap. Then they try to use their EBT cards to get reimbursed for membership while they drive off in their Mercedes.

Or they conspire plans for car accidents so they can use their russian chiropractor to get paid off. Always a deal to be had !

You guys are getting me wrong. There's a difference between a white person and a crack addict white disgrace. Just as there is with a good african man and a n word. And the same goes for every other race there is. Relax. ESEA is the enemy here not me. I'm just a disgruntled ginny from NY. Stop giving me so much attention!

Bro, take a break. Just, take a break for a bit.
