#93 next gen xbox reveal in Off Topic
omniIt looks like an old DVD player
http://cdn-static.cnet.co.uk/i/c/blg/cat/dvdplayers/Toshiba_HD-XA1(300x300).jpg

Yeah, my brother was saying it looks like a black NES. Thinking about it now it looks a little like a black Wii's shape with the original PS3's aesthetic.

#10 Need someone to install graphics card? in Hardware

It's very easy. Do you have a graphics card in mind? Higher end cards require 1 or 2 additional connections from the PSU.

#17 Android Phones in Hardware
tehh4ck3rdMenaceThanks for all the info, read it all and I'm confident HTC One will be the right one for me, I'll definitely check out the Nexus 4 but I'm big on battery life. I'll most likely be at a retail store this evening and can check them all out. You guys are awesome.
AFAIK Nexus 4 isn't at retail, but if you like the One I'd go with it if I were you

They only sell the Nexus 4 retail in T-Mobile stores. Otherwise, it's a super cheap $350 unlocked in the Play Store.

#24 Which one of these is the best for TF2? in Hardware
Cro0Ked_delpoYou'd probably benefit more from a better processor than gpu for TF2.this. tf2 is cpu-limited, so get a good cpu

At some point Valve decided to utilize CPU resources the most because average consumer PC's have much better CPU's included than GPU's.

#5 Ping problem? in Hardware

Use a program like Ping plotter to do a trace route and see if any of the servers he's routing through is are causing issues. I know fucking SCNET caused a lot of problems for me for a while.

#18 120hz and why I should get it in Hardware
morningfoxA 120hz monitor is prty gud. But it won't transform you into a new player or "make you better much better".

Actually I'd say 120hz is the only thing that almost guarantees some performance improvement after a short time for money.

I had to switch back to 60hz for like the last month and I can't hit half the shots I know I could with 120hz just because I literally can't see clearly enough to hit them, even after I got used to 60hz again. Scout's are almost invisible unless they're moving in straight lines. It's crazy.

r4ptureI'm just anti-weapon banning in general. Banning weapons goes against my whole "blame yourself not the game" approach I take to games. If something kills me, its not because its OP, its because I don't know how to handle it and need to improve.

I don't even use DH.

That's like saying if you were scrimming some team that decided to use 24/7 spy for some reason you should just deal with it instead of not wasting your time.

#9 Forcing games to use highest refresh rate? in Hardware

Why risk shortening the life of your $400 monitor for 2 extra hertz? Honestly I would just get over it. There's nothing you can use to monitor the LCD's health either so you're basically just blindly turning up settings outside of their recommended spec. I probably killed a cheap dell CRT I bought off craigslist by turning up the refresh rate to 120hz.

#13 monitor scaling in Hardware
industgotta have dat extra fov
I've wondered if this is legal for ESEA

1024x768 would decrease his fov

lanskyThe only reason I think this is possible is that NVIDIA has some scaling option where you can set the monitor to a certain resolution and have black bars on any of the sides. The only problem is that when I launch TF2 it just overrides the desktop settings and forces it back to my native res.

You might want to try switching the "Perform scaling on:" option to GPU.

#20 fps configs better than chris'? in TF2 General Discussion
DarkNecridkirbyi heard there were rare occurrences were running @ max settings could result in better performance than lowest settings. is this true?
If your GPU is really really good you can get better performance with higher settings since the Source engine will actually use your GPU a little bit.

This isn't true. More GPU resources will be used but that doesn't offload CPU use or make it any more efficient.

#5 Streaming bit rate help? in Off Topic
Bolshevikreillyhttp://obsproject.com/estimator

What hooky said should be about right. You could probably use a lower bitrate than that though, and I wouldn't recommend streaming at 60fps without overclocking.
Thanks, that link was really helpful. Gonna try 3000 Max Bitrate with a 5 or maybe 6 quality. I was running 6000 Max Bit Rate the other night, and my viewers were experience some slight stuttering and i'd like to eliminate that. Will report back with my findings.

Are you getting dropped frames? You might want to try streaming to a different server. The server nearest to me dropped frames frequently when I tried streaming.
