#29 9-11 Remembrance in Off Topic
wafflebBy the way, would you recognize, and turn into a holiday of sorts, the death of a loved one, on the anniversary of their death, on the same day and only that day, every year from the year they died?

Would you do it if you didn't even know the person?

Many americans fake sympathy for this event - yet overlook many injustices, even within their own country and government.

In fact, people fake sympathy for a lot of things. In this case, I think its a little redundant 12 years later, unless you were someone involved with the incident - just saying.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I definitely think a lot of people fake sympathy for the event. I think a lot of people take advantage of it, and use it in a way that's twisted and pretty damn near inhuman in their disrespect for people. That doesn't negate the fact that there are both people who were, and still are, affected by the event, and that some people genuinely feel sorrow on behalf of those people.

I think overlooking injustices is pretty universal. Insisting on pointing to it happening in America is extremely unfair, considering your stance seems to be that injustice is a bad thing. I'm not defending the fact that a lot of things have distracted from important issues here, but at the same time there are issues world-wide that need immediate attention.

Logically speaking, not every problem can be fixed, and to attempt to fix every problem you need some kind of division of labor. So sometimes people can be focused on fixing certain problems at the expense of others. That's just how the world works. This country definitely could use some help in the way of avoiding distractions but let's be totally honest, social media networks aren't going to stop dead for no reason tomorrow. And being even more totally honest, America isn't the only country with problems. Note that this isn't a deflection - I'm not saying that because other countries have problems, ours are somehow mitigated. What I am saying is that you are, inherently, being unfair by pointing fingers at a single country, and being somewhat hypocritical in the process by attempting to highlight injustice.

BY THE WAY, have you seen this totally adorable and very distracting video?

wafflebI really don't care, what with the thousands of innocents the american military has killed recently. If it were truly an eye for an eye, there would be a lot more collapsed buildings around the USA. (which obviously shouldn't be done, mind)

Overlooking the fact that one tragedy should have no bearing on whether or not you care about the other tragedy, then you are absolutely correct - if every action ever were repaid in full, a lot more people would be dead. Like, literally everywhere. All over the globe. We would never, as a human race, have made it to 2013.

MewtwoEhh not even worth.. Have your little reunion of 9/11 Remembrance and have fun.

Dont say you are sorry for everyone that died. Remember the day EVERYDAY and not only today.

You can't take the opposite tack in so hard of a way. It'd be damn near impossible for any person to live with some kind of emotional baggage constantly hanging over them. Sometimes you need to put something out of your mind for a while, maybe even an entire year for people more heavily affected by an event. I'm not saying you need to forgive and forget, but sometimes you have to pick and choose when you really sit down and reflect on things that have happened, and sometimes you need to get on with your life. Your insistence that you choose one or the other shows a very clear lack of understanding of how humans work. I get that you don't care, and I'm not sure whether or not you're driven to say so because you think it makes you look cool, or even that voicing your opinion is important to you, but 12 years is a relatively short period of time in the scope of human history and there's still several generations of people still living with the effects of that event in their lifetime. Then there's people like me who have little to no stake in the matter. I didn't lose anybody, fine. Just because I can't empathize doesn't mean I can't sympathize. Any attempt to pass off my condolences or those of anybody else as empty platitudes is a very, very shallow cry for attention. In all honesty? I might not give a single thought to 9/11 throughout most of the day, and likely even less in the weeks to follow, but that's not my burden to carry. In the same way, it's not like I can't acknowledge the pain of others and in some attempt at being a better human than I am normally, voice some measure of support.

My reflex here is to tell you to jump onto a stair railing so that your testicles shoot up your body and into your throat and you choke to death seconds before they burst, releasing what little-motile semen you might have out of your nose and mouth, leaving a horrifyingly comic deathmask. But that would be about as inappropriate as you have been. So I won't tell you to die in a manner in which you essentially blow your load in the back of your own throat.

Have a pleasant day.

It's hard to be edgy when you lack even the tiniest mote of creativity.

I'm sorry for anybody who experienced a personal loss during the event. I was in 7th grade at the time on the other side of the world on a school camping trip. One of our teachers made the announcement. I'm not even sure it phased half my class or they understood really what was happening but it was a pretty somber day from what I remember.

#42 windoes 8 and tf2 in TF2 General Discussion

I have 8 on my laptop but I hate it.

I will freely acknowledge that this is largely probably from not being used to it, but I hate a lot of the app launches rather than regular programs, and the fact that the start menu is just a whole-screen app grid.

Serious question here: If someone were to mentor you, would you actually listen to their advice at all?

#22 Did Bowyer Deliberately Spin? in Off Topic
PKIf you watch the lap before you can see him countersteer off turn four. Those cars have a lot of power, and if you've spent a decent amount of time in a sim you know getting on the gas to quick will send the rear end around. He caught the guy in front pretty quick (I'm assuming it was a lap car) and was probably trying to cut the corner tighter to pass while getting on the gas as soon as possible. That, combined with the fact that his tires were worn, makes it reasonable that he could spin.

On the other hand, Bowyer should have the fitness and experience to deal with it. Drivers are also at the whim of their owners in order to keep a ride, and putting a teammate into the run for the championship is a pretty good reason to get a yellow. I think he definitely did it on purpose. I know I've done it a few times to force a caution.

You race on a team? Or is it a situation where you're technically not allowed to give details

DunderBroQuick question, if he spinned, why is that bad.
Also what is spin

My understanding of NASCAR is limited but:

The racers belong to teams, even though each race can only have one person finish in each position as far as I know. In this case, it appears to conspiracy theorists that this driver, Bowyer, purposely made it seem like he lost control of his car. When a racer loses control, whether there's a crash or not, a Caution begins. During a caution all of the racers slow down to a non-racing speed and remain in the positions that they last crossed a certain point in the lap. The cars continue to circle until the issue is resolved.

When he spun out, intentional or not, he created some circumstance in which his teammate would be able to make it to the Chase (which I guess is like NASCAR playoffs).

This is the part I'm unsure of. I guess the guy who would have won had to pit stop, and then he didn't make it back out onto the track in time, and ultimately lost. Because he lost, Bowyer's teammate was able to make it into the Chase.

BapeI wanted to watch those virgin nerds try their hearts out just as much as everyone else.

I didn't mean to phrase it in a way that implied you were behind the attacks. Just curious.
