wonderoflanother facet of europeon inferiority is the gameplay, if i only saw stalemates i would've never touched the competitive side, especially while its full of people who insist thats how the game should be played

while i think this remark is out of left field in regards to initiatives to draw in new players, it is definitely true. the fact that a top 2 team in europe can have full uber ad and a demo pick holding process last in LAN grand finals and still choose to continue stalemating on last, risking a round reset where you get wiped on mid and lose the round in one minute instead of pushing into 2nd is fucking embarrassing man. if it's not fun to watch how can you expect new players to think it will be fun to play?

sorry continue off of wonder's remark that i just called "out of left field" and continue roasting EU gameplay but i was watching botmode's stream during RCADIA LAN and i forget who the euros who were in mumble were (YeeHaw was one of two i think?) but one of them said that euros don't play scrims that slowly??? if thats not how you're playing scrims then why is that how you're playing the single most important match you could be playing in? demo pick and full uber ad individually are massive advantages and to not push out of last when they are COMBINED is just a mind-boggling decision to me. obviously i wasnt in mumble and im really hoping there was some other factor in this that I couldnt possibly know as a spectator but holy shit i was about to pull my hair out when that happened

JwI think trying to market to the "casual community" is basically useless because casual players as a whole will never be competitive-type players.

i think this is a non-issue because by marketing to the casual players only the ones who have an interest in 6s will try it out and if they dont like it then they wont keep playing it. ever since sigafoo stepped down it feels as though there has been a lot less of a forcing of the idea that NR 6s is the ideal way that 6s should be. new players will be playing in Newcomer and Amateur. if they are not "competitive-type players" they will never grow past that level, and thus wont have an impact on how the majority of players (IM, Main, Advanced, Invite) experience the game.

Marketing to casual players doesn't have to mean "omg come play 6s and build a sentry gun and teleporter on the enemy's 2nd point and also run full time banner soldier, a heavy and a sniper!" All marketing to casual players needs to be is "hey come try 6s! we have friendly experienced players who will help you learn how to play and hopefully you have fun!" I think current RGL administration understands this fact and will act appropriately.

At the end of the day, TF2 is supposed to be FUN. we play competitively for FUN. casual players play casually for FUN. and maybe casual players can play some low-level 6s for FUN as well. the more who play 6s (if even not necessarily to improve and try their absolute hardest), the better, imo.

My idea for fixing 5cp in competitive 6s

I actually have an idea of how to remove dead time completely (aka. the time left of a 5cp game after one team is 4-0 up like 3 minutes left or something of the sort). make the amount of rounds required to win one more than the current highest scoring team after 30 minute timer runs out and no team has hit 5 rounds

BASIC RULES:
EXAMPLE 1: winning 5 rounds before the 30 minute timer ends the game instantly.
Example 2 : if a team is up 3-2 after 30 minutes elapse, the NEW maximum rounds to win is now 4, instead of 5, and the time limit is removed. The team with 3 rounds is now incentivized to win another round and close out the match, and the team with 2 rounds is encouraged to comeback and win the match.

Now imagine the following: you are on a team full of crybabies whose mental's shatter after they lose two rounds. under this system there will always be time to regroup the mental and swing the momentum in the other direction and have an intense match. yes its possible that you are on a team of players who still give up instantly HOWEVER this still gives a reason for these players to keep fighting, since there is no threat of a timer running down and making winning truly impossible

This will fix two things, it will decentivize stalematey gameplay from winning teams, who can no longer rely on the timer to win the match for them. And it also removes the time pressure from the losing teams, which may cause them to play sloppily in an attempt to gain back their ground as fast as possible.

Now this is just something that popped into my head as I was having breakfast but as we (RGL) are going to be in abit of a 6s drought for the next couple of months I suggest a little to text how this (with modifications) would work and if it's even possible to creat a server config for these rules.

Any suggestions on how to build on to this system are appreciated.

Brockwhat's wrong with getting tanky?

you just gotta remember that a soldier who is not jumping is a soldier who is incredibly easy to focus down and kill. imagine playing MGE against juanpablo2006 and he cannot rocket jump so he sits there waddling at you. you direct him 3 times and he dies. scale that up to a team fight with competent players, you can maybe get like a rocket or two off before you are focused by 3 people who deal 300 damage to you in less than 2 seconds. maybe 4 seconds if you surf a projectile or something like that idk. you are essentially letting the enemy team walk all over you if your goal is to "get tanked" and do as much damage as possible.

people talk about sighguy shotgun pocket being "baity" but thats literally the optimal way to play soldier with a shotgun in 6s as the meta stands today. you get 300, your team busts thru the doorway for you, you waddle thru or do 1 rocket jump for 50 damage and try to kill the people focusing your team. you cannot close gaps effectively with a shotgun, you cannot draw eyes effectively with a shotgun.

the shotgun gives you lots of ammo to shoot guys with, yeah, but if your goal is to get tanked and deal as much damage as possible, you simply dont have enough time to use all 10 of your shots before you get focused for 350 damage, and your medic cant afford to be forward tanking such a non-mobile target.
