People don't know what they want.

I personally don't remember anyone suggesting this. What I heard about how the GRU happened was Valve asked why people don't run Heavy more often in the comp beta and they answered that the Heavy is slow and Valve thought that meant it should be fixed, or something lol.

madcra7yWhat this gun does is make it harder for a single class to bomb you and kill you/ your target. It's uber is fairly weak, and if you push into a full team (scouts, soldiers and demos) you are not going to come out on top.

The uber is not weak, 75% damage resistance + 25% heals on the pocket/medic is really strong as long you tank the specific resistance and mitigate the other 2.

The uber makes a kritz Demo do 50 damage, and a Sniper can't instant kill you with it on (most they can do is 84 damage) for example. I'd imagine considering how 6s plays, you're better off using explosive resistance and having people control the Scouts (unless there's a sniper then bullet resistance lets you walk freely). You arrive to mid with 6s of this resistance uber, you can just w+m1 across mid and kill the other Medic with your combo. It's great as long as you are aggressive with it IMO.

My impressions as well. It's a really difficult Medigun to use well (I mean, it's easy in small 1v1 fights obviously but in a mid fight where you might have bullet AND explosives coming at you at once, switching accurately is harder), especially in Highlander where all 3 things are in play often, but if you do pull off the right resistances at the right times this thing dominates.

Honestly though, regardless of the extra skill required to use it I can't see it being allowed. In 6s it messes up mid fights - you either run this Medigun or you hope whichever resistance uber he pops your opposite damage dealer focuses the med down or you lose. In Highlander it messes up combo fights really hard (it forces the other team to pretty much mix their damage types together) - granted it was a lobby but my Heavy tanked a Scout, Revolver Spy, Wrangled Level 3 sentry, Sniper, and another Heavy and didn't drop below 200 health.

Useful, but still bad.

Both are completely overpowered in Highlander/pubs tho. It's very difficult to answer the question for 6s only, as most of the things that would be actually useful are banned.

Regardless, Valve seems to only do overpowered/useless stuff lately. I have a hard time thinking of the last time we got an actual sidegrade item.

Only if the VTV casted matches are casted from the spectator slot on the actual server. STV's are always sv_pure 0, and afaik no one really casts from spectator slots anymore to help prevent stream ghosting.

No, it says Games for Windows which is completely different from GFWL. GFW means that it supports a 360 controller 100% of the way and multiple languages pretty much.

F:NV is Steamworks and only runs thru Steam, it does not run through GFWL like FO3 did.

It matters for the same reason the Wrangler (or any of the Engineer bans) does, even though you will almost never see an Engineer off-class, it matters on Gravel Pit where Engineer is in basically every match. The RTR makes the Engineers job neigh useless.

Starts swinging a second after the sap, it's already a level 2 with 0/200. Ridiculous.

Thanks for digging this up, it's a very good video. It takes 1.6 seconds for the RTR to downgrade a sentry 1 level, it takes exactly 1.6 seconds for an Engineer to swing his wrench twice once you count melee weapon firing delay I believe so unless if you basically start pre-firing the 1st wrench hit (completely unreasonable), it's going to get downgraded no matter what. Plus in a real game if you get caught off guard or the Spy does stuff while your team is distracted by people near C, you're realistically looking at probably 2 downgrades(unless if you break the Sapper first and let the Spy shoot you a bunch I suppose), so now defense has a shitty level 1 SG. You basically have to make sure a Spy never ever gets remotely near your Sentry gun, because the instant he does you are going to lose a huge amount of firepower, it seems pretty unreasonable to have to dedicate so much focus to something just because even if you react perfectly it's going to fuck you over anyways.

I feel like allowing the Red Tape Recorder is kinda bad, especially since the Dead Ringer is allowed. While Engineer is not a popular off-class by any means, it is pretty integral to how Gravel Pit is typically played, and the RTR is a buggy overpowered unlock that with minimal skill involved wrecks an Engineer. Even if the Engineer reacts as fast as he possibly can, the RTR will always downlevel a sentry by 1 level, and if it downlevels a Dispenser it takes away all the metal inside of it. All you have to do is use the Dead Ringer to suicide sap buildings and you get easy downlevels on everything.

It is even banned in Highlander because of how broken it is, imo I wouldn't allow it just because it could really mess with GPit potentially. Even if the Engineer does basically everything right he gets punished unless he knows ahead of time where/when the Spy is coming.
