#103 Thank You Letter to RGL in TF2 General Discussion

Look, I like the we-hate-RGL-threads as much as the next guy, but this one makes little sense.

We are all accountable for our actions - whether IRL or online. RGL has made it explicitly clear that they will, and have, banned people for failure-to-submit demo infractions. Additionally, RGL has made it explicitly clear that they ask for demos from roughly every match that is played within RGL. If you guys want to argue about the use (or non-use) of these demos from an AC perspective, you can, but it is not a new thing that RGL has implemented. They have been requesting demos and enforcing the suspensions surrounding not being able to provide them for several months now. It is pretty likely that RGL circles back to players who failed to provide demos in the past, at least based on the frequency with which players who already have had warnings about demos get their demos requested.

Antlers knew about this rule and RGL's willingness to enforce it, and had every opportunity to be accountable and ensure the same mistakes he made before do not happen again.

I have sympathy for any player who gets banned from the game they love, but I still don't understand why people are upset. RGL has been requesting demos for months, and has never (at least to my knowledge) made exceptions under any circumstances. RGL is not at fault for following their own rules. Be accountable. Be responsible.

#56 Thoughts on new RGL ping guidelines? in TF2 General Discussion

In May of 2019, UGC implemented a rule that considered players from Peru and Colombia to be pseudo-North Americans. There have been 28 months of these players playing in NA divisions, and although for the first season there were some difficulties to overcome, there have been virtually 0 issues regarding these players since then. So far, all my interactions with these players have been nothing but positive, and they understand that they are playing with all the handicaps that continental SA players have when playing in NA divs but they've overcome that and have been valuable players in the TF2 competitive community.

This rule is shortsighted and alienates members of the SA community that have been playing in NA for quite some time now with little issue.

Esta regla no es justa y no es asi como debemos tratar a los buenos miembros de la comunidad.

dovei only took down my original thread because UGC head admins said that if I called him a pedo it was considered as doxxing

This is very untrue, and you know it.

Wall I tell others this on a regular basis as well. Fuck you, Nick. Learn more about your league and why people hate it.

Like I said before, no league is perfect, and you're right some issues can never be rectified with apologies of any kind. That being said, under the current administration we have attempted to keep issues of this level at practically 0. It should be noted that Fornaught is a league owner, not a league administrator, although I can 100% understand the concern you raise in regards to previous events. I would hope that issues of the past wouldn't taint the reputation and hard work that the new set of admins have tried so hard to establish, however that is something that the admins are aware of and are working to prevent in the future. I know why people dislike UGC and myself plus the other 8 staff are committed to rectifying the issues of the past and laying the groundwork to prevent these issues from ever occurring again. It's clear what happened to you during your previous interactions with UGC was unfair and a poor example of proper admin work, and to that, I also apologize. Any league should pride itself on its ability to act fairly and swiftly. Like I mentioned before, UGC is and will always try to learn from our mistakes and improve for the future, so if you notice any issues or similarities between your situation in the past and the current system now, I would truly request you please reach out and let me know how I can fix things. I only want whats best for the community.

pajaroGeneralNickThe admins that once made those egregious rulings are no longer working for UGC, and any admin who was to make rulings like that would swiftly be removed from their position. 4/5 of the points you brought up happened under an entirely different set of admins who have been out of their position of authority for 3-5 years depending on who it was. so kumori isn't general manager of all ugc tf2 leagues?

No she isn't

alfa Didn't your league ban me off a twitch clip and then you just typed "interesting" in the thread about it?

No, the league did not ban you off of a twitch clip, but yes I did type interesting in the thread pertaining to it. You were banned after an AC investigation that utilized more than just a twitch clip. If you would like to discuss it a little more personally, feel free to reach out to me on discord for more information. However, in regards to my comments in the thread, as per UGC Admin Code of Conduct Rule 2.1, I am forbidden from discussing the specifics of any cheating ban/accusation with the impacted parties or the general public, hence my reserved response in the thread.

pajaroAnyone romancing about moving to UGC probably hasn't heard of all of the shady shit that UGC has done in it's past.

The important distinction to make here is that almost all of these issues happened years ago. No one from UGC today, or in the community at large would lie and say that UGC is flawless, but all of the largest administrative flaws have been ironed out to the best of our ability. The admins that once made those egregious rulings are no longer working for UGC, and any admin who was to make rulings like that would swiftly be removed from their position. 4/5 of the points you brought up happened under an entirely different set of admins who have been out of their position of authority for 3-5 years depending on who it was. And to add to the final point, our ban archives are meticulous, however in your case, at the time I was not a head admin and did not have access to the archives and had to rely on someone else to play middle-man. Regardless, I on behalf of UGC and its administration team, wholeheartedly apologize to you pajaro and I hope your inability to play TF2C didn't cause you any additional and uncalled-for stress.

No league is perfect, but UGC wants to listen to the community and we want to hear from everybody so that we can continue to improve the league experience for everyone. UGC has had issues in the past, no question, and I am sorry for all of that, but that was several years ago under an entirely different set of admins. It would be unfair to criticize new Presidents for the actions of the previous administration, and that exists in this situation as well. If there are any other major concerns or comments about our league that needs to be addressed, feel free to reach out to me or any other head admin. All we want is to show the community we have improved since the years past, and we are excited to prove it to everyone!

#83 Monthly RGL Is Bad Thread in TF2 General Discussion
seven1The only reason I still pay up is because RGL is less of a meme than UGC, which of course is kinda funny. We should honestly talk more with UGC and start moving there until RGL stops virtue signaling and actually does work.

EDIT: Like at this point RGL has no real incentive to get better because everyone who wants to play at a high level of competition uses RGL and not UGC with no questions asked. We should hold them more accountable and leave when stuff like this happens. The only reason there isnt a high level of play at UGC is because WE CHOOSE to play in RGL. Imagine if ESEA never became a thing. UGC would be the hub of 6s and there would be high level of play. We should stop giving our money and time to places like RGL that just continuously ignore the community and do whatever they want in a dictatorial fashion with the occasional PR stunt.

UGC is, and will always try our best to listen to community feedback regarding the areas we can improve in as a league to provide a better experience within. That being said, no league is perfect and RGL does provide a very user-friendly and enjoyable experience (for most people at least). Every league has its shortcomings, UGC included, and hopefully, as time goes on, more and more people will realize that the bulk of the issues surrounding UGC arise from the smaller team counts and not underlying issues regarding administrative decisions/community engagement. I believe that league v. league drama is counterproductive to the longevity and overall betterment of our community, but I hope that whichever league retains a majority of the player base understands that their decisions not only impact the players within their league, but also the players of TF2 as a whole. I do hope people start to realize that there is less of a vacuum regarding where players can obtain their competitive TF2 fix, and hopefully, as a community, we can value our voices more and start holding leagues accountable, not just with our words on the forums, but with our actions. Be the change you want to see, and hopefully, this community will continue to grow and thrive, long after any of us are still around to witness it.

#42 Monthly RGL Is Bad Thread in TF2 General Discussion

Bans are arguably the harshest form of punishment any league can hand out. It can be assumed that for most people who play competitive tf2, gaming is a large aspect of their life. Additionally, it may also be a rather social element of their lives considering how small/tight-knit our community is. Banning someone, even for a month, can make it practically impossible for them to play their favorite game for several months. Keeping in line with the sports analogies, that would be similar to someone getting a tripping violation in hockey but instead of getting put into the penalty box, they also are now forbidden from playing hockey for a month. In terms of competitive tf2, there is no viable alternative. Getting banned makes it impossible for people who legitimately care about the game in a competitive setting, from getting any sort of satisfaction/enjoyment from the game. Banning people for stupid mistakes, for such a long time, serves no purpose to protect the community at large. Overturning the match would have been sufficient, but this ban is cruel and extremely uncalled for. I hope RGL can reflect on the issues raised in this thread, and hopefully, no more month-long bans (mind you calling someone the n-word in a match is only a 2 week ban) are handed out to players who made silly mistakes, that had 0 impacts on the outcome of the match.
