#34 Gauging Interest for an Idea in TF2 General Discussion
conductorMR_SLINWe might want to look at how the fighting games do it (i.e. Street Fighter) to find a way to condense it
a match in street fighter or marvel or any other fighting game takes a substantially shorter amount of time to play out than a match in tf2, they don't really need to worry about condensing their games

Yeah I edited it out because I realized that. The KOTH model that Blueberry is referring to is like playing using one machine at an arcade (i.e. 1 server). People line up and challenge the winner. But for this kind of more organized thing it might just be more fun to have a tourney like Killing suggests.

OP said play 1 half -- maybe just make it first to 3 or 30 minutes then instead of first to 5 or 30 minutes? First to 5 or 30 minutes is more of a PUG ruleset than a first-half ruleset. And then if you find that you have enough time in the night / teams want to play more games, you can have it be double elimination then so that the lower-level teams sort of find each other faster and the upper-level teams find each other.

[Edit] Like I think Killing is looking for something like this:

Either way, Killing, you should probably just plan for only hosting one of these and then tweak it for the next one. Once you figure out a system that works, then you can plan out if you want to do it weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, etc. IMHO monthly/bi-weekly is just too infrequent. If we can find a system that can be organized on a weekly basis that is ideal. It's supposed to be casual anyways, right?

Mr_OwlBlueberryVillainThere is another style tourney you can play...
Interesting, but I know that I appreciate a little downtime in between scrims/pugs as is. Winning 2-3 in a row would lead to some burnout for sure. Maybe if you wanted to keep the rapid-fire thing going, shorten the rounds down a little? Make KOTH first to two or something and 5cp a 15-20 minute game? It'd allow for faster switches (and more teams playing) as well as cut down on teams getting sick of playing long games with few breaks.

I like Blue's idea but another thing to consider is that I think the OP wanted closer/more interesting matches? If one team gets in early and dominates everyone, then it might not be as fun. So you kind of have to take the good with the bad in weighing the amount of work that you want to put in to organize this vs. how interesting the overall event would be.
