Step 2: Cut-paste your entire custom directory out of tf and see if you still get errors
Step 3: If you do get errors, re-install. If not, figure out the files that are screwing with your game and delete them. If they're missing, figure out what is calling them. If you're too lazy to do that, then just delete anything not related to your HUD/configs.

He's played the original Civ, so I'd say he's familiar with the core gameplay it.

First thing to do is to get things sorted out with your dad. Having extra stress on top of schoolwork is bad.

Next thing to do is to show your dad that you're committed to your education. Bring up those grades. PROVE TO HIM YOU ARE TRYING. Saying that you shouldn't be disturbed because you're studying is basically telling your dad to trust you. DO NOT BREAK THAT TRUST.

Last step is to talk to your dad about your sister. My parents had a very good understanding of my relationship with my brother, so if anything serious occurred and we pointed fingers at each other, they'd just shake their heads.

By the way, explicitly disobeying your parents because they did something unreasonable is probably the last thing you want to do. Compromise is probably the best option you have here.
