KA:D is an awful metric no matter what's going on. Everyone always spends so much time bitching about how people only watch their K:D instead of objectives, so it should go without saying that K:D is a bad measurement.

I don't really have any better ideas, but my advice would be don't try too hard. It's impossible to ensure that every lobby is balanced, and any attempt to would end up extremely convoluted and restrictive. W/L seems like a decent way to go. It takes longer to get accurate numbers but it's more reliable I think.

MatwojzigzterExcluding maybe a few of the top jumpers, I've never seen anyone able to consistently pull of speedshots.I can consistently pull speedshots off and I'm no great jumper, they take like a week or so of practice to learn to do well.

Speedshots are heavily effected by ping, so when you're switching servers several times a day, it's almost entirely luck. Unless you've had enough time to adapt to the delay, you're probably not going to be consistent enough to make the rollout worth it. Also, it's not a matter of just hitting the speedshot. You've got to hit it perfectly, or you'll get too much horizontal momentum to clear the crates. We're talking like, within a few pixels.

Best case scenario is you'd land by the enemy pill, but that's a pretty crappy place to be since the demo will call you out.

kirbyI don't think anyone actually snipes so they can learn how to deal with high pressure situations.

That's like half my reason for sniping in DM. Sniping in high pressure and sniping in low pressure are completely different. I got left behind when my team backed out is snake mid and I still headshot the enemy medic even with 3 of their players on top of me. It wasn't because I got lucky, its because I've spent hours doing exactly the same thing on DM servers.

Not as bad sounding as you might think. Ran around the map a bit, seems pretty interesting. At the very least it makes for a fast paced/non-stalematey map. You basically have the equivalent of one point to push through, and then all you gotta do is land a player on the pit.

So my comments from what I saw running around the map:

On the + side, engi won't be as effective because there's so much back and forth.
On the -, Sniper will be mandatory on both sides. I think the yard area could use a lot of work, feels very bare and that's an enormous sightline.

I feel like the area between yard can pit is largely useless. Once the defending team loses yard they're going to pull all the way back so they can watch every entrance to the pit. Besides, that area is like well 2nd point complicated.

Last thing is there's a lot of prop usage, and little bits of terrain that would make it extremely annoying for soldiers to shoot or players to navigate, like the edges on the outside of the windows or the bleachers and tables in yard.

I like the idea though, would be really interesting to try playing on.

But you respawn instantly. It does literally nothing to you but prevents you from fighting for an entire second. It costs the other players nothing.

brownymasterSpoken like a true DM sniper. By your logic we should add heavy since heavies need to aim and a lot of people don't know how to fight heavies. Maybe add medics too so they can practice surfing and needling since some people will run into them, gotta practice dodging them needles and walking around where the needles are. Add pyro too, since some people don't know how to time rockets or when to switch to shotgun. And spies, not like backstabs matter since you instantly respawn.

There is value in fighting a good Sniper. If you don't already know that then I don't know how to tell you.

Does it really matter though? The Sniper benefits from it, and if there's benefits to be had then it should be allowed. It doesn't stop you from DMing because of instant respawn, and if only having 3 scouts/soldiers to shoot at ruins your DM experience then I think you're better off doing something else.

Do you want me to tell you how many good snipers there are in TF2? Probably less than 2% of the people who actually play the class. I don't think you have to worry about getting consistently destroyed by a sniper in DM to the point where you'll have to come up with DM strats to deal with him.

You're giving the class too much credit.

And all of that 2% plays comp. So we should ban a class because it's uncommon in real games and then just get shit on by the good ones because we refuse to practice against them?

If you get sniped from across the map, no there isn't anything you could have done to avoid it, just like getting shot in the back by a Scout. But if you're charging down a Sniper and get headshot, you fucked up somewhere, and paid for it as surely as you would have against a Scout or Soldier. Sniping isn't just scope and hope.

FogShrugger may or may not have convinced me to at least consider adding back sniper (with the headshot only plugin) at ETS.

PlayItLoudPeople who snipe in dm wastes everyone's time. Even if it's only headshots only, nobody needs practice fighting a sniper. In a 4v4, a sniper would basically mean you only have 3 people to practice dming against.

It's super annoying getting killed by someone you had no chance of killing because he's across the map from you. Seriously, if you want to snipe, go play in extv and leave fog's alone.

Also, sticky jumper turned stickybomb laucher doesn't have the 4 sticky limit.

It's super annoying to get killed by a Scout from behind but nobody is demanding that Scout be removed from DM. Practicing fighting good snipers is actually a thing. Most people don't know how to do it, not that it's really their fault since most Snipers aren't that good. Soldier's put too much arc in their jumps and think a strafe will save them, and Scouts think that if they just jump when they turn a corner they get a free kill. It's not any different than trying to dodge a Scout's scatter or a Soldier's shotgun, just that the stakes are a bit higher. Except in DM, where you respawn instantly so stupid deaths don't matter.
