#26 Best tf2 team names? in Off Topic

I nominate broder:

  • Had a great ring to it, just a short foreign word that rolls off the tongue.
  • Means the same thing in Danish, Norwegian and Swedish, which plays along with the Scandinavian majority in the team.
  • Players tagging up as "broder playername" supports a pretty cool theme of a brotherhood/covenant (dunno if that was intentional). Plus it implies a brotherly level of teamwork, which seemed true for the team.

broder revival for matchmaking?? BibleThump

#54 Anime suggestions? in Music, Movies, TV

I've been looking to try anime recently, so I decided to look for mature sci-fi series with a dark and/or psychological bent. Here's what I watched so far:

  • Neon Genesis Evangelion: Having grown up on merch-driven shonen series and Power Rangers, I recognized it being a bit cliche in the beginning. Halfway through it goes off the deep end, though, and that's where it shines: sci-fi psychological horror with religious undertones. The series finale and the EoE semi-retcon are equally great, each in its own twisted way. Heavily recommended.
  • Serial Experiments Lain: After NGE, this series' beginning came as a bit of a shock: the first couple of episodes are really slow paced, and that's in a pretty short series to boot. Overall, it's a great cyberpunk story with an increasingly loose grip on reality. The sound and music are of particular note here; they serve to enhance the surreal feel even further. Heavily recommended.
  • Texhnolyze: I was looking forward to seeing this, as it shared some key staff with SEL (including the writer). However, I was kind of disappointed with the sci-fi elements taking a backseat to other, vaguely explained concepts. Also, if SEL started off slow, this one starts SUPER slow; expect excessive meandering for several episodes. The plot follows several characters at once and feels a bit disjointed. It's alright if you want something really odd and depressing.
  • Ghost in the Shell - Stand Alone Complex: I was already a fan of the first movie, but it felt super condensed. Wanting more, I then tried getting into the original manga, but it seems to carry a completely different tone and is way too wordy. This series is in the sweet spot: it takes just enough time to explain things, but is also livelier than the film (Batou in particular doesn't seem like a mere male counterpart to Motoko anymore). There's a lot going on here: memory hacking, espionage, character drama, adorable spider-like tanks(!), and a pinch of political intrigue. It's amazing. Watch it.

By the way, I'm open to suggestions in the same vein. I already plan on watching Cowboy Bebop, Psycho-Pass, Monster, Berserk and 2nd GIG. I also watched Akira, of course.

#131 Dreamhack Cluj-Napoca in CS2 General Discussion

Considering how amazing NiP have been playing, I don't think NaVi don't stand much of a chance against them. They went really close with Luminosity.

On the upside, Fnatic slayers Envy vs. fired up NiP should be a game for the ages, I can feel it. Too bad I can't take a day off tomorrow to witness the glory live.

#13 Possible Scream Fortress maps. in TF2 General Discussion

I love Gorge and the reskin looks sick, so I hope Gored gets in the update. I also hope that the name stays intact, it's metal as fuck (and clever to boot).

I'm not sure about Sinshine's chances for this year, because Sunshine has not been acknowledged by Valve so far.
